Sorry if we confused you, vurt. A lot of critics and people who don't watch CI say that they're turned off by Goren's charcater because he's so odd or such a know-it-all, or...well, a lot of the endearing traits that we like to call "quirky". Since so many of us find him attractive for a variety of reasons, while so many other (normal?) people thinks he's just weird, I was proposing a thread where we discuss the reasons we think Goren is so great. In other words, what draws us to the character, and (for us ladies) more specifically to Goren as a man. I personally think VDO has found the right balance of traits that make Goren a nearly perfect man, and that's why I like him. I would be more than happy to expound on this in great detail, if anybody else wants to join in and make a thread of it. Oh - I didn't even notice that vurt got hurt.. (<-- Hey!) I'll have to go back and see the comment placement, but for now: No, no babe - It's aaalll jokes with a just a little side comment thrown in about how critics and casual viewers find Goren to be an annoying, pompous freak - not that you feel that way. Didn't mean to cause any alarm or ill-feelings... EDIT: The hurt reply placement being where and to the extent that I thought it might be, I'll leave this comment here, as is, keeping the two "no harm, no foul" explanations back to back... -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

...............If I win (whatever the bet is, and I've long since forgotten), VDO has to kiss Goren. Is this not an elegant wager? HEEEEY - Who told you about my twins thing????????????? Huh? You what...? Uh.... Nevermind! -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Check out "Crash". Not the recent Oscar contender, but the one from 1996 with James Spader, Holly Hunter, Elias Koteas, Debra Unger, and Rosanna Arquette. We accidently rented it in the barracks one night, and spent the whole movie going "WTF? Whoever picked this one is never allowed to go the vidoe store again!" Sick and twisted little fim about re-enacting famous fatal car crashes and deriving sexual pleasure from the viewing/participation. I think it's rated NC-17, and it might be hard to find, but it's worth it just to see all those names in something so few people have even heard of, much less seen.

You know, I'd heard about that one for a hot second! Didn't realize so many "names" were in it though; James Spader's being the only one that doesn't surprise me at all. Ever see Secretary? Though, Two Days in the Valley might have been enough to securely place him as one to be in such a film as well - kind of wish VDO had been involved in that one... -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

EDIT: The hurt reply placement being where and to the extent that I thought it might be, I'll leave this comment here, as is, keeping the two "no harm, no foul" explanations back to back... Awe, thanks for your post, cause Vurt did get hurt. Can you tell I'm of the sensitive sort. I can't see how anyone can dislike Goren to the point of actually hating him. I mean, ok, not everyone likes everyone else, characters included, but Goren is such a kind, sweet, good, defend all vulnerable, intelligent, and even understanding to certain 'bad guys' type of man. He had a horrible childhood with a drunken mean father and a sick psychotic mother but instead of wallow in his sorrows, he became a good, educated, empathetic man that became a detective to help others. He even takes care of his sick, schizophrenic mother. So how can anyone hate him? Your last statement on that post that hurt vurt, (I like the way that rhymes Naydi: I second that emotion... Ironic how some people think there's something freakishly wrong with him. Guess there's no accounting for others' perception of what truly human reality is... I can just imagine those type of people are pretty empty inside, or full of not so good karma. (Yes Goren is a character, but still, it's the character they dislike.) Bwalter: I absolutely love your post/posts. You never fail to fill me with joy and laughter. That would be something to see, Goren kissing VDO. I can actually image it somewhat cause, coincidentally, I surfed on YouTube yesterday, and I found a clip of VDO. It was a compilation of him kissing people from various films he's done. All kissy, kissy, kissy. Hmmm, I think I'll add a link for everyone's pleasure. I believe it's allowed as long as there's no NBC - LOCI involved, which there isn't cause he hasn't kissed anyone there, yet, that we know of anyway. Ok, ladies and gents, buckle your seatbelts and enjoy the ride. If you have a problem with watching boys kissing boys, don't bother watching this clip, cause he kisses everyone in it. Here we go, enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGhcj1KoG_g -------------------- |

Claire Dolan was enough for me - being at work and all... Not quite the same with Suffragette City still playing in the background (knew I wouldn't be able to take whatever Hallmark-y Lifetime of a soundtrack more than likely used for the clips), but a nice snippet from the film nonetheless...

Thanks sweets, yeah I was a lil confused there, but I'm glad you guys clarified for me. I really think that you should fly that idea for the thread by Rowe first, cause she just deleted a thread similar to that not too long ago. It was concidered 'creepy' by alot of people. Do you remember her taking a poll from the regulars if we didn't mind her deleting the thread? I guess the fact that this board is the 'Official' NBC CI board, that's VDO's employer, we should have a higher amount of control and respect for his privacy than other VDO sites do. I believe it was called 'The thread to show your 'love' for VDO/Goren', or something like that. So you can see how it's kinda similar to your idea. Don't get me wrong, I liked alot of the posts on that thread, and I posted and defended the idea of it on the thread as well, and I'd love to have a thread like the one you're talking about, but I just wanted you to remind you, or tell you, if you didn't know about what happen, before you go to all that trouble for nothing. Ok, deep breath after all that talking, aaaahhhh. Hope you get what I'm saying sweets, Vurtgirl -------------------- |

Things that scared the h'll out you as a child can end up fascinating you as an adult. Horror movies (yeah - that'd be her) and the atomic bomb - these are my developmental trauma burdens. Living in the woods or even a night of camping: ComPLETELY out of the question for me... Come to me with such a suggestion and 'No'. That, that's just f-g crazy talk, right there!
Heard of Pavlov's dogs, right? Came to start drooling when they heard a bell after being trained to associate the sound with receiving food? Operant conditioning. Well, Let me tell ya: took a long time for me to be able to smell Coast soap without ending up in the throes of mortal fear thanks to the use of a particularly overly powerful bar at the same time that Ma, Grandma an'nem decided it was a great night to watch Terror Train.... *....my life is hard....* EDIT: Oop - that'd be Classical conditioning - operant's the other guy... -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Here we go, enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGhcj1KoG_g I'm gonna...uh...go...ah...have a smoke now. Yeah. Be back in five minutes. Or maybe 5:08. QUOTE Could it be that those that dislike or hate Goren,s character, do not understand him? So, anyway, vurt: this is more what I was thinking. A lot of people only tune in for one ep, or not even that much. So they don't know Bobby's history, they haven't observed his actions over a period of time, they only see this weird guy who seems to have all the answers when everybody else is standing around with their thumbs up their butts looking clueless. (Try to imagine it's your first time watching, and you've only seen one random ep, or only a few scenes from one). So my question isn't in the vein of "I wanna have BG's baby" (especially since we all know that I already have), but more "What was it about Goren that kept us watching when other people changed the channel? What drew us to this character?" |

QUOTE Horror movies (yeah - that'd be her) and the atomic bomb - these are my developmental trauma burdens. Yup, that'd be me. Too many of my own nightmares to sit through a horror movie, and I grew up on a Nike Missile site near Three Mile Island, so those coolant towers (and images of mushroom clouds) still give me the willies. Now Deliverance...that was my platoon's Holy Grail during PLDC at Ft Lewis. We used it for our class motto (and quoted it endlessly amongst ourselves), and asked to be allowed to watch it the night before graduation. Love that movie! (Alas, as with most films, it would have been better with VDO - in any role). |

Okay, so let me tell you what has been taking up so much time of me...like I said I`m on two other message boards, one about The Mole, I think you know the show. And obviously my internship. I study psychology, neuropsychology to be precise and I`m interning in a sort of mental hospital (even though that is NOT the term for it, because that doesn`t exist in this country, it has a different name). There is a separate part of this institution for elderly people and that`s where I am. My department has 4 subdepartments and the one I have to do with is the subdepartment with elderly people with cognitive or/and behavioural problems. Those are clients that live there, but I also have to do with people who live at home. My specialty are the cognitive problems and the implications this has on people. So I have to map the cognitive abilities of these people, but there is also a lot of psychiatry that just runs straight through all of it. That`s what makes it such a great place, because it`s not a so formally defined, it`s a lot of things in one person and even if one thing is not my specialty, you can`t separate it from the rest of the person, because it all influences each other. It`s very very VERY interesting! And it just rewarding to be able to do something for someone, even though that person doesn`t always see it that way. Anyway, our goal is to see if someone can still live at home with some help, or to get someone a good place in a nursing home (where they can deal with the problems that particular person has).
It all sounds very dark now, but it`s really not. Some people there are truly psychiatric patients (although on my subdepartment that not the reason they are admitted, it`s the cognitive of behavioural part that stands out), but some are basicly just old people with a really really really bad memory. And these people are like books. Because all old people are and these people especially. So I hope that`s enough for now Bye! -------------------- If I could look beyond your face And photograph your hidden place Would I find you smiling in the picture? Serious Request |
