Signed. Good luck with this, it's quite a cool thing to do. Orbach was a great character actor.

I was just watching the episode "Whose Monkey is it Anyway" and was cracking up over a couple of Jerry's one-liners. Wouldn't it be great to have a Law and Order tribute to Jerry Orbach with a brief history on how he started with the show, out-takes, most popular one-liner clips, behind the scenes look and any community/civic things he did while attached to the show.
I know I would be watching along with a few million others! |

In Ireland I see Law and Order regularly, it's very consistent and always enjoyable. The best of all crime series as far as I'm concerned. Jerry is sadly missed, I hope he is honoured by the city.

I watch L&O in the UK and have NEVER missed an episode. I too would like to see some sort of recognition of Orbach's work, so I've added my vote.

Hello,
I have just learnt, on Playbill, that a théatre will carry Jerry Orbach's name (Je viens d'apprendre, sur Playbill, qu'un théatre portera le nom de Jerry Orbach) The space that currently houses the revival of The Fantasticks will be named the Jerry Orbach Theater at a June 21 dedication ceremony. (The Snapple Center's other theatre, which is the home of the long-running Perfect Crime, remains unnamed). The idea to name the theatre after Orbach was inspired by a photo of the actor — who played El Gallo in the original 1960 production of The Fantasticks — that was seen in the lobby. Russell and associate director Charles Geyer met with Orbach's widow, Elaine Cancilla-Orbach, and told her of their idea for renaming the theatre in her late husband's honor. Cancilla-Orbach then called "Law & Order" producer **** Wolf. ![]() Playbill -------------------- "In giving freedom to the slave, we assure freedom to the free..." Abe Lincoln

Hi. I saw the late Mr. Orbach in the show Fantastik's. I thought he was a great actor. "NO ONE HURTS BABY" or something like that from dirty dancing.....I was upset with last nights law and order show and had to express my thoughts. Living in NY I would like to see him honored. Could you post where i sign up on your blog. Being new, i couldn't locate nor follow the yellow brick road to the site. thanks.

The sign has been already put up, here is the posting:
NEW YORK (AP) — A stretch of 53rd Street at Eighth Avenue has been renamed for Broadway and TV star Jerry Orbach, who died in 2004 at 69. Orbach's widow, Elaine Orbach, unveiled the new street sign at a ceremony Monday attended by actors including Richard Belzer and Robert Klein. Nominated for three Tony Awards, Orbach originated the roles of El Gallo in The Fantasticks and Billy Flynn in Chicago. He was known more recently as Detective Lennie Briscoe on the NBC television series Law & Order. |

Very hard to replace the character Lenny Briscoe. I watch all the reruns. Last year's actor was terrible in that spot across from my other favorite, Jesse, but this year is a great improvement. I am very glad that my hometown of NY is recognizing Jerry Orbach. Although I firmly believe that celebs should not get special attention just because they're on a screen, Jerry portrayed New Yorkers as they really are, funny, problematic, sarcastic, he had it down pat. I miss him.
