Rowe on the OT: VDO's film career thread said she never heard of Ten Thousand Villages, so I thought I would describe them a little more. It is a program run under the MCC(Mennonite Central Committee). They use artisans from around the globe. These people receive a fair trade price for their goods, safe working conditions, and other programs designed to build up there communities. If they inquire about Christianity they will share it with them, but it is not a requirment to recieve help and purchasing for their goods. Their stores(there are several of them) they have goods from every country. Clothing, jewerly, pottery, household items, and persian rugs to say the least.

MCC helps after natural(and man made diseasters) to rebuild the community, and help with supplies that are needed.

The MCC in Canada has done much work to build a healthy bond and seek resolution with Native Nations, as well as the amazing charity and trade work. They also offer counselling for crime victims, and training for people who work with victims. They are a very dedicated group of people who believe in positive actions helping humanity. I was exposed to them when I went to university with a New Order girl who became a great friend of mine.

That's one thing that most people don't know about the plain community, is they will not fight in wars, but they will go all around the world to rebulid what was destroyed.

I'm sure that many of you have seen this Jacquie Lawson card, but I thought it would be worth bringing out again for this Memorial Day in the USA. My wish is "Bring Them Home" ; others may disagree, but whatever our politics, we all stand in our hearts with those who serve, and remember sadly and lovingly the honoured dead.

Just for fun...

I got this from a pal of mine, who seems to have more than his share of odd computer problems. He's always wondered, had the feeling that his computer had a life of its own, doing things while he slept. He found the link below that explains, for him anyway, what happens to his box. laugh.gif

I watched it three times. I see the Deep Truth embedded in the light-hearted animation, but actually, I just liked it for the bang-clank-whizz-crash-zing-ping-chomp. My kinda drama. Link now sent to all far reaches of Australia, where they preesheeyate cinema verite

I'm trying to get some home improvement estimates for a roof, gutters, windows... So I get advice from family and friends. Names and phone numbers of people to call to get an idea of how much I can expect to try for with a loan or line of credit.

I'm talking to the answering machine of the first guy on the list and get to the point where I need to leave a contact number for daytime and evenings.

Brain fart! Can't remember my telephone number. wacko.gif Has that ever happened to you?! I never call myself. And when I do I'm never home to answer the phone! laugh.gif What a day I'm having!

I should be laughing out loud at your story. Instead, I'm nodding gravely. I can never remember my mobile number - a number which has no rhythm, or logical order, or any mnemonic hook on which to hang it. Many's the time I have come to that part of the conversation or message when it's time to recite it. Nothing in brain. The most pathetic thing about the situation is that I haven't learned a thing from past embarrassment. Never have it written down and ready or a business card to hand before I make a call. Ever. Sometimes in panic I leave other people's numbers. Talk about pointless.

I hear you loud and clear. Given a choice of two cell phone numbers, I don't think I could honestly pick mine from the pair. I do have it written down in my checkbook. But, how often do I have my checkbook with me with a debit card at my disposal?!

I can understand...just three months ago i spent twenty minutes writing invitations for my daughter's birthday party to 20+ of her classmates, which included including my cell number. You'd think after 20+ invites, that i'd actually remember my cell phone number wouldn't you?....nope, not a chance. My home number not a problem, cell phone, not a chance.

Yup, yup. Another head nodding in sad recognition.

I once interviewed with a job search firm. Spent 20 minutes telling the interviewer about my professional attributes, such as my organizational skills, my eye for detail and my creative problem solving abilities. Then she asked for my cell phone number. blink.gif She seemed understanding enough when I admitted I didn't remember it. Less understanding when I spent a good 3 minutes pressing buttons on the phone trying to come up with that little screen that actually shows your cell phone number. (Apparently enough of us don't remember our cell numbers that the manufacturers include this dandy feature. Why, then, do they hide it like an easter egg in a video game?).

The best moment came when she suggested I do the same thing her 80-year-old mother does with her cell phone ... put a label with the number right on the phone case. laugh.gif

Been there, done that, lost the phone. Still haven't managed to put a label on the new one. huh.gif

I can't tell you how much better I'm feeling knowing that I'm not the only one with senior cell/telephone moments. smile.gif

God gave me many gifts and height and short term memory wasn't one of them!!! I'm only 5'4 which makes many things in this life a wee bit more challenging!!! LOL!!

I have a horrible short term memory in particular. I can be leaving work, and say to myself, remember to pick up a paper. In less than the two minutes it takes to go to the gas station, I forgot. If I'm talking and someone interjects something, I'll forget what I was even talking about! However when it comes to obscure facts and tid bits of info, that no one really cares about, that I remember!! Little facts I read in a book, magazine, see on TV whatever, that I can almost quote word for word. Memorizign scripts, poems, whatever all is good. This info is nothing I can use at work, or really help anyone, just enough to keep me in the dork community short bus!!

I'm exactly like that too! I have a memory like a sieve! and my husband swears its since i've had my kids. It's gotten to the point that i have to make a list of what i have to do each day or i will forget something. Usually its because i have a lot of other stuff on my mind. blush.gif

My poor sister-in-law's job allowed her to be a work-at-home mom through both kids. She can sing every Dora the Explorer song, knows all the kiddie programming by sound and theme song and has two very well behaved, well adjusted kids. And she can count to 20 in Spanish, French and every other conceivable language with the kids. She cannot concentrate on anything for longer than the two minutes because that's how long each of these wonderful, educationally stimulating shows runs any one topic for. She's regressed to that point.

She's starving for adult contact. Won't you please help her?! laugh.gif

Boy, can I relate to this subject!! lol I'll get up and go to another room and then ask myself, "Now why did I come in here??????" I also have several pieces of small note paper that I prepare the night before of things I need to do the next day. Cause if I don't see it in black and white, it doesn't get done!!!! I have so many pieces of paper with info on them, it is unreal. I got sick of making out lists every night so I laminated my paper so I can use it every day. I definitely have CRS syndrome!! sad.gif lol

Now the going into a room and forgetting what i came in for i inherited from my mom, because she is the same. I do all the note writing stuff too, especially if we need groceries because i will not remember on my own. Usually i go into a room for something, get distracted by something else and forget what i went in for. It's so frustrating LOL!!

Oh the knowing the theme tunes to every kid's tv show happened to me too, especially with Dora, The Wiggles and others...right now my six year old is addicted to Spongebob Squarepants and it is doing my head in....heeeelppp!!!! blink.gif
