naydi, you are my heroine...or is that heroin?

vurt - my sympathies. I got up two hours early this morning knowing I would also have to dig - and then drive - through all that ice and snow. This morning both my car doors and door locks were frozen shut. Picture me "running" across the icy concrete outside my apartment, down the icy iron steps, and through the icy and snowy parking lot with a double handful of wet, steaming towel, hoping it will still be steaming when I arrive so I can defrost at least one door when I get to the car so it'll be worth it to have my gloves already be wet when I start scraping snow off the windshield. Arrgh. I did finally get the passenger-side door open, got the car running, and then managed not to wreck on the drive to work, despite the fact that I had no feeling left in my wet and frozen fingertips.

b - hrmmph. S'what you get for having an otherwise beautiful day at the beach while all us Yanks are freezing. (still love you, though. sorry about the cash sad.gif ).

I am sooo not understanding how to cleanly pick up and insert selected quotes from each post, so I'm responding on an ad hoc, ad hominem, ad nauseum basis here.

NA - The answer to your question: I'm stupid (you can see which question that answers, and yes, it is apposite to red light scenario). Thought that I would save $20 in ATM/Visa fees. Gee, that worked out well, dinnit?

Vurt - Money in widncheater pocket. Just as good as Fort Knox. Not. You are soooo right about relative values, though. I'm nearly over the money. Still, getting Naydi's shopping list at the ready. Lemme see, got the goats, got the chicken blood, effigy half-finished. Just need toad. Looking, looking, looking... ah, here comes an ex-boyfriend.

Cvl: HOW does a car freeze shut? I have never heard of such a thing! And, hey, no running on iced stairs. Not a good plan. Otherwise you may be joining the Red-Light-Running-Careless-with-Cash Club as the Disney-on-Ice-Victim.

Rowe: You're right. In fact,I may be nearly over the cash, but I'm still not over the French press and the coffee made in a colander. Jeez. You could have cleaned windshields with it, or defrosted Cvl's car.

For everyone's else's Day or Year of Suckiness, you really have not just my sympathy, but my empathy. Naydi, just think "pin", and let the Carusoes of the world recede. Vurt, you will have a much improved 2007, I know this for a fact.

You know - wallowing in dead, dying and suicidal Carusoes, I completely missed vurt's winter woes. My area just dodged a bullet when the ice storm that hit northern NE veered up and away from us. Today's, actually, our first "real" winter day; with it being below 20 degrees. Heard on the news that there's people in NH without power from the ice storm and probably will be for the next day or so. Just in time for the freeze. *oof!!*

Best Christmas present I have EVER received in life: An automatic starter. Can take it from one car to the next, too. Should be standard equipment for anyone in a winter-weather state (there's a word for that... h'll if I know it). Little trick someone told me; if it doesn't catch the signal at a certain distance, try it with the clicker under your chin. Don't know how, not sure I want to, but somehow the signal gets amplified. It'll probably kill me some day in some way shape or form. But, ooooo, but that's toasty.....

--------
hmmm - ya know who'd make one H'LL of an elf.....

FRED CLAUS: Santa's naughty brother (Vince Vaughn) is bailed out of jail by St. Nick (Paul Giamatti) and forced to work off his debt making toys at the North Pole.

Yeah, yeah... the Vaughn thing is so annoyingly dead, tired, old and decrepite; but who couldn't use a moment of picturing our friend as an elf? With a hat and the 'Cell' hair? Maybe still being able to work in a butt? C'mooooon!!!

Having a hard time getting up posts without getting caught...

(In the interest of limiting my quoting to 2 posts in row cuz 3 just looks d'mn ugly:) I bow to you, b, though I always thought that Cvl would have made a h'll of a go at that Ice Capades thing if she'd just stuck with it... Especially considering all that Rockette and Lord of the Dance experience. What can I say. It's too bad the Army just has no rep for discpline, man. Went and made her soft....

Closest I've come to having my life-worn demands for one fulfilled. Think Cvl's still working on getting a trailer rig hooked up for a cross-country animal drive, though... Hope it's pank

So how's everyone doing today?

Naydi
- Have you gotten your book yet?

bwalter
- Did you win the lotto and buy yourself a primo French coffee press yet?

Cvl
- Have you defrosted yet?

As for me, I'm still in a bit of pain from the ice/snow dig, but otherwise ok physically. Psychologically, that's a different story. wacko.gif
Well, I hope you all are well. bwalter, I wish I was out there right now. It'd be so nice to soak in the sun and warmth right now and let all the stress and pain melt off me. Oooh, I bet that sounds nice to everyone on this side of the earth to the north right now. laugh.gif

Actually your comment, now pointing to my post, kinda works there too. I knew you meant it to Keiko, but I found it funny seeing it pointing as a reply to my post. laugh.gif We could make it work.

Nah, I won't defrost fully until Fourth of July - I usually regain feeling in my feet by then. Sorry to hear you're still feelin' poorly. Maybe next time I can send one of my nephews uptown to dig you out! smile.gif

Cvl: HOW does a car freeze shut? I have never heard of such a thing! And, hey, no running on iced stairs. Not a good plan. Otherwise you may be joining the Red-Light-Running-Careless-with-Cash Club as the Disney-on-Ice-Victim.

It's Chicago in January - if you blink too long your eyelids freeze shut. Actually, the cold damp Lake Michigan air blows across the land all night (hence the ubiquitous ice). Since the vehicle is made of real, honest-to-God Detroit metal (a '94 Chevy), it tends to freeze in cold damp weather. So by morning (and it is definitely still morning when I leave for work) there is a crust of ice sealing the doors shut, and the exterior locking mechanism is frozen so tight the key won't go in all the way (or if it does, it won't turn), and if it gets cold enough, the interior mechanism (inside the door panel) even freezes. Not to mention all the glass that needs to be scraped...and the grill de-iced...and the heat won't kick in for at least five miles. Anyway, you get the picture. You have to thaw large areas of the truck before you can drive it...then you still have to deal with the ice on the roads.
Note to naydi - I am saving up for an auto-start as we speak!

Re the coffee - try brewing it "Army style". Boil a pot of water. Dump in ground coffee and an egg. Boil a little while longer, and use a ladle to dip out a cup of coffee off the top (the egg will pull most of the grounds together at the bottom of the pot).

Ooohhhh girl, you best be runnin'. And you're d@mn lucky I busted my hip at the Ice Capades auditions. Otherwise I'd be skidding down the stairs right now, stealing a rig, and driving to MA with full lights and sirens. On the other hand, it would be nice to check out the new floor drains in your BR....mmmm...what are you doing this weekend? (I mean, after I thump your head)

*Sorry! Can't hear ya!!*(WHAT THE **** HAPPENED TO THE LITTLE HIDEY GUY???!! mad.gif )

Actually, I'm happy to report that I will be spending this weekend curled up on the couch in the warm glow of Fundementals in Nursing (yep-got refresh the text book procedures for all the crap you just DO at this point) and my new Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN with accompanying disc of 3,000 test questions - Thas'right, vurt - got my sh't!!! cool.gif Got an email from my girl Tara; the class queen of tension. It's said the necessary anal focus of colitis just does that to a person. I can definitely see how that would happen - her constant tension's not exactly her fault. AAAAANYwho - she took her test today and it cut off at 75 questions; the bare minimum number. She says she cried because she's afraid that she failed given the number of med questions she got on drugs we never, EVER covered. She's asking if I have the phone number that they gave us in the review through which you can pay $8 to get your results by phone within 3 hours rather than waiting the 2-3wks for the official mailing, or 2-3days to check online. Don't have the number on me, here - do have it at home. Given that I was just challenged to GO HOME and REGISTER for my test RIGHT WHEN I GOT IN yesterday (what does an intellectually confident person do when they, actually, do encounter a fear of failing? Nothing, apparently), I'm not particularly interested in 'being there' for her in hashing the whole thing out right about now. Nice step in the right direction for me, I think.... I will, however, need to respond when I get home because you can't leave someone wallowing in feeling that awful by themselves for so long. ('least i can't) So, basically, THIS WEEKEND, I will be eyeball deep in NCLEX studying. <---yeah, that was my original point, right? humph....

NEXT weekend, however, I'll be having company starting Friday night courtesy of the chicken, toad, and goat smeared effigy. You're welcome to stop by for maybe.....*tssssss*...an hour, but That's All You Get!!!! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Don't ever say I never gave you anything...

(okaaaaaay, maybe 2 hours if my pony is pink...)

What's up with the board "enhancements?" Did anyone hear they were doing this? (Grumble, you'd think a stankin' moderator would hear somtin' 'bout it)

Don't dislike the changes, yet (the ones I've figured out, that is) but would have liked to know. All my PMs were wiped out.

If anyone PM'd me since dinner yesterday, I ain'ta got 'em.

Naydi, Cvl and a pony. Hmmm.I sense this pony is going to need therapy. Unless it's a gel-maned, chain-encrusted punk-gothic pony with an encyclopedic knowledge of pharmacopia and a fondness for pranks involving human road kill.

Tried adding him as my picture instead thinking it would replace the icon next to my name. That was a nice fake out... well played... dry.gif

Wow, a bunch of changes. That's funny, I was gonna ask you about this just as you posted this comment. As far as I can see, they are good changes. Yeah, I definitely think that's not so cool that they didn't give notice to anyone, especially Mods about this. Maybe you can contact them to ask for some info on the changes, or give them a piece of your mind for not giving you notice. laugh.gif

Oooh, how about we all name every change we have noticed so far, at least until, or if they put out some kind of notice of changes they've made.
  • I noticed that our PM space has gotten alot larger. Mine was at about 95% full yesterday and now it's only at 2%, and I don't see any deleted messages, so yeah, I think they have given us more space for PMs.
  • I also noticed changes right here where I'm typing my post. There are extras, but I haven't looked through enough to name them yet.
  • Ok, I just noticed that when you press the Edit button now, it just takes you straight to a Full Edit, instead of giving you the choice as before.
  • I also noticed they no longer show if someone is logged on or not by looking at one of their posts. EDIT: Actually they still do show if you're online only now it's with a lil head on top on your name. If it's in color, you're on, if it's black and white, you're off...
  • Also, when you click on your name, or anyone's name on any post, you get the options for users posts, user topics and such there now.
  • Found one not so good change - when I'm on this show's board, and go to the log in screen then log in, it takes me to the all show blogs board, instead of back to this CI board as it always has before.
  • Just noticed that at the bottom of the page you're on, it now tells you how many users are on.
  • Lots of changes on user's profile view, the page you go to when you click on someone's name, or your own.
Anyone that can name more changes or elaborate on them, please do. I'd just hate to miss some cool change for a couple months until I notice it by accident. laugh.gif
Thanks,

I've been adding changes I noticed to my post from this afternoon, but I edit and add so the time doesn't change, and it doesn't bring it up to the top. Soooo, laugh.gif I'm just bumping up so that others could see it and maybe add some too.
