Hey, really great idea to have this board!
I wanted to ask whether photo cameras will be allowed into the Toronto show. I will be out most of the day before and after, and I wanted to bring a camera. Since I will not be using a car I will have no place to put it if its not allowed, so I wanted to know if I will be able to bring it in or not?

Feb 7 2004, 03:07 AM
I was actually wondering that myself. They made it pretty clear in the e-mail that there shouldn't be any flash photography blah blah blah, and not to bring any electronics that you don't need. But I'm sure a lot of people will consider cameras a must, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Not that I know anymore than you.

Ah jeez. I have no idea what to do here, I have been listening to the edge all day to get tickets for Conan in Toronto. I think this lottery thing wasn't the way to go. I understand if they just sold them, they would sell in minutes and that wouldn't be fair either, but I missed out on seeing Conan at the anniversary show, and I would give anything to see him in toronto, espcially since I live 45 minutes away.

You know how the Merriam-Webster dictionary created the new word, McJob? I'd like to see Conan do a weekly revision on words and sayings that fit current events, ie:
1. Room Service: What a maid gets when entering Kobe Bryant's room.
2. Boy Scouts: The people Michael Jackson hires to scout for boys.
3. Left it at halftime(<--say it quickly): It's what Janet Jackson DIDN'T show at the Super Bowl!

Did you apply for tickets in the lottery? I thought they gave tickets to most people who applied, because both my boyfriend and I won tickets. I think they also took people who applied in certain periods of time to give them tickets to particular shows, because we applied at the same time and got tickets to the same show.
On a side note, does anyone happen to know who Conan's guests will be on Wednesday? I can't wait to find out. Hopefully cactus chef is one of them

I'm assuming you're a guy since your usernake is quakeguy, but if you have a girl coming with you, just have her hide it in her shirt.
Otherwise, the Elgin theatre is right next to Eaton Centre, and i think Eaton Centre has lockers inside, so you could always put it there.
Hope that helps!

I don't know if this helps, but I believe the bit you are looking for was called 'Muppet Faces of Death'. It was a spoof of the cult favorite 'Faces of Death' videos that were popular about 12 or 13 years ago.
On an unrelated topic, I hope that Conan doesn't do shows from Toronto without paying homage to SCTV, especially since his comedic style owes so much to this classic TV comedy.

Hello,
Anyone who saw Friday(2/6)'s episode, when Paul Rudd was on they showed a fake clip of Friends, it was in fact some 80s'ish movie of a kid going down a hill in a wheelchair and falling into a lake with a girl yelling "Derek!"(i think).
Does anyone know the name of this movie?
Thanks

Feb 10 2004, 05:08 AM
I just watched an episode, but I don't know when exactly it originally aired. Bob Odenkirk was one of the guests, and he referred to his "new" movie, "Melvin Goes to Dinner", and an episode from "about two years ago", which showed a flashback to January 2001. The only other guest I saw was Tom Shales.
Anyway, assuming this episode is from early 2003, here is the sketch I'm wondering about: it was about an NBC show that was cancelled before the promo was even over. It was called "Ivy Pointe", and was about a female rock band with a psychic lead singer. The singer was played by a SUPER hot redhead.
My question: who is she? Anybody know? Anybody remember the episode, or know how I can find out? The website isn't much help. Thanks.

No Im going with a guy unfortunately, though with your idea I might make him wear a skirt. Hey, he said he would do anything for tickets!
I just wanted to know for sure because I dont want to get to the door and the NBC guys tell me I cant bring it in and I lose my spot in line. Looks like I wont be bringing a camera, most likely.

I didn't like the first show in Toronto. The crowd was too loud and they ruined the whole show. They shouldn't go there anymore. You could tell during Conan's monologue, that he was getting annoyed, they wouldn't shut up.

I just want to say thanks to Conan et. al. for doing a week of shows from Canada. How kickass to feel like I'm home, even if only for an hour or so, without having to get off my chesterfield (heh - only Canucks will know what that is) in Omaha. The next time (and there simply HAS TO BE a next time) you're in TO, make sure you get Rick Mercer on the show. You won't regret it.

I was at the Tuesday taping. Be there by at least noon if you want to get into the main theatre. Else you'll be watching on a movie screen, from another room!

Feb 11 2004, 10:57 AM
The bottom line is that standby tickets (and many real tickets) are a waste of time. It turns out the Elgin theatre has capacity of 700-800 or so, and the show has promised tickets to over 1000 people per show. So, to make up the difference, they use an overflow theatre - the Winter Garden, which is actually above the Elgin. There you have the wonderful experience of watching the show on a movie screen. So if you are in the last 200 or so people in line with promised tickets, or if you waste your time waiting for a standby ticket, that's where you wind up. People were actually leaving part way through, it was such a disappointment. At least after the taping you can scoot into the Elgin, take a few pictures and watch Conan and Max sign autographs.
My advice:
1. If you have a ticket, get there by at least noon. People I sat beside in the Winter Garden got in line about 1:30 and didn't get in the main theatre. If you want to be at the front, get there at least by 9 AM. For the first show anyhow, a few people were in sleeping bags. Be prepared for a long cold day of standing and waiting.
2. Don't waste your time on standby tickets. Or if you do want one, don't bother showing up until around noon. They gave out maybe 200 standbys today, everybody got in and at least a hundred more could have got in. It's like watching a movie in a theatre, where you sit really makes little difference. You could even try just showing up around 4:45, you might be able to walk right in.
Good luck.

A few additional technical notes from today:
- I arrived at 7:45 this morning, I wound up with standby ticket #33 (which as I mentioned previously made no difference). Maybe 15 people with tickets were there when I arrived (all the guys in Leaf jerseys you'll see tonight)
- the first people got into the theatre I believe around 3:45 or so. The line wraps all the way around the block. Standbys get in 4:35 and after. The show actually started around 4:40 today
- line up to the right of the theatre entrance
- cameras are allowed, just don't use them during the taping, obviously
- Roots in the Eaton Centre has tuques ($20), ring t-shirts ($25) and zip up hoodies ($80) with the Late Night in Toronto special logo on them
- standby tickets are collected on entering, so if you fancy a memento you might try just grabbing one and then seeing if you can get in without a ticket around 4:45

I don't know, JT. Jim has such big ears and, well, I've heard rumors... you know, and well... I find the whole thought of having him on TV more than a bit frightening.
I am looking forward to seeing naked women on Friday nights show, though.

I am staying up late to watch the show taped in Toronto, I have lived in NYC for the past 7 years, moved here from Toronto, and am enjoying watching Canadian humour. Also having the show taped in different locations periodically will increase interest in the show (exposure of humour in different regions, hometown celebs with a hometown audience). Mike Myers raw story about his toilet boil experience sent me to bed laughing....
