Oh my! What a year to come to Comic Con for your first time! I know quite a few Comic Con virgins so you are in good company. Comic Con is a wondrous event, but it can be overwhelming. Before you even start, the first thing you want to do is make a schedule of what you want to see and do. The programming guide comes out on the Comic Con website about a week and a half before the convention so there is some time to plan it out. This is your tentative schedule. Be aware that you may not attend all of the things you thought you would because one thing Comic Con presents are distractions. There is just SO much.

In addition to programming, check out the exhibitors page for people who you might want to see. When you register, you'll get a convention book that will list the sites of the exhibitors. This listing is alphabetized so you'll have no problem finding the companies you want.

If you are going to Preview Night, it's recommended that you get there an hour or more prior. Preview Night gets very well attended like all the other nights and if you want to get a good look and a crack at the freebies and exclusives that Comic Con has to offer, you'll want to get there early.

Now, lets see about navigating San Diego. The Comic Con bus that visits the neighboring hotels is very nice, but sometimes there are delays--especially on Wednesday. Look for other means of transportation. There's a wonderful trolley that runs in San Diego and there is even a Special events trolley that caters to Comic Con. Expect to walk a great deal, too. Not just at Con, but everywhere. Have good shoes. Keep your cellphone charged. And keep extra batteries with you for your camera.

If you want to meet friends at Comic Con, make sure that you have a specific meeting place in mind, such as by a particular door (they are labeled by letters) in the lobby. It's pretty difficult to find anybody on the convention floor, but it isn't impossible. Also meeting times with said people to be semi-lax. As I said before, there are many distractions.

There's a particular way to get through the throng of people, too. I keep my head semi-down and walk through. I look for spaces to slip in and out. People traffic on the convention floor is hectic and you have to move with the flow. Also, while you're moving, be on the look out for specific things. Like, me, for instance, I randomly found James Kyson Lee at a booth last year, signing autographs and taking photographs with people. It was posted at the booth that he was going to be there, but it wasn't in the program guide. Because I had my eyes peeled for Heroes actors and things related to the show, I saw him. That's the thing: at Comic Con, you should have some idea what you are looking for. You have to be always thinking and willing to change your schedule at a moment's notice. There are opportunities to be found here, new people to meet, new friends to make.

Outside of navigation, it's a good idea that you have water and some foodstuffs with you. Little things to get you through the day. The days are long, your feet and body will hurt, but if you play your cards right, you'll have some fantastic experiences. There's seriously no place like Comic Con. Even if you have been to conventions before, Comic Con is something else and has a whole different beat of its own.

Good luck to you and enjoy Comic Con!
