I have been looking at some of the clues from the show and from Passions Red and I think that they rule out certain people.
1. the scrapbook: the articles in the scrapbook were really old, they dated back to Julian's birth. So that would indicate that Red is older than Julian, possibly in Alistair's age range, so that counts Grace, Faith, and Maria out.
2. The Crane Moseleum: I think that the body in Katherine's crypt was Rachel. Remember when Beth threw Sheridan in the ocean after she gave birth? Sheridan was suppose to be near death and went to heaven and saw her mother. Since Katherine has been alive the whole time, it doubt it was her. Werent Rachel and Katherine suppose to be twins? If Sheridan mistook Rachel for Katherine the night she stabbed her, she might have done it again. My guess is that the woman she talked to in "heaven" was indeed Rachel.
3. The wedding dress: the wedding dress doesnt have to directly belong to Red. It could be a Crane family heirloom. Then again, it could be a dress that Red never got to wear thanks to Alistair.
4. Alistair's fear: when Alistair realized that Red was in the mansion, he nearly lost bodily functions. you have to ask yourself, who would Alistair be afraid of? Who could have the power to bring him down? If Alistair really isnt a Crane by blood, then he could be afraid that Red will reveal the truth and he looses everything.
5. The mansion: The way that she navigated through the mansion gives the impression that she has lived there or spend significant time their before.
I definitely think that Red is a Crane. As far as the scrapbook goes, Al's sister, Sheridan, and Ivy were/are Cranes so they would have access to the Crane Archives. So would Helena Winthrop and Kathleen Bennett since they are in Alistair's age range and would have been old enough to have those news articles.
I think the key is the perfume and Alistair's reaction to it. The perfume is either Al's sister or Rachel's. If it is Rachel's perfume, then my guess is Red is Sheridan, of not then its his sister

Ok, I have been converted... I think it's Al's sister or maybe another older extention of the Crane family...

maybe its a person from the family who lived there before the cranes and now shes come back for revenge...not likely but it would add another family to the show

If you look at the photo clues you see how the room is set up. There's a doll house, a painting of a young girl(5-8 years) the dresser with the doily on it , the bird cage, the 20's style love seat, with the chandlier of about the same era. There are also two chairs near a window one small, one large, the trunk and the wedding dress.
My Theory is that she is Al's younger sister. Either one of two possible scenerios fit.
1. She was badly injured as a child, and she was hidden away.
1. The most interesting and plausable. She is Al's sister and was at one time to be married to Ben Bennet. On or around the time of her wedding day, she was badly scarred in some type of accident, and everyone believed she was dead. Because he was the police chief Ben Bennet was called upon not only as a cop, but as a fiancee, to find her. He never did. Al's anger at the Bennets grew out of the loss of his sister and the fact that he never forgave Ben for not finding her.

I dont think that is the case. If Alistair and his sister were that close, then she wouldnt be stalkin him with a butcher knife, nor would he have been so frightened when he smelled her perfume in the mansion

I am not sure why Alistar hates the Bennetts, but I am sure that Al's Father(?) stole Land from Sam's Grandfather(?) and that is why the Bennetts aren't supposed to have anything to do with the Cranes. Al doesn't want the Bennetts to find out about it so He tries to keep them away from the Crane archives and mansion (which doesn't work too well)
