They become catch-phrases because everybody says them, not the other way around. They don't design them specifically to become catch-phrases, it just works out that way. If you hate it so much, don't say them. they dont design them specifically to become catch-phrases?!?!? Of coarse they do. Do you think they sit around and say "hey! Lets promote the show with something completely forgettable that noone will talk about!" ?? |

However, they write a script, they don't sit down with a pencil and brain-storm stupid little "catch phrases." When a particular line sums up a story arch, they use it when promoting that arch. (Thus, "save the cheerleader, save the world" and "are you on the list.") -------------------- Fractures: Rated M ![]() Play Heroes: Survival now//Check profile for other links |

And then they promote Reruns with crappy phrases like:
New to You!

Obviously they dont write catch phrases and then arc around them. They become catch phrases because theyre repeated ad nauseum. |

They are a little overused, yes, but they also sort of divide the show into chapters or themes. They actually sound like comic book titles a little bit. It would still be a great show without them, but I think it's to their credit that they get people excited and asking questions. Getting people involved with the theme pulls them along for the ride. I think it's one of the things that makes it a phenomenon rather than just another drama like the Nine. Any show can do a mystery, but as corny as it sounds, the catchphrases or sayings make it more of an adventure. Peter's sort of our Frodo I guess.
It also reminds you that the mission is bigger than life. There's so much stuff going on it's easy to forget what the real mission is. The slogans kind of keep it simple and remind you what it's all about when you're watching those boring Matt marriage scenes. With a show like this it would be easy to get lost with so many storylines. Unlike shows, like Lost, it's nice to be reminded every once in a while that things actually do fit in with the big picture and you're not wasting your time asking all the wrong questions. Now that I've got into that, I think they've learned from Lost that's it's nice to focus somewhere and not just throw storylines together, asking more and more questions while doing a terrible job of simplifying things and getting answers. Too much information and too many things going on can frustrate viewers, especially those that can't keep up with every episode and every detail. As long as they still have a goal to focus on and put the show it all into perspective, a wider range of fans can enjoy it without feeling out of the loop. Knowing the details aren't as important as long as have a general idea of what's going on. So less-informed fans can still get in on the "Save the Cheerleader" mission or "Who's on the List" theme and enjoy the show for the just being a good show without having to feel like they have to had watched it from the beginning or understood every storyline and detail. I guess that makes it more fan-friendly. Sorry, my post sort of took on a life of it's own. |

I think that, just so long as they don't start making their own catch phrases, we'll be fine- "Heroes, almost as great as NBC itself!" After all, you know how creative these television stations get..
