Synopsis: When a sunlight-phobic teen (Junio Valverde) moves to a remote mountain town -- coinciding with a series of mass killings -- everyone naturally suspects the strange newcomer. But the forest holds a spine-tingling secret that explains everything. Academy Award-winning production designer Pilar Revuelta (Pan's Labyrinth) applies her artistic eye to this atmospheric Spanish-language horror film that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008.

This is actually getting 3 and 1/2 stars out of 5 from me because this film has a good, original story and really beautiful cinematography. This film is quality but it still falls short of the intelligence of films like The Orphanage. It's more of a Spanish version of some of the recent teen films the Americans have been churning out as of late but this is smarter. I watched this in the original language with sub-titles. If given the choice I never watch dubbed because that usually lowers the chances of my enjoyment with foreign films. There are some very suspenseful and tense moments in this film which is what kept me watching and the writing is more intelligent than the average teen fare. The ending does leave a bit to be desired but it doesn't even come close to stupidity so I think if you enjoy foreign horror, this is worth a watch. Not a juggernaut by any stretch but more than adequate for a Friday or Saturday night movie with some popcorn. The acting is also above average so check it out especially because there aren't to many new horror releases at this moment in time for genre lovers. What have you got to lose?
