Ruby, Thank you for sharing your story with me about losing your German Shepard. My husband also works late, and in the evenings when my kids are out being kids & having fun with their friends, Sticker & I would hang out together. I think I will miss him more than anyone will. whyaskwhy, Those websites are great! When I get Sticker's ashes back, I will order one of the little frame holders. I have to see how big the ash container is first. Thank you so much for hooking me up. I had no idea such items existed. I'm very glad they were helpful, DonnaLucy. Take care. -------------------- "Ooohh...look, BING. Reality!" |

Stuff to do on a Saturday:
Deadhead flowers. There is just nothing more satisfying than that crispy noise when a dry daisy top is popped off the stem. I don't so much feel like Morticia Addams cutting the tops off her rose stems leaving a love bouquet of sticks, as I do a hair stylist snipping off fly away deadends. I have got to take some pictures of my lilies. Every year I think to do it after it's too late and most of them are beyond their prettiest. The Asiatics took a beating with the thunderstorms that rolled through Wednesday and Thursday evenings dropping an inch and a half of rain. They're lying down, and I know they'll not be getting back up, but the color is still gorgeous. Maybe I'll post the pictures for people interested in seeing them. Time to put down the summer fertilizer for the lawn and hit the bald spots with grass seed. It should be cooler this week with rain in the second half, so that bodes well for newly seeded bluegrass. Repot my night blooming cereus. I actually had a blossom last summer and missed it because it was too tightly packed in among the stems. By best season so far was two years ago when I had five separate blooms at one time. The flower bud grows quickly and then opens just after sunset, closing by sunrise the next morning, withering and dying. The scent is simply the sweetest you can imagine and the flower is about six inches across. It's a desert succulent that does really well when it's potbound, but this mama has just about pushed all of the available soil out of its pot. The picture below is what mine looks like when blooming. I can post the images from year before last at some point. They were selling tiny pieces of cereus at the Philadelphia flower show for ten bucks a pop. If anyone with a hankering for a piece would like to have a cutting, they grow really easily, but patience until the bloom is important. It can take as long as four years before the plant is ready to flower. If you're interested, PM me.

FYI, I just read on Veiwer's Buzz by Strode Wallace on L&O board has said The Associated Press reported on June 4, that Sam Watterson is in contract discussion to replace Fred Thompson as the Manhattan District Attorney for the 07-08 season of L&O.

You have been a loyal & true friend to the United States. Thanks! And BTW, your citizens are wonderful people (especially Mari!) I remember as a young girl reading a book based on a true story called "Mrs Mike." It decribed her marriage to a Royal Canadian Mountie in the early 1900's. It's beautifully descriptive about the Canadian provinces & it's people. I would love to locate it again for my daughter to read. |

Some very sad, personal news. Today I had to put down my 12 year old grey tabby. His name was Sticker. He was doing fine for his age, but suddenly he couldn't walk, eat , or drink. He was practically lifeless. We rushed him to the vet, who explained he was having heart failure. There wasn't anything they could do, so my three children and I all put our hands on him as the vet gently euthanized him with an injection. Right now we're all in a state of shock. My kids did not want to bury him, so we are having him cremated & his ashes brought home. Not sure what we will do with them, but it will be a family decision. My kids were 8, 7 & 5 years old when we got Sticker as a tiny kitten. They don't remember life without him, so its rough. Has anyone ever had to put down a beloved pet? How long does the sadness last? I can't believe how upset I am, I can't stop crying. DonnaLucy, I'm just seeing this post (I missed it before despite the fact that I posted earlier today on Canada Day). I don't have any pets, so I have no answers to offer you, but you have my condolences. I extend my sympathy to you and your family. |
