What an insult to my intelligence! I'm not dissing anyone who is on the show, but NBC for creating it. Anything for the almighty ratings, huh?
You should be ashamed!

Snapping fingers, 8 year old comics, and mediocre singers. Two washed up celebrities and a Simon Cowell wannabe. All I could think about while watching this piece of stinking steaming crap, was that the real talent is over on FOX!!!

i think it's alright that we have a show like this. call it "light entertainment" maybe. i don't exactly care for the judges in this case...but i digress. kinda reminds us of the old "gong show" from years ago. maybe it'll grow on us a little more in time. gotta have a little fun with it i guess. husky

Amerticas got talent? After this show, i doubt it. I have not seen a single outstanding act yet, but the judges seem outrageously enthusiastic. Thats kind of dumb. I wish the judges could be a bit more realistic and just tell these people that they have not got any talent.

Also, how do these people pick these lowsy jugdes, they are all too "sweet" to the contestants. And when they try to be harsh, they stink at it. It is all a big stinker of an act to waste away my night.

That 14 year old girl who sang a whitney houston song was great but for the most part I feel like I'm watching a past episode of THE GONG SHOW from the 80's..Does anyone remember that retarded show?

I saw the show was disappointed by one thing., they say its all about wht talent one has., on the other hand they choose who r more entertaining...?(so r they looking for True Talent Or Entertainment) Example.., they rejected the Bird- parrot who is equally talented compare to performance of the Man with his dogs.., so why they rejected the bird without judging his true talent???? watch the show and find out yourself.

I guess they want acts that are talented AND entertaining. Rapping Granny was a big hit and the a judges said she's what the show is all about. I enjoyed the dogs much more than the parrott. As for judging who should get through I go by the audience reaction.

What the rest of America has to offer before passing final judgement of the show. That was only the west coast talent shown tonight. I'd like to think the rest of the country might just have more to offer as far as talent.

I actually enjoyed the show a lot. Sure, there were some dumb acts but many of them never even had a chance to get going. And many of the acts were very enjoyable and displayed much talent. The judges seemed to be much nicer to the competitors in comparison to other similar type shows. But certain talents were treated like the plague. Juggling for example. They were harder on jugglers than any other type of act.
Also, this is another show that makes you question it's intent. For example: Harry Carrey, the Jim Carrey look alike. He seemed pretty good at inpersonations. While his act needed improving, I do think he has talent, yet he was ousted. Rapping Granny was some what entertaining but I really don't think she has the talent to continue. But I guess we will always have those times when we will disagree with the judges.
I think, like every other show, how can you compare apples to oranges? How can you compare a singer to a dancer? To a juggler? To a ventriloquist? And ultimately, just because some one doesn't win or maybe doesn't continue to the next round, does not mean they do not have talent.
All-in-all, I enjoyed the show a lot. Sadly, some people took the show too seriously and got angry.

I agree with everyone that there were things about the show which I didn't like and I think like all similar shows, needs to be revamped. And yeah, not all acts displayed talent. But I completely disagree that no one on the show had any talent. There were many people on the show last night who displayed talent and some who were simply entertaining. I also felt as if the contestants should have been able to complete their acts and not get gonged or in this case X'd. Not to criticize the Gong Show, I actually found it very entertaining in it's day.
I do think that the talent should be understood as to what the talent is and some mechanism in place for comparing different types of talent. How can you compare a singer's talent to that of a magician? The dog act was very entertaining. But is the talent, the dogs being able to do the acrobatics or the guy for training them? I really enjoyed it and I was glad to see it go through to the next round but again, I question, what was the talent displayed? And as for anyone being able to do this, I know lots of people with lots of dogs and no one has ever gotten their dogs to do anything at all like what was displayed on the show. But does this mean the dogs are talented or the guy?
Rapping Granny was cute and entertaining but I would hardly call her talented. Singers are a dime a dozen but it doesn't make them less talented. Juggling may seem entertaining but there also is talent in juggling. I know that I could not juggle like any of the juggler's on the show. Yet the jugglers were treated as if juggling wasn't a talent. And the magic act even had the judges eyes popping out wondering how it was done. Yet, he almost didn't make it through to the next round. And what makes talent? Is it being able to do something most people can not do or the ability to be able to entertain?
I do agree, a 65 year old man doing a strip tease act may be entertaining to some but really is he displaying any talent?
I have seen several similar shows and while I didn't fully agree with the judges on this show, they were the calmest judges I have ever seen on these kinds of shows. In fact, they seemed to be much more respectful of the contestants. Well, at least at first.
While I am not suggesting that everyone should love this show, just because it wasn't your cup of tea, doesn't make it necessarily junk or mean that no one had any talent. For those who did not enjoy the show, I agree that you should watch something else. Not sure what is wrong with watching a "Lost" rerun unless you don't like "Lost".
But I am surprised at the high criticism of this show. It really wasn't as bad as one would believe after visiting this board. A few tweaks here and there but all-in-all, it was a good show. At least for me.

I'd have to agree with your post. Some of the people here blasting everything yet, they feel the need to post here as to how much they hated it. Who has the time, really? If you don't like the show, there are 500 more channels out there with all the cable/sat options. I enjoyed most of it. I can be critical as I found it to entertaining, but there are some bugs that need to be ironed out.

This is my first post.
Props to NBC for taking on this endeavor.
What irritates me about this show is that it puts too much emphasis on the Judges. I mean, I watched to see talented regular people - not 5 minute biography's of glitz and glamor behind celebrity judges.
Despite the emphasis of celebrity judges credentials, they voted erratically. On one hand, they would honor the roar of the audience (either BOO or Yeah), then they would ignore the audience gester completely and defend their awkward judgement.
The awkward judging couldnt have been more clear when a very-talented puppeteer was immediately rejected by the british judge who ended up changing his mind when he saw the act.
I am afraid this similar stunt is repeated as I see the anger of the talent backstage and even the awe of a very personable Regis Philbin when an evidently well-honed Parrot trainer is X'ed by the overzealous judges.
The reason I post is because this show is a great IDEA. I wanted to see it, I even planned on watching. I wanted to like it. I got bored with the judges who seemed to relish the spotlight a little too much. American Idol gives more voice to the talent. This show gives little, to none.
At least, give the judges some guidelines and tell them to stop trying to be Simon Vs. Paula on American Idol, and to be REAL LIFE judges with less emphasis on ego.
Just wanted to put my observation in and hoping I can enjoy the next episode.

Yes, the juggler should be seen again. By the world.
Yes, there were lots of genuinely talented individuals who were very unprofessionally squelched on the part of the two (male) "rogue" judges who base many of their statements on a "what-I-like-basis" instead of a "what-was-it-basis".
(Even if some of the contestants were plants, the basic format and directing policy remain inappropriate nonetheless.)
Something for sure. I was so amazed that the English judge would ring the other judges' gong-bells for them, and that he does not have any respect for talent that he cannot appreciate. For example, the grande gentleman who came onto the stage to play a musical saw was a class act, represented a genre of real and folk talent (esp. U.S.), and knew why he came onto the show - to make the statement which he did.
Secondly, this show has been partially crafted for the purpose of entertaining mean-spirited elements of the viewing audience. How about that.
I would like to re-affirm the aspect of lacking ability to appreciate certain genres of Americana on the part of the British judge. Because he totally squelches and dishonors such presentations with which he is not familiar - this indicates clearly that his judgements are what-I-like-based instead of talent-based. How about that.
Therefore, for certain of the performers to have been treated rudely by the two male judges, esp. by the British judge, does categorize the program as being a rogue sensation and a socially vicious entertainment.
Therefore, I was particularly offended at the dishonor so blatently and callously manifested against certain of the performers - and who were very skilled within their particular category of talent.
Another example was the very mean-spirited treatment against the trainer of the parrot. Even her trade and expertise were decried by the unknowledeable "judge" as being nothing.
Another example of street-urchin treatment against a very entertaining and honorable guest-personality was the very dishonorable insult leveled by D. Hasselhoff against the clothing of the acrobatist (white; very sustainable and in-synch part of the artist's expression). It was definable as a scamp insult against an artist, and it was committed within the setting of judging a performance. I was indeed apalled that this "professional slander" was performed to the artist's face and also before the world. I am certainly no fan of such a despicable and ungodly-proud personality.
All in all, then, the judgement calls and behaviors of the two male judges have been unprofessional because of their "this-is-what-I-like-personally" comments. What they like personally has little to do with a professional judgement or commentary upon a performance: especially if a performance is (1.) allowed for only a matter of seconds AND (2.) if a performance has a universal element of repudable and genre-based soundness.
But things are as they are. Not for long, all ye American or otherwise blokes.
The female judge is more sociably stable and reliable in her comments than are her fellow-judges.
It is true that, nowadays, millions of dollars can be made through a vicious and dishonorable format, such as "Survivor", which plays upon political back-stabbing. Such is the general category of this show, "America's Got Talent": especially because of the two male judges. Neither one of them have a broad enough range of human experience in appreciation to do justice to their jobs as judges of talent.
I do not care for the show because of the personalities and professionalism of the two male judges and will therefore be glad to see this show cancelled. I hope it disappears soon. Perhaps it will not.
Perhaps society and life as we know it now will also soon disappear. How about that. It is sad.
But I'd be willing to make a cheap one-sawbuck bet that neither of these two rogue judges are on the intake about anything. How about that.
