Musical Guests

I need help remembering a group on Jay's Tonite Show. They sounded like the Soggy Bottom Boys from the George Clooney movie "O Brother Where Art Thou?". I would say their music sounded like gospel/country. I think there might have been a woman in the band as well. They also may have been from KY or TN? Anyone know? I've already searched the the guest list for 2008 and nothing looked familiar, but they could have appeared in early 2009. It's driving me crazy! Thanks for any help you can give me.

What do ya think about Ryan Seacrest for

I just wanted to see if anybody had any better ideas about The Tonight Show, everyone that I have talked to are switching over to Dave Letterman. So I got to thinking, how about Ryan Seacrest to be the Host, he sits in for Larry King on CNN, and he does a great job. Plus he does idol, (that will draw that younger crowd) I am 40 and I like Ryan, I think he is very talented at speaking with people, classy, intelligent, very skilled @ improv. Plus he is pretty good looking.

So is this a bad idea or a good idea?

I just don't see Conan making it.

Jay's last shows - guests/events/comments

I remember Carson had some great shows the last days of his tenure on The Tonight Show. I have yet to hear NBC hype "see Jay's last days" - or "so & so will be on". He has certainly had some good guests scheduled this past week and this week, but not really out of the ordinary. Any word / rumor on guests for Jay's last week? A retrospective with clips (like Johnny's anniversary shows and his last episode)? Bette Midler? (kidding). I dunno, some of Jay's contemporaries from stand up (Seinfeld, perhaps).
There has been no hype by NBC for Jay's final episodes. Just lots of commercials to watch Conan on June 1 (I'll watch on the 1st and maybe the 2nd but not so sure I'll watch the 3rd). Why have there been no commercials saying "Jay has just 10 shows left - don't miss a minute". Couldnt they get better ratings / more viewers for the Tonight Show if they advertized "Catch Jay's last shows" during some of the NBC season finales that happened last week. Then again, maybe they did - I have cut back my NBC watching to Life (cancelled), Chuck (likely cancelled), and Law & Orders if my wife has turned them on.
When Carson left, there was lots of hype for Carson (for good reason). Conan is getting hype as the incoming host now but I can't recall as much hype for Jay as the incoming host while Carson was still host.
What do you think? - they are not hyping Jay now or building up his send off to keep his numbers low now so that Conan's numbers look good in comparison and they can sell sponsors and superiors on the concept that Conan was the right choice and the guy for the future?
Maybe I am reading too much into it. They are just poor marketeers? But they have invested in Jay for Fall 2009 10pm - wouldnt sending Jay out with a bang - leave 'em wanting more - be a good way get that show off to a good start?

Jay's new show

Now I enjoy Leno's show don't get me wrong but it's his time to leave. Why does he have to interfere with the regular weekly programing just to stay on tv? I enjoy the normal lineup from 8 to 11. what is going to happen to those shows? Are they all going to be shortened to a half an hour cause Leno likes to watch himself bash other people? His comedy is becoming tired, he does the same jokes over and over and it seems he's afraid to try anything different or out of the norm. I enjoy Conan also so I'm willing to give him a chance but Leno has got to go completely. I noticed most of the Conan bashers are old, TRY him on for size for a month see how he tastes, I know this is a hard concept to grasp for the elderly but it won't hurt you and it's not like Conan is beating Leno with a stick for his show. I don't mean to insult but old people are well known for not trying new things. There are those of us younger people who like decent television and don't like things like MTV and that stupidity and we like things to be updated every now and again and Conan is that update this time.

Jay, you went over the edge tonight. Usually you have a softball edge to you're monologues, but that plane flying over my home and lower Manhattan scared us all to death.
