I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Glad it was the article you were referring to.
HAHAHA!!!! Hero??? Naw. I just seem to have a memory that remembers websites and episode names. But can't seem to remember I'm suppose to stop at the grocery store on the way home because I have absolutely nothing to make the family for dinner. SPOILER ALERT
I know there are a number of folks who have seen Claire Dolan and was wondering about your thoughts on the closing scene of the movie. A friend and I were discussing this piece and she was so totally sure I was wrong. Could be, wouldn't be the first time, but it's still sticking with me. Elton and his pregnant wife are walking and meet with Roland. As they're talking, Roland refers to his son and Elton's child maybe getting to know each other. I know that Claire tried so hard to break away from her previous life and to get away from Roland. I just have the feeling that the "son" Roland is speaking about is Claire's boy. That she came back, he took the child, no clue where she is, Roland may actually have killed her. I'm assuming Roland is aware that Elton is the father of Claire's child. The ending (to me) is so open-ended. I was feeling such hope for Claire after such a horrible existence working for Roland. My friend says I ruined the movie for her because now she thinks maybe there's a glimmer of something to my idea. She tried to make me feel bad; but, I went to parochial school and the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph were professionals -- head and shoulders above her amateurish attempts at a guilt trip. Ideas? -------------------- Real men come with real problems,

I Agree Stef, Catholic school nuns were great for laying it on our poor, little sinning heads!
A very effective way to get kids to behave in the classroom. To bad today's teachers aren't allowed such measures ...Just kidding...just kidding you super sensitive parents and teachers out there! Your ending idea for Claire Dolan is very intriguing. Do you believe that Elton knew what Roland was trying to tell him? I always wonder what the time frame is between Claire's delivery of the baby & the scene on the street. Elton would have had to get over trying to find Claire & his son, meet a woman, get married & have the baby almost being due. Does Roland mention how old this son is? Does the time make sense, stef? |

I need to watch it again to answer all of those questions, but it was something I felt the very first time I watched the movie, and that feeling has always lingered with me each time I've watched it since. I believe Roland actually claims to have three children when they are speaking. (WHAT woman would let that monster get close enough to begin with much less...) Do I believe Elton knows? Yes, I do. The fact that Roland is offering his son to Elton as a playmate for his new child, who I believe Elton says is a girl (?), creeps me out, and breaks my heart. That child would be within Elton's reach and out of reach at the same time. How would/could he claim him as his own? I guess Colm Meaney got tired of playing nice guys after Star Trek was cancelled. -------------------- Real men come with real problems,

This is a little off-topic but I don't know where else to ask the question: Does anyone know if D'Onofrio has done theater work, and if so, when and in what? So many of the L&O actors have appeared -- some regularly -- on the New York stage. Some seem to have a regular professional relationship with a theater company.
I thought I read somewhere that D'Onofrio had appeared in a revival of Sam Shepard's "The Tooth of Crime" fairly recently. Did anyone else read that? The reason I ask is that I go to NYC a couple of times a year just to see plays (mostly Off-Broadway), and if I know D'Onofrio does theater work I would look for his name on any of the dozen or so drama company websites I visit now and then. Can anyone help me out with this question? Thanks! AL -------------------- There is no Goren without Eames.

AL According to his biography the part in "Tooth of Crime" was in 1996. The NBC bio describes it as "recently" but I don't think it's happened since at least that time. -------------------- Real men come with real problems,

I definately have to watch this one again, because I did not get that impression from the ending at all. Elton's wife was pregnant and I thought Roland was talking about that baby getting together with his son. In my mind, Claire did get away. Her life was hard, but better than when she was with Roland. After I watch it again, I will let you know if I get a different vibe. -------------------- 5/13/07 OH HAPPY DAY !!!!! LOCI IS RENEWED !!!

I always thought it was creepy that Roland wanted the 'kids' to get together. The last time (that we know of)Roland and Elton met - Roland beat Elton up. Not a nice guy.... and then he wants the kids playing together. Yikes!
I've always thought Claire made. As difficult as it would have been, she was completely determined, and she always got what she wanted. She got away from Roland, she got a child from Elton. But I don't think any of it made her happy in her life. Just in control. In the end I think Roland and Elton made out much better than she did in that department. -------------------- If you try to go beyond your interests just for the sake of pretensions or wealth, your art becomes less legitimate.

Should be getting a copy of Naked Tango any day now. Will let you all know how I like it I finally viewed Naked Tango last evening. WOW! I had seen the European ending on The Reel, but somehow didn't expect the movie to be this "good." "Good" being how sexy VDO is, especially when dancing the Tango & smoldering with his deep penetrating stares & brooding expressions. The acting by all is definitely over the top, sort of campy. I can see how it could be somewhat of an indie tango cult classic. Or viewed as a bomb. I didn't like Vincent voice, he sounded an awful lot like Clint Eastwood. Too raspy & deep. His own natural voice is so sensually soft, it would have been a much better choice. All through the movie, I wondered why Vincent accepted this role? It's out of character, even for him. He must have needed the money at the time. It would be nice to imagine that he chose it for it's "artistic expression. I'm sure he's claimed that in interviews. But hey - sometimes an actor just has to eat, right? And there's nothing wrong with that. Stef, I definitely prefer the European ending over the wimpy USA one. Do not understand why the US distributers made the call to abort such a sensual conclusion. |

Do not understand why the US distributers made the call to abort such a sensual conclusion. Vincent was not the first person considered for the part of Cholo. Esai Morales, who played Zico, was originally cast and was then recast as the brothel owner. The IMDb also says that William Hurt was considered. Never thought of his voice as being reminiscent of Clint Eastwood's in this role, but hey, that's one sexy septuagenarian, so he could do worse! Always did like Clint. -------------------- Real men come with real problems,

Just an observation. I watched Happy Accidents this weekend, followed quickly by a second screening with the director commentary and Vincent speaking. When discussing a particular scene, Vincent's comment about the difficulty of playing a particular piece included this little "Oof!" followed by an explanation of why it was such a difficult scene to perform. I notice that while playing Goren he uses that same expression in similar situations. Just wondering if it's a verbal mannerism of his, like Dan Castellaneta's signature "Doh!" for Homer Simpson.

Apparently that movie "Strange Days" was on last night (during CI) on the Action network. I found out today. i was so annoyed 'cause I checked the website for a listing and couldn't find it previously. Grrr...now I have to shell out cash for a movie I could have gotten for free. BUT Vincent's in it so I'll recover...
Is Happy Accidents at Blockbuster or any major movie rental store? I didn't see it when I last looked...and as far as I know we Canadians don't have Netflix...actually I don't know what online rental stores we do have. -------------------- A wise man never plays leapfrog with a unicorn.

I had not seen Happy Accidents at any chain rental store in Toronto (although I didn't check too widely). It is available for rental at Bay Bloor Video in Toronto or you can get HMV to bring it in for you for $14.00 CDN. Cheers, Kristina |

It is a measure of my admiration for VDO that I have already picked up the phone and called Rogers to order the Movie Network (well, it beats working). Didn't even do that for the 6th season "Sopranos" or "Six Feet Under"!! We had had the Movie Network for about 6 months but didn't find there was much on it so cancelled it. Now if I can only get the "download to video" function of the PVR to work... Wonder if there is any chance they'll play "Naked Tango" (which I would very much like to say... being a tango aficionada among all other things...). Cannot find a copy for love nor money. Same with Guy. (I have an odd aversion to ebay coupled with no credit card so that is not an option). |
