Hi, I am a very loyal viewer of Last Comic Standing and I was so disappointed to find out that the show has not been renewed for a 7th season. I know a lot of other people who really enjoyed the show and I thought maybe if we all voiced our opinions, NBC would consider bringing the show back.

Let NBC know if you want the show renewed like I am. I'm hoping if they hear enough support for it, they'll bring it back. Join me!

Mary S. would like Last Comic Standing renewed for 7th season.

Funny Stand-Up Video Clips

Since this season of LCS is over, I thought I'd add in some stand-up video clips every once in a while.

Please add in stand-up clips that you think most of us would enjoy.

Ideally, the clips shouldn't be of comedians that are well known (at least in the US) (yet), and preferably the clips should be pretty short (just a few jokes).

Comic Erin Jackson will be on Ellen DeGeneres in September!

This is according to Erin's MySpace blog:

http://www.myspace.com/erinjacksoncomedy

See? She didn't need to "win" some rigged competition. A pro like Ellen DeGeneres knows what's good. For the record, Erin Jackson is one of the comics I feel should have made the top 12 in place of Iliza.

Ideally I would've liked to have seen Eddie Pepitone, Shazia Mirza, and Erin Jackson take the places of Iliza Shlesinger, Ron G, and Jim Tavare.

I said that the night they chose the top 12.

Erin didn't know the exact day she'd be on.... but watch for Erin on Ellen in September!

Rodney Carrington

Rodney Carrington is definitely my favorite comedian of all time. I've been following his material for a while now and he is in a new movie that just came out. Anyone seen Beer for my Horses? It just came out on DVD and I can't get enough of it. Let me know what you think of it or if you plan on getting it. Hope to talk to you all soon!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azpcO0bunOw

Carrie
UMGD

A Response to Those Who Think the Outcome was Rigged

For those of you frustrated with Iliza's win, I'd like to say a few things. First I'd like to say that I understand your frustration. However, I do not believe that her win was part of a conspiracy. I think she legitmately won for a few reasons.

First, she got more exposure/airtime than any other comic in the running due to her twice being in the head to head. People became familiar with her, and people tend to like what they know.

Second, people may have been more likely to vote for her because they thought she was vulnerable to elimination; someone may think, "Hey, I like both Iliza and [Insert Comic's Name Here], but [Insert Comic's Name Here] is sure to get a lot of votes, so I'll reserve my votes for Iliza.

Lastly, her gender probably did play some role in the vote. Now, I don't necessarily believe that women vote for women and men vote for men, but people do usually find others funny when they can identify with what they are saying, and gender can sometimes play a part in this. I can't say for sure, but there is a fair chance that a significant portion of females identified with Iliza and voted for her; if the guys tended to identify with/vote for guy comics, then due to the larger selection of male comics from which to choose, the male vote would be spread among them.

As for my own opinion, I thought Iliza was mostly funny; she wasn't my favorite, but I by no means hated her. Perhaps as a female I did identify with her comedy more than a guy might (though I do think that some of the best comedy appeals to many and not just a category of people). My personal favorite was Jeff Dye, and this wasn't just due to his looks (Marcus is probably closer to my type – and I also thought he was funny and deserved to be at top). I liked Jeff because he was a special kind of funny and because I especially identified with him. I am also a 25 year old from Seattle. There's a really good chance that I've met Applesauce Pete.

So, sorry for the long post, but I just had to say that while Iliza may not have been my top choice, I can understand and appreciate her victory. She had to go against the odds to get to the end (à la Rudy – and who doesn't love that movie?), and I always have a little place in my heart for the underdog. And if anyone else has already covered this in a comprehensive way, my apologies for duplication; I don't have time to look through all of the posts to see if I've been preempted, sorry.

-Jessica

P.S. If you like Jeff Dye, I recommend checking out his videos on YouTube; some of them aren't brilliant, but a few I found hilarious.
