I did a search for OFF TOPIC movies thread and movie talk is spread out so i wanted to create this thread. I know we did 'desert island movies' what movies we would take to watch for the rest of our lives. But I wanted to get a nice healthy discussion(a nice debate) on past/present/future movies. And I'll ask once for no name calling, no whining and no acting childish. Everyone has an opinion whether you agree or disagree.

I live for movies via reading IMDB-internet movie data base, Movies.com and iFilm-shorts, independent movies, PRE-YOUTUBE phenom . I am also a big small documentary fan. HBO & Cinemax OnDemmand channels show some very thought provoking documentaries.

Tonight I am posting a few new UPCOMING theater releases that look interesting, to me at least. I am not a Brad Pitt fanatic but 2 of his movies I will be listing, they look good to me.
========================================
THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD FACTSA cowboy named Robert Ford (Casey Affleck) joins the gang of outlaw Jesse James (Brad Pitt), only to become resentful of James' fame and plot his death. Cast Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Sam Rockwell, Sam Shepard, Mary-Louise ParkerTRAILER

========================================
BABEL
Two Morrocan boys set out to look after their family's herd of goats, but when one of them tests his stolen rifle, the bullet finds an unintended target. In an instant, the lives of four separate groups of strangers on three different continents collide. Caught up in the rising tide of an accident that escalates beyond anyone's control are a vacationing American couple (Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett), a rebellious deaf Japanese teenager and her father, and a Mexican nanny who, without permission, takes two American children across the border. Cast Cate Blanchett, Brad Pitt, Gael Garcia Bernal, Mahima Chaudhry, Shilpa Shetty
TRAILER

========================================
CHILDREN OF MEN
Based on a P.D. James science-fiction novel, Children of Men is set in a futuristic dsytopia where humankind is on the brink of extinction and a sole pregnant woman holds the key to survival. A disillusioned bureacrat (Clive Owen) and a woman from his past (Julianne Moore) are tasked with shepherding the pregnant woman to a secret organization that's been researching how to restore fertility to the world's population.Cast Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, Chjwetel Ejiofor, Peter Mullan. TRAILER

The CHILDREN OF MEN is the most interesting of the 3 to me. I have read the book, and the trailer lives up to the drama of the book.

well of course I must bring up monty python and the quest for the holy grail.

it's a timeless classic about bunnies and kings. when the bunnies are deadly and the kings run around horse style while their servants bang coconuts.

the black knight scene is hilarious. his arms and feet keep getting chopped off and he refuses to yield. "You've got no arms left!!!" "It's just a flesh wound".

and also the greatest question ever posed. "ARE YOU TELLING ME COCONUTS MIGRATE?"

then the 3 questions that you must answer to cross the bridge, or die. "What is your name?" "What is your Quest?" "What is your favorite color?"

and finally, the classic french taunter "YOUR MOTHER WAS A HAMPSTER!! AND YOUR FATHER SMELT, OF ELDERBERRY!!!!!!" among others.

I love going to movies myself, and recently joined a "movie club" that I found listed on craigslist. The organizer sends out an e-mail every 2-3 weeks, listing a new release. We all meet at the designated showing, watch the movie, then go out afterwards for dinner or dessert to discuss the film. It's mostly single people (which is a nice way to meet other singles) but there are some married people that come as well.

Some of my favorite older movies, that I can pop in the DVD player anytime, are DIE HARD, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, and CORINA, CORINA. I also love anything by John Cusack, especially from his younger days (like SURE THING and BETTER OFF DEAD).

One of my all-time favorites is Academy Award winning THE ENGLISH PATIENT. The first time I saw it at the theater it just hit me, and I ended up seeing it about 7 times at the movies. I have several copies on DVD but surprisingly haven't watched it in several years. I guess I'm waiting for a time when I need a good cry.

A good movie-related website is www.movie-mistakes.com. It's fun to look up your favorite movies and check the listing of bloopers, continuity errors, etc. I'm always finding continuity errors in movies (it's a hobby!) so I like posting there and reading others.

Possibly one of the funniest scenes in any movie I have ever seen. I adore this movie, and this scene in particular. When he's jumping around on nothing but a stump and screaming out insults I am lmao every time!

Corrina, Corrina is one of my all time favorite movies. I absolutely love it. I'm not a huge all-around fan of Whoopi Goldberg, but she is perfect in this film.

I will do a teenage girl outburst: OMGGGGGGGGGGG I love Ralph Fiennes! I would eat his leftovers if they were available, really I would! Ralph Fiennes voice could lull me into... oh um never mind! HOW could you not love this face!

Movie-mistakes.com I have that bookmarked too. I love reading the mistakes and then i'm like wait look 'this is coming up' and ruin it for someone who hasnt seen it before!

I'd love to hear more about the craig's list lead. Does it give listings for different cities/states, or is it just NYC based?

Short List of my DVD 'libary' (will think of more that SHOULD be in my libary):

Better Off Dead, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club
Good Will Hunting & Hoosiers
Office Space, Autstin Powers Trilogy
Memento & American Beauty
Gladiator & Brotherhood of the Wolf
Garden State & Wedding Crashers
Napoleon Dynamite, Old School, Anchorman
Se7en, The Usual Suspects, Snatch
Resevoir Dogs, Pulp Fictions, Kill Bill Vols I & II
Shakespeare in Love, Wuthering Heights (Ralph Fiennes) & Pride & Prejudice

Just saw The Departed w/Nicholson, DeCaprio, Damon, Wahlberg, Baldwin, Sheen. Great plot, great soundrack (Dropkick Murphys just hit my iPod)...but a bit long.

What is it about Ralph Fiennes that just makes you want to throw yourself at him? *sigh* I can't count how many times I watched Quiz Show just to stare at that lovely face for a couple hours. Colin Firth is still at the top of my list, but Ralph isn't very far behind.

I've seen P&P literally about 50 times. It's one of the few chick flicks I love. I also loved "Earnest." My husband likes them both as well. I got very lucky. rolleyes.gif

I've been fortunate to worked on 13 movies and TV shows so I'm a huge movie fanatic myself. I actually worked with "Roy" on the Replacements... he was really thin in that movie.

My favorites: Color Purple.. The Matrix.. LA Confidental.. Usual Suspects.. Lord of The Rings.. The Fugitive.. Empire Strikes Back.. Pirates of the Carribean.. Bourne Identity.. Donnie Brasco.. The Last Seduction.. Farenheit 9/11.

Saw Hollywood land and fell asleep in it.

Good movies are really lacking to me right now. I haven't bought a new dvd in ages because just about everything is just bad. But new releases I want to check out is possibly Deliver us from evil a documentary about pedophile priests... Dreamgirls.. Um.. the next Xmen.. Can't think of anything else.

Thanks Doll! It's not hard to do actually... I live in DC and they film a lot of stuff here. David/Roy has the bluest eyes in person.. tv doesn't do them justice. All the women were going nuts over him laugh.gif
