I'm sure you can't answer this, but I'm curious. Wonder if the huge number of postings for Conan's show are due to either/both of swing shift people getting home & turning on tv; or graveyard shift turning on tv once they are settled in for the night.

I'd say the reason there are so many posts on this board is because a lot of us (myself included) have nothing else better to do with ourselves but be "forum *****."

That, and I dare say alot of the "regulars" here feel somewhat indebted to Conan/Late Night for various reasons or have a huge crush on Conan or both. That doesn't really explain why Conan's board has ~18,000 more posts than other late night shows though. I guess you could infer that Conan has a lot of fans who like to use the internet. And I think Late Night is on in many more countries than, say, Leno & SNL. I'd bet this board has the most international people out of the 3, anyway.

Were you the one who posted the picture of your lips which I commented on a while back?
Yes but I'd rather not put that in my sig.

I think Conan attracts a younger demographic. This demographic is more technologically savvy than the Leno demographic or SNL demographic. Of course, that doesn't explain the lack of activity over on Carson's board, but I think he went the MySpace route instead.

Late Night seems to attract introverted and intelligent (and young) people, who spend too much time with their computer and some of them even post a lot. wink.gif

Yeah, it's crazy. The "Late Night" board currently has 24,134 posts, and in the late night TV show category, the show with the next highest number of posts is Leno with a measly 5,918 posts. Which means there are basically 18,000 more posts here. That's a lot to sift through.

I'm so proud of us! biggrin.gif

And Late Night has many young fans all over the world so this is really a good place for them to discuss. cool.gif

Don't forget the people with a low self-esteem and different levels of depression and other similar psychological issues (hey, I'm Finnish, that's it how they call those in here! tongue.gif)

Would you please advise us? We're having trouble organizing the "my nbc" shows. Can't find Tonight Show w/Leno. Also, what does that feature do for you anyway? Is there anywhere we can look to see how all this works etc? Thank you in advance. We'll check back in later.

I've never tried to use this feature, so I cannot be of service in this matter.

I've never used the myNBC feature either, but it looks like a way to sort of bookmark the websites of different shows on nbc.com. I think it's also supposed to let you know when the site for that show is updated (as long as you check it for updates).
If you want to add the Tonight Show to your myNBC, go to the Tonight Show site: http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/
Then click the link in the top center of the page that says "Click + to add this show to your myNBC."

Thanks you guys for the advice. It's helped a lot. Plus, I discovered the "Help" icon above "View New Posts". If I can learn a little more each day, that's good. Feel free to help me/us smile.gif though. And thanks again.

My concern, and anger is with the way things are dealt with- on this Board by 'others' when you seek help or ask for assistance. It is horrible really. but unrelated to our great people on this board.
Would you like to elaborate? Sev and I can pass your concerns on to the people who have more power than us. Of course there's no guarantee that they'll listen.

I noticed that some of you were discussing not being able to edit or delete your posts in the "Bit or Plug?" thread. Sev and I have access to a Moderator forum, and this is what happened according to some posts there:

"I wholeheartedly approve of the change to not permit Members to delete their own posts or threads, though. We had one member leave after throwing a royal temper tantrum and she deleted one of her threads (which happened to be the most popular on our forum) as a parting act of spite"
-someone from The Office board

A mod responded:
"Ya someone did that a while ago and deleted a popular thread of theirs and dissapointed a lot of fans. so that is when we took away the ability to delete threads. But it was recently i took away the option to delete their own posts because of trouble makers."

Then someone talked about a change in the board setting for merging posts that are posted by the same person in 1 thread within so many (1-5) minutes of each other. An admin responded:
"Actually, Admins...please do not change settings that impact all the boards without running it by me first. This particular modification doesn't work well with everyone board, though I can see that it'd be helpful in the daytime boards."

I will ask the admin who wrote that last message about bringing edit/delete back for everyone at the Conan board, since we didn't really have an issue with troublemakers abusing the edit/delete functions (aside from one troll I can think of who is no longer posting here). For now, I think you have up to 10 minutes to edit your post but no ability to delete it yourself. If you want to delete a post or edit it past the 10 minutes, PM me or Sev, and we can do this for you.

I got a response from an admin today saying:

The ability to edit (or not edit) is based on a user's Group (Members, Moderators, etc.), not the forum on which he or she posts. It is impossible to allow just one forum to have edit ability as it has nothing to do with the forum, but rather the Group a user belongs to. (Which means the admins are still not not going to allow "Members" to edit past 10 minutes of a post.)

I was also told: In response to the notion that "no other message board" limits the ability to edit -- it may not be "the norm", but here's a popular forum which also recently changed their edit policy (from "unlimited" to 24 hours): http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=207622
-------

Sorrrrrry. I tried.

You say I have made personal attacks against Brimble -- how could I have done that when I don't even know who Brimble is, or for that matter, WHERE Brimble is.

QUOTE (SonOfJoel @ Dec 22 2007, 10:01 AM) *
The only ones who can get away with "personal attacks" on this board are the moderators. They cover up for their insane friends and attack people in the news who used to be on this board. God forbid anyone here have anything like a discussion, or the board Nazis'll come and get ya!
Hope you get to read this before it, or my account, gets deleted.

I'm going to make some clarifications about the nbc.com community rules now. Everyone who posts here is responsible for being familiar with and following the rules.

I demand at the very least that everyone respects each other on this board when posting. Lack of respect fosters negativity, and that's not something I want or am allowed to have happen.

One of nbc.com's rules states that any post involving inflammatory/flaming comments/personal attacks against anyone at Late Night and/or anyone on this message board will be deleted by the moderators. When your comments are deleted, you will receive a warning (visible to moderators & administrators) and a PM (private message) about your inappropriate post from a moderator. Three warnings will result in suspension of your account, the length of which is determined on an indvidual basis.

Personal attacks on individuals - including name-calling, insults, and "flaming" - will not be tolerated. We encourage "healthy debate" of differences of opinions but this does not include negative or mean-spirited comments about other individuals.

Do not retaliate or respond in any way to a personal attack that you perceive to be directed at yourself or another board member. All too often, when an initial attack is levied, others join the fray and instead of becoming part of the solution, they become part of the problem. If you feel that you have been the recipient of a personal attack, contact a moderator immediately.

A personal attack is also a fallacious argument defined within the field of logic. It involves ignoring the claims made in someone's argument and attacking the person himself/herself.

You do not need to know someone "personally" or where they are located to be making a personal attack.

If you have to add anything along the lines of "I hope you read this before it gets deleted" to the end of a post, you are obviously aware that you shouldn't be posting it at all. Please don't make these kind of posts.

As stated previously, the moderators have warning and suspension guidelines to follow. Technically, when you lash out against a moderator or administrator, your account is to be immediately suspended.

Recently, the administrators discovered that a few people who post on the late night tv boards have been posting under multiple handles. This is deceptive at the very least. Each person is only permitted to have one active account. The administrators continue to track this.

If you don't think you can follow the rules, please do not post here!

Yes. This board has "moderators", and ever since that has happened, the Conan board has drifted down into a sorry state of affairs. There's nothing about this particular board that is appealing at all anymore, I'm sorry to say. I've been around a few years, and I've watched many interesting and peculiar people leave the board because what used to be a fun discussion about a great show has been so censored and become so polarized by the moderators that anything that doesn't gush about the show and/or the writers is instantly deleted. And the worst part is the hypocrisy and the cronyism--the friends of the moderators get away with things, but even new members are chastised if they fall out of lockstep with the new party line. How sad. (And as for people who post under more than one name, I know of at least one moderator--yes, a moderator--who is doing it and getting away with it, but I don't see anyone coming down on her.)

I'm not backing down, but I'm not going to take it any more, either. I've already announced my virtual departure from this board, and I fully intend to take it more seriously from now on. To me, it's sad that something I used to look forward to reading every day has sunk so low, but that's how the cookie crumbles when no one polices the police.
