How many people think the third grade comedian was not funny and her mother should be embarrassed?

I though she was funny, and I hope she goes far.

Well, I think she was funny, spunky, smart, and adorable. I think your post is kinda dumb, though. Should YOUR mother be embarassed? (It's not that I think she should be embarassed, I'm just following your logic here).

i thought she was kinda cute at first, but a minute after she opened her mouth, that all changed. shame she had to turn insulting and obnoxious. made me sicker to see the judges fawning all over her. could have told better jokes to fit her age and not been mean.

Exactly my point the mother knew what she was going to say. How do you let your third grader get on national TV and say "If I see another fat Black lady in a size 2 dress, i'm going to die"? Cute little girl...poor guidance, and you are right the judges should have corrected her.

Hmmm, you have a point. I guess I stand corrected now that you explained your point. I can admit when I'm wrong!

For her age, I think her performance in trying to tell jokes is good enough to get my vote. For one, she's adorable, cute, and has charisma. She writes her own jokes, and for her age.. (without limits or worries about being politicly correct), I think she actually has potential with the audience that hopes she will make it far. There's no doubt that she has talent (performing on stage trying to be a comedian). And even if she doesn't make it as a comedian in her early performing career, I believe she will turn out to be a very good actor/movie star;)

She was totally hillarious!! Give her a break--she is 8 after all. But she had natural carisma and a sense of timing with personality that can take her far.

Jun 22 2006, 12:19 AM
She wasn't adorable either...I found her obnoxious. I may be old fashioned, but 8 year old girls shouldn't act like 46 year old Rosie O'Donnells. Dakota Fanning...that's a talented little lady!!!!

Precocious kids are a dime a dozen. I saw this kid on some other show like two years ago doing the same shtick and I think they said she was eight then too.

I thought she was somewhat cute and talented but her jokes seemed inappropriate for a third grader (anyone remember the first bit??)... Either way she obviously has talent, and if she peruses it she will succeed but I don't think it will happen in this competion...

I just checked it out, and Sid the Kid was on the that's so raven show. She did the same act. I thought this was unsigned talent as well.

Jun 22 2006, 10:28 AM
I thought that she was funny, UNTILL I found out that she used the very same act on Disney's "Thats So Raven". She needs to get some real talent and stop reciting lines that a writer on a TV show wrote.

I thought she was cute, but was shocked at some of the things she said. I didn't think they were appropriate. My young daughter thought she was funny though. She had seen her before on That's So Raven though.

Jun 22 2006, 11:23 AM
Not only was she not funny, but her act with her mother "acting surprised" was so staged. Did not the girl practice her act with her Mother before going on stage? Also, the judges "acting" like this was the best comedy they had seen was unbelievable. After this "act" I turned off the show.

HER MATERIAL WAS TOTALY OUT OF HER AGE GROUP. Also...NOTE... this girl is a professional..she was on Thats So RAVEN. THE SAME SKIT even. my eight year old daughter picked it out right away. Shows a scam

Jun 22 2006, 12:29 PM
Why does it make the show a scam, just because the performers have used their acts before ? How else do you expect people to further develop their skills ? And as for her being inapropriate, that's just ridiculous. Just because someone is a female, young, and cute that doesn't require them to be sweet. She was funny as all hell and I think that was her intention. Jesus we let little girls dress up like Bratz [censored] dolls for Halloween and watch Britney Spears, but a few jokes are inapropriate ?

I was highly OFFENDED by not only her "material" but the way the judges and audiences found her racial remarks "hilarious". I was watching with my 6 year old and turned. If she made comments about Jewish women I wonder if she would gotten the same accolades.

Ok so if she made racial remarks about Jewish women or Caucasian woman, would it have been so funny????????????

Politically correct?????? That is ridiculous, so it is OK to say mean and offensive things to/about people????? Such a shame!
GlamMommy
Jun 22 2006, 01:02 PM
Jesus would not want her being mean to or offending anyone. Would it have been funny if she went after Jewish women???????????????????????????????????????????? Or is it OK to only slam "women of color"
bittersweet1981
Jun 22 2006, 02:36 PM
If Jesus was watching prime time TV I think he would have bigger things to be horrified by. And I think it's clear that her jokes were not coming from a place of hate. And as for jokes about Jewish, and White people those are everywhere ! Comedians often draw from stereotypes, because it can be funny. Lots of people have the ability to laugh at themselves. I realize sometimes comedians can cross the line from funny to offensive, which should be avoided. But people also shouldn't be so uptight.

Do you find it necessary to bring bejesus into this? And why are you striking a chord with the Jewish community? It is almost anti-semetic and racist for you to always use the same rant about Syd and her blasting her Mom's big booty. I thought that she was funny and current. Jeez. Bejesus.

I didn't think that she was "funny" at all. And shame on the Judges for the way they acted. This is why kids grow up, ignorant of themselves, and their attitudes towards others. Many in the audiance seemed shocked, and not in a positive way, and the "mocked" expression of "surprise" on her mothers face was just kind of stupid looking.
Hope the "kid" hits the skids soon.
JerseyGirl40
Jun 26 2006, 03:37 AM
You missed "GlamMommy's" point. She is not raving about Jewish people. It was an example. This kid did not make a joke about her mother's big booty. She make an inapproporate remark about all Black women and her ignorant mother, who is Afr Amer, acted like her act was sooooo funny.
This child was neither funny or entertaining. She recycled all her material from adult comedy acts. What 8-yr-old needs her rent paid? Why does she care about grown Black women in tight dresses? You could hear this same verbiage on Comic View and Def Jam. Sid was not original and her delivery was awful. And what was the deal with saying she was half-Black? I guess she thought that gave her the right to insult this entire group of people. The audience gasped when she slammed Black women and didn't laugh for the last 30 seconds of her act. Then air-headed Brandy tells her how great she was. What an idiot. Did Brandy forget she was Afr Amer? Probably so.
Sid's mother needs to get a clue. Why does she let her daughter deliver such venom? I'm embarassed for both of them.

I found her routine interesting, but not funny. Mostly because of the reference to "fat black women." Making fun of people is not a good role model for other children!

Jun 27 2006, 01:38 PM
Lets face it most comedy is based on stereotypes. Often they way comedians get around being offensive is by picking on a group they themselves belong to. For examply Chris Rock and the Afr American community, Jerry Seinfeld and the Jewish community. I just think it's ridiculous to slam this girl for doing exactly what the majority of comedians do.

I agree with PoeticPoker. Syd is adorable AND talented. She walked out on that stage and captured the audience like she's been doing it for 30 years. Awesome stage presence. Her material is relevant and fine. Thank God she's NOT politically correct.
Go Syd!

Yes, she was on "That's So Raven", my daughter's favorite show. She played a troubled kid, who...ironically..."wanted to be a comedian". I thought that she looked familiar, and then my 14 year old told me who she was. She also used the some of the same lines, that was in the show. Even my 14 year old noticed that, too. She should not be allowed to go on any farther...it is not fair to the other contestants.

It's not that it's not fair to the other contestants, it's that she has already had a chance at the big time. She needs to grow up some and get some new and much better material. Obviously the jokes she has are old and have been done to death.

She was not funny in the slightest. Her routine basically translated to "boys have cooties and my mother dresses funny." The only reason she got through was because it was somehow cute, and people will continue to vote for her for that same reason.
If there's any justice in this competition, they'll have her face off directly against Bianca. If someone is going to get by just by being cute, it should be someone that has talent.

Okay, I've seen a lot of posts on this board really hatin' on this little 8 year old girl!!! GEEEEZZZ!!! In fact, some of it has been really downright HATEFUL AND THREATNENING!!! HELLLLOOOO????? She's ONLY 8 YEARS OLD!!!! Now that I got that out, here are my thoughts:
- whether you agree or disagree with her material, this 8 year old girl had the guts to go in front of hundreds of people with cameras all around and expose herself completely to potential ridicule. That's confidence!!!
- stand up comedy is one of the most difficult art forms to master. It usually takes a comedian years to perfect their "set", which consists of using the same material over and over.
- if you know anything about television, they do a lot of EDITING for all shows, which means "CUTTING" of scenes. If you look really close, you can catch where they cut every contestant's performance. The point being, her performance had to have been good enough for the judge's reaction and the STANDING OVATION FROM THE AUDIENCE.
- anyone who knows anything about the entertainment industry knows that being on one or two episodes of a television show doesn't mean that you've "made" it. It means just that - you've been on one or two episodes and it looks like you're pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.
- in fact, the majority of the contestants on this show are professionals in their field, which is some form of "entertainment". I can name a few: Bianca Ryan has been on Star Search(made it to the finals), The Tom Joyner Show, and has performed all over the Tri-State area. Vivian Smallwood AKA Rappin' Granny has a long list of shows that she's been on. Bobby Badfingers has an already successful Vegas act. At Last has a CD out and a record deal. Kevin Johnson also has an already successful career as a ventriloquist....we can go on and on, but hopefully you get my point.
My closing thoughts: Enjoy the show for what it is. Give your opinion, but don't pass judgement.

Yes but if she was going on a talent show she should try to master her art first.
