Since its December already, why not start celebrating Christmas! Although this year is not going to be a "huge" Christmas for many people, we can still celebrate this wonderful holiday and share our stories, favorite songs, favorite movies.. anything really! I wish it snowed where I live.. because the snow and Christmas lights are one of my favorite things about this holiday! What are your favorite things about Christmas?

Awwww, I love Christmas threads! wub.gif Thanks for starting this one, Jen. Very cool! biggrin.gif

This year many aren't able to spend the $$$$ we usually do at Christmas time. While some may be stressed, anxious, or even a little sad about this, I think there's a bright silver lining. Maybe the lack of $$$$ will encourage everyone to remember what Christmas is all about. Spending quality time with family and friends doesn't have to cost a dime. Walking in the snow, for those who have snow, and singing Christmas carols costs absolutely nothing. Plus it spreads good holiday cheer. biggrin.gif Walking around looking at the colorful, Christmas decorations cost absolutely nothing. Sharing stories and memories with family and friends, totally free.

I love this time of year. wub.gif My family isn't spending as much this year, as we've all been hit hard by these tough times. Even so, I'm still enjoying the season. It was never supposed to be about the money. For me it's about family, friends, gatherings, lights and colors, and the annual cheerfulness that seems to be in the air. So many make the effort to be just a little bit kinder, a little more patient, a little more tolerant. Much of it is 'put on' but who cares. It brightens up the atmosphere regardless.

Wishing everyone here the merriest Christmas and a happy New Year.

I just found out today (unless something happens) that I won't have to spend another holiday alone <jumping up and down>

my mom called me today and brother and I are invited to parents house. unsure yet about meal since my mom is ill, but we'll spend time together..

I have no money for gifts, but that doesn't matter does it.. it's being with family and friends.

since my divorce I've spent so many holidays alone... so happy that I don't have to be alone for this one again wink.gif (interesting that all year Salem hasn't had many either except this month. and Salem has put up decorations early)

now all I need is a date wub.gif

and here is a preview of my Christmas sig

My favorite Christmas movies are:

It's a Wonderful Life

Miracle on 34th Street (the original, B&W)

While You Were Sleeping

and...

Lethal Weapon...yes, it is so a Christmas movie! rolling.gif

What are everyone's signs that it is really Christmas? I have three..

(1) Watching Charlie Brown Christmas
(2) Seeing the Budweiser Clydesdales pulling the sleigh
(3) Darlene Love singing "Christmas Baby, Please Come Home" on Letterman

Until I see those three things, it's not really Christmas yet.

I'm a Halloween ghoul through and through. I've always liked Christmas, but never really went gung-ho with the decorating...until last year. My late best friend loved Christmas and ragged on me all the time about how I just did the basic tree-trimming. She died in March, 2007. November (2007) I vowed that I would "do the house up", as she would say. Do it up I did! She would have been proud. It's a tradition that I'm continuing.

For me Christmas season doesn't truly begin until I hear Bing Crosby's "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" in the mall. I heard it yesterday while my son and I were shopping. We had a great time... he started at one end of the aisle of the toy store, I at the other... and we pressed buttons. The noise! Gosh it was great. We had supper at the food court, then ice cream for dessert. We came home and watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". I remember watching that when I was a child. It's still my all-time favorite... and now it's my son's favorite too.

Oh! I forgot about Grinch...the cartoon, not the movie. I can practically say all the dialogue by heart.

Not much chance of snow here in Florida either, Savvy. But it did snow a couple days before Christmas in 1989. Northerners would laugh and say it wasn't really a snowstorm, but it was to us. And it stayed on the ground through Christmas!

What are your favorite Christmas movies?

I like the Christmas Carol movies. I think the one with Patrick Stewart the best, but I enjoyed the musical one NBC did. (Mickey Mouse is good too) and you can't have the holiday with out Rudolph..I have DVD and watch when I want

Unless I get some help, I won't be decorating inside or out. I haven't since the divorce. I have cats so I haven't put up a tree and my house smaller so I'm not sure where to put one.

I want to put out lights outside (what I love the most) but unsure how alone.. I wouldn't even try to put any up high.

thanks on the banner. I made awhile ago when I had that trial offer.. I have too much free time wink.gif

I was lucky that the people who owned the house before me, put up those light clips. I also have big nails hammered in and bent up to hold the extension cords.

Every year I tell myself I'm going to have an electrician come and put a dedicated line out front to plug in all the lights. As it is, I have a very long extension cord coming from the outlet on the back of the house to the front. Then I have an "elaborate mix" of smaller extension cords with three plug-ins. I have the icicle lights around the front porch, garland lights twisted around the porch columns, and garland lights over the French doors on the front. My dream is to one day have them all around the house.

Problem is...when I have all the lights plugged in, including the icicle lights around the sliding glass door on the patio, I can't blowdry my hair without flipping the breaker. For some reason, my bathroom outlet is on the same line as the outdoor outlet.

I didn't realize you replied to my other message.

I was going to put up lights on my rail outside, but it got cold over the weekend. the plug outside isn't close so I would with have to either tape cord on porch or try to put overhead.. since I'm afraid of heights, I decided I won't even tempt it w/out help.

I think you need to take the time NOW and get that electrician in. you don't want your house to burn down.

I just saw "It's A Wonderful LIfe" in it's entirety last year for the first time. Awesome movie! wub.gif

Love "Home Alone" and "While You Were Sleeping".

I just saw "The Santa Clause" for the first time this year. Another fun movie! Gotta love Tim Allen! tongue.gif laugh.gif wub.gif

I watch "A Christmas Story" at least once a year, and I try to catch "Jack Frost" as well.

I'm not sure which one is my favorite. I love them all. wub.gif

My favorite traditional Christmas movie that I grew up loving from childhood was "Santa Clause Is Coming To Town". Of course "Rudalph" "Frosty The Snowman" "Charlie Brown", and "The Grinch" will always be "must see's".

I love this time of year.
