Oh, thank you girl! If the link on my site doesn't work anymore, I can put this one in it's place! One of theeee best vids of all time. And if you really want to see him dance, rent "Pennies from Heaven" with Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. Holy schnikies!

Rowe - I am so impressed with your site for Chrisopher Walken. If you create something even half that impressive for VDO, he should crawl across broken glass to worship you ;-)

Aw, thanks b....as long as VDO doesn't *throw* broken glass at me, I'd be happy.

OK, here's the deal. I was going to call the new fansite "chameleon" but it's been done by a fanfic site, and it's a little overused anyway. Instead, going by a quote (that I have to dig up again somewhere) in which VDO claims to choose his roles because of the story they tell, I'll be calling the site "Storyteller - the Vincent D'Onofrio Fansite"...so stay tuned.

I like that. I like that a lot. "Chameleon" is overused, and it makes him sound like Lon Chaney - as if all his work is about make-up. "Storyteller" is certainly more apt for what he does. Even in bit roles, his characters either contribute a significant part to the story, or leave you wanting to know more about that character's personal story. And I trust him to choose roles in films that (by and large) tell a story I want to see, or at the very least, tell me something I haven't thought about before (I think we all have a list of films we would never have discovered were it not for VDO, and a few that we still would not choose to watch except to see him).

Thanks Cvl - I appreciate the fact that you understand my reasoning behind the choice. I'm itching to do the darn thing now. If only I didn't have to work. Or eat, or sleep, or...

Yeah - I really like the choice of title, too; plus, is it just me, or has the whole "chameleon" thing always smacked of just a bit too much bumper-sticker cheese?

Well... Went to the nursing symposium; I got up; I spoke and I've lived to tell about it... Yippeh Ki!!!

Actually, it was kind of fun. Basically, it was a panel set up so the four of us were sitting at a table facing the audience, which, oddly, made me feel a whooole lot more comfortable by the time I got up to speak. The four were the Chief Nursing Officer; his VP of something or other, basically a woman with a biiiiig long title adding up to being a liason between Tom (the CNO), area schools and we, the 'umble student employee; a Nursing Education rep from UMass; and me. Yep - thas' right. "Title", "Title", "Title", me. Errrm herm... Well, okay then.

So, basically, what I'm finding out has seemed to have happened: I've become, apparently...you know, the woman with the biiiiig long title?....I'm apparently her new grad mentoring project. I i'int ask for it or anything. Didn't see it coming. All I did, was just show up one day at something they were having with Regis, yap as I'm prone to do, and that was sort of it. Went with Maggie, another employee who was in my class. From there - got the call that wwtblt wanted to pin me at my graduation, couldn't get that set; but she and Edricka, Tom's assistant, did attend. Then there were the flowers the day of graduation that I wasn't expecting. What I didn't tell you about is the fact that, in the very next employee newsletter, an announcement of the Regis graduation was in it, offering congratulations to me and Maggie. Then, at the monthly Medical Executive Committee meeting in early January -the one the the CNO(again), all the physician Chief of service, Executive VPs and sh' all come to- saw that the graduation was included in the CEO'S REPORT with note as to where me and Maggie are looking to work. Managed, while flipping through the meeting packet (the CEO's Report is sent to us from the Executive Office), to see it was in there before an aural announcement was made and the applause made me turn a deeper beet-red.

Well... Now we're to this week; which kind of started last week. wwtblt called me. We're having a symposium, would like you to speak as a student nurse representative. huh.gif Um, okaaaaay... Guess so. unsure.gif (whut in the h'll....?) Alrighty. Scared sh'tless, came to terms with the fact that it was gonna happen after a couple of days; came here and told you fine people. Well, yesterday. Yesterday I get an email. From wwtblt. Next Friday is the annual meeting of the National Black Nurses Association; We've (the org) has purchased a table, would you like to come? mellow.gif unsure.gif Um, okaaaaay... (how come...?) But then I'm thinking; oh, probably just a fraternal/sorority type of thang just trying to encourage me to become involved in outside organizations, blah blah blah... Well, found out tonight that "we", in terms of the night's attendees, includes the CNO. So. yeeeAH. Alrighty.

Well, we're just gonna go ahead and, you know, just sit back and see what these people seem to want to have planned for dragging me into the profession cuz I don't know what and I don't know why - but I do know well enough to not even ask. eeeYEEGH... blink.gif

(well, my dumbfoundedness took up more words than i expected, so that's pretty much my Adventures in Nursing saga for the night - g'NIGHT!)

Wow Naydi,
I am so so happy for you. I'm really glad your speech went so well for you, and not to mention the new business relationship you developed. That's absolutely awesome. I am curious about alot of things you said, but I got most of it. You'll have to do a weekly update for us from now on...lol..
Congrats, congrats, congrats...Cvl & b are right on, I too see wonderful things in your future.
Good for you girl, you deserve it,

Good gahd almighty, naydi, this is awesome!! You may find yourself bitten by the speaking bug. I am a writer and public speaker by trade (Corporate Training & Development) and I can tell you that if you are even just a little good at it, you will get hooked. Maybe you want to look into joining a local Toastmasters if you think you'll be doing more symposiums or conferences. (Toastmasters, for those who may not know, is an organization that helps people become better at writing and delivering speeches, including doing "cold" responses and debates.)

Are you now?!? NICE! You're not kidding about getting bitten. This was actually my second "real" speaking thing. The first one blind-sided me in a different way. 26, asked to speak at the Officer's Meeting for the bank I worked for re: my 3 month community service sabbatical experience (a whole other strange, serendipitous story). Officer's Meeting - I'm thinking bunch of people around a board room table. Yeah. Try an auditorium of about 200 which is just about to where my heart rate shot up!!! Actually, what saved me then -beside my gift for deadeningly commiting myself to dealing with that which I can't avoid immediately before it's about to happen- was the fact that I didn't know about the crowd size BEFORE I got there. Had I known, they'd have needed a friggin court order, cuffs and police escort to get me to commit to getting up there!! But once it was over, there's a weird glow of 'I DID it! and people actually listened to everything I said and GOT something out of it!' no matter how much you think it was coming out as just a right bunch of uninteresting tripe while you were saying it. And then, the different students and prospective students asking questions afterward and coming to you like you actually had something you could give them and, most importantly, finding out that you actually did? For a "servitudanal (should be a word) fixer", nothing like it in the world... I mean, I went into this thing thinking -I can't believe they're making me do this (cuz, honestly, what kind of idiot would have said, no?)- and left Thanking everybody for including me!! Just - WOW...

Well, this time, as opposed to last when Marketing called me the next day for a copy of my speech which existed only in my head, I did type up things that I didn't end up looking at (going last - Fantastic for focus-editing! learned that one in the classroom...). Just a bunch of bullet points; the bulk of which (the earlier career stuff) ended up getting truncated even more than in the bullets. Man - I just can't say enough how much fun it was... Oh yeah, the audience was made up of nursing students, high school seniors, employee RNs and LPNs and late career changers trying to figure out what to do and do they want to do it(MY people!); about 60 or so in all. There was talk of maybe doing another one down the road given the response. By then, I'd have lost the new grad sheen, but it would be fun to be involved again. Now I'm just babbling... I'mma just shut up now...
