Ok in my last post i noticed alot of people put the scene that got them hooked on The Office...and i thought it would make an interesting thread...so...

Put the scene that got you hooked, not where you just liked it or thought it was funny, i mean like die-hard fan hooked (we know everyone on here is a die-hard fan or they wouldnt be here), and if you dont' have one particular scene, just put the episode...

Mine was when I watched Performace Reviews, with the suggestion box

Michael: We need better outreach for employee's fighting depression...ok, alright...enough with the jokes, nobody in here is suffering from depression...
Jan: That sounds serious Michael
Michael: Oh ok, well...ya, who wrote it?
Dwight: Tom
Michael: See then it is a joke, because no one in here is named Tom
Phylis: Tom? He worked in accounting until up about a year ago..
Micheal: *questioning face*
Phyllis: *whisphers* Tom...*makes a gun with her hand and pulls the trigger* *mouths boom*
Michael: Oh that guy? That guy was wierd...alright next suggestion...

That is brilliant! So funny, i couldnt stop laughing until the commercial break...!

Now go at it people!

Wow. Let me think. Well, the first episode i watched was halloween, but the scene that got me hooked was probably in christmas party.

kevin: What are we going to do with this cut off part?
michael: We are going to sell it to charity. That's what christmas is all about.

I dont think that episode gets enough credit. yankee swap, the party, and ho ho ho [censored]! were just too much!

Oh, and since i wasnt hooked, i didnt realize how big of a deal that card was in the jim-pam. too bad. if i watched it for the first time now as soon as he said "Christmas is the time to tell people how you feel" i would have been thinking about that card the whole episode.

The first episode I watched was the Injury, my cousin told me the show was hilarious so I thought I'd try it out. I downloaded it to my Ipod. When I saw that bathroom scene, I knew I would watch that show until the day I die.
DwightIsMyHero
isn't that how we all feel? that we are going to watch the show until the day we die...and i know im dead serious...haha

My brother is a huge fan of the show and when season one was released on DVD last summer, he got it, brought me into the living room, and had me watch the whole first season. I couldn't stop laughing, even when I was at work later that night. Thank God I was the only one there. The scene from the Health Care episode where Jim locks Dwight in the conference room is what got me hooked.
Tony2u
The scene that got me hooked was from the very first episode when Michael called Pam into his office and pretended to fire her. I know this is the same pilot as the British series, but when I first saw it I could not stop laughing all night. I love how the show has grown over this second season.

haha, but you know the 3rd season will be that much better beacuse we have been waiting over the entire summer...

I just graduated college and I want to find a job soon just so I'll have something to do over the summer and it'll go by faster. And I guess I could party a lot with my friends. haha
ilovepam
"haha, but you know the 3rd season will be that much better beacuse we have been waiting over the entire summer... "

It's like breaking celibacy or something.. hehe
mkkletti
I wouldn't have used that for an example, but I know what you mean.

My Scene: Michael dancing on the Booze Cruise

When Jim popped Dwight's fitness orb - I had to pause the TIVO because I was laughing so hard. Partly b/c I've used one as my chair in college when my dorm room was so tiny that it couldn't comfortably fit a chair.

The scene that got me to downloaded everything from iTunes b/c I'm too impatient for season 2 dvd release - The Injury when Jim is spraying Dwight and Michael with the spray bottle. So classic.

I watched the show from the very beginning. I think what got me was in the commercials when they showed Michael at Merideth's birday party. He tells them his joke and everyone just stares at him. I thought it was funny and that it was funny that no one else thought it was funny. That part of the commercial got me to watch. Then when I watched it I was hooked because there has never been a sitcom (in the U.S.) with this format. I love that there isn't a laugh track. My mom tried to watch it and said, "how am I suppose to know when to laugh?" I looked at her the same way Jim looks at the camera. This is great show and seems to be for the more sophisticated viewer. Just like that old right guard commercial... just more civilized.

I think the Dundies did me in. I was a hardcore BBC Office watcher and the first season I was a little unsure...but of course the whole JAM thing kept me coming back. I am glad this season Michael was more likeable.
Intermittent Reinforcement is the strongest motivator around and we have all fallen prey.
There are also a lot of fetish sites on teasing&denial... and well the long summerbreak after such a tease with that kiss & upcoming changes has us panting... I just hope season 3 is satisfying...
Officionada
No question about it. "Do you want to form an alliance with me?" "Absolutely I do." smile.gif

I've loved the show since the pilot, but I think that the whole episode of diversity day got me hooked.

haha i think that's how i would explain it, the premiere episode of the 3rd season is going to be my guitly pleasure...!

The whole episode of Diversity Day got me hooked. I love politically incorrect humor and this was about as politically incorrect as you can get, especially on network TV.

A specific scene was right when they started with the cards on the forehead. Michael announced that he made up a bunch of cards with different races and people had to give stereotypes of those races. Then it showed someone (can't remember who) with a card that said "Jewish". I completely lost it and that's when I knew I would be watching every week.

I watched from the pilot, because I loved the BBC version, and I've been a huge Steve Carell fan since he was on The Daily Show. I was very, very afraid at first, since the pilot seemed lifted virtually word-for-word from the BBC version. But the "index card" scene in Diversity Day was classic, and was probably the one scene that got me hooked.
For my husband, the turning point was the infamous 27 seconds of silence on Booze Cruise (after which he looked at me and said, "that's the best love story on television") and Michael's bacon monologue in The Injury, which had us both in hysterics.
DwightIsMyHero
yes that's a very good scene, i also like that stanley got the card that said 'black' very funny...smile.gif
StanlytheManly
I don't think Stanley would find that funny!
DwightIsMyHero
your right, he didnt find it funny, but almost everyhting on the office, the people wouldn't find funny, but us, the audience does...
ilovepam
Why, of course?
DwightIsMyHero
of course...

I watched this show on and off then I saw take your daughter to work day. That has got to be my favorite one.

The scene with micheal as a kid and Edward R miaow(the puppet) are talking on the show FUNDLE BUNDLE.

EdwardR: when you grow up what do you want to be?
Micheal: When I grow up I want to be married and have 100 kids so I can have 100 friends and no one can say no to being my friend.
EdwardR:* looks at camera blankly*

after that I bought all the episodes for my iPod

that is one of the scenes that craked me up long after it was over... about that time is when I started thining these writers and actors are amazing. This the coolest, freshest, ground braking show in years!
steph15
The first episode I saw was Basketball(i think thats the title). I was eating dinner at the time and I almost choked from laughing so hard. I love seeing Stanley's dribbling skills and Michael's reaction when he finds out he's black but sucks. And Dwight's facemask. And at the very end seeing Creed sink like 10 shots in a row. I new I would be watching for a very long time.
scrantonbranch
The first episdoe I watched was "The Alliance." I, too, laughed at the "Do you want to form an alliance," "Absolutely, I do." I was intriqued but not quite hooked until I saw Jim taping Dwight into a box. That was absolutely hysterical. I was hopelessy addicted when Pam went down to the warehouse with her cell phone. I lost all control when the box tips over. Classic! I think my neighbors probably heard me laughing.
My other fav scenes are Jim's pranks on Dwight, particularly the fitness orb stabbing and Dwight's stuff in the vending machine. I laugh whenever I see an infomercial for a fitness orb or when I visit a vending machine.
ilovepam
The thing that hooked me on the Jam thing was the Dundies, definently, and Diverstiy Day when Jim lost 25% of his comission and was still happy because Pam fell asleep on his shoulder...
milehighgirl
I watched from the pilot episode and was hooked with Diversity Day. Watching Michael break into Chris Rock's routine had me laughing harder than I can ever remember laughing at a tv show. At the end I thought "I can't believe they put this on tv!"
I also couldn't believe that they let Michael tell Phyllis (Sexual Harassment) "the only thing I'm worried about is getting a boner".
officeaddict123
i had always really liked the show since the first episode i saw, but i didn't realize how hooked i was until the finale ended and i realized that i wouldn't be watching the show until the fall.

Date: February 2, 2006: Source: Video iPod: I watched The Pilot and Diversity Day while on a flight to Atlanta..they got a couple of good chuckles out of me...the jello molds and the race index cards were good. However, I wasn't completely sold until I watched Healthcare while sitting at the gate waiting for my DC connection. Two words: Hotdog Fingers. I was laughing so hard that some snooty lady got up and moved away from me. By the time Jim locked Dwight in his "workspace," I was head over heels mad for this show.

O.K., Jim too.

Same here, I was a little disappointed at the similarities and hoped that the rest of the season wouldn't be like that. I haven't been disappointed since! So I would have to agree that Diversity Day crushed my fears and made me a die hard fan!
DwightIsMyHero
This is for Steph15, it wasnt Creed who sunk all those 3 pointers at the end of the episode Basketball, it was Kevin...smile.gif
steph15
oops... sorry! Well I knew it was someone. I dont have iTunes so I only watch each episode once.
DwightIsMyHero
^really? that sucks, one time...you should at least try a file sharing program and download the episodes...
melkemper
picked up the show 1/2 way thru season.. it was the George Forman Grill episode. The scene that got me was Dwight tearing out of the parking lot to go pick up Michael.. and he wrecked the car, stumbled out, and puked all over the place... I just about died!!!
TalkAboutStank
In the Pilot, when Jim said the line

"If this were my career, I'd have to throw myself in front of a train."
JenniferJuniper7
I've been watching them on youtube.com. You have to watch them in segments but most episodes are on there. Careful though, it's addicitng. I was watching some last night and then looked at the clock and I had been sitting there for 3 hrs! Oops. No wonder I'm so tired today smile.gif

guys, guys ... everyone can download itunes and watch all the episodes to their heart's content. you don't need an ipod, you don't need a mac. you just need to point your browser to www.itunes.com and follow the instructions from there. no need for illegal filesharing or anythign like that. it's simple and easy.

favorite scenes - nearly always the teasers; favorite episode that got me posting on this board (i watched all via itunes) The Injury. The spray bottle kills me everytime.
ringo4444
Yep, the box scene in The Alliance did it for me too.
grapesoda
I have so many favorite scenes. But I think the one that got me hooked is Pam's Acceptance Speech in The Dundies Episode.
I know that Pam was drunk, but Jenna Fischer did such a great job of pulling it off. For me, it was refreshing to see Pam let go, and have fun. I also love the way the scene starts, with Pam clapping for Kevin's Smelly Bathroom Award. Despite everything, she really does care about Michael's feelings, regardless of how much she hates the dundies. Though hooch always makes me all lovey dovey too.
vbarkley
It was probably Health Care, when Jim and Pam were making up fake diseases. Spontaneous Dentalhydroplosion is even worse than anal fissures.
emmie925
The first scene I ever saw: Andy trying to remember Kit-Kat bar. laugh.gif

"Break me off a piece of that apple-sauce!" rolling.gif
vbarkley
Haha, and I am eating a KitKat right now!!!

I almost said when Jim put the scissors through Dwight's fitness orb, but I'm sure was hooked before then. That was the scene that made me fall off the couch. laugh.gif
Bailey08
I know this is possibley the crudest answer to this question, but it is true. The scene that got me hooked was Dwight and Toby's "Human Anatomy" talk when I watched it spring 2006. I was absolutely stunned (...with laughter) and it was awesome.
DwangelaMinion
Angela: The very best of luck to you, Dwight.
Dwight: Thank you Angela.
Office_holic
This was my first episode and the scene that hooked me at the same time, Diversity Day.
