Blue Velvet Rules - Judges incompetent
I can't believe the judges dismissed Blue Velvet with barely letting them get out 2 notes. Yet in their infinite wisdom they let the finger snapper and horn honker (and other inane acts) move on to the next round. IDIOTS! I've been a fan of Blue Velvet here in San Diego for almost 7 years. Blue Velvet is incredible. I love you Kevin, Miss Fran, Miss Debra and the former Miss Sophie. Keep singing your hearts out. Your fans in San Diego love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If America has talent, that is more than can be said for the show's producers and the incredibly rude judge with a Hitler complex. The one that kept talking over judges Brandy and David and sought to terminate acts by pressing their buzzers. The judging was disorganized, random and chaotic. The judges had no sense of timing or rhythm. I've never seen anything so disorganized, especially the post audition where alternately performers bantered, heckled, argued and explained. Heck why not, when one of many jugglers failed to impress the judges with his performance, he won a reprieve with his debating talent.
The way some performers were treated was indecent. Notably Blue Velvet's act was terminated before it had even begun. Obviously the producers set no standard minimum time and the judges had no standards period.
I hope the network and sponsors will remind the American public what the term "Swan Song" means by telling the producers and judges not to come back. The viewers surely won't.

I think NBC has some explaining to do. This site has a video of Blue Velvet playing WITHOUT all 3 celebs buzzing them at first. And if you look, it looks like the celebs are there. But Regis says "the celebs don't know what's coming". Obviously they do. So what happened here? Is this show a fake? I love this show, but stuff like this can't be happening if it's going to be taken seriously.

It's kind of fun seeing what blue velvet would have done had they not been gonged out right away. Actually after talking to some of my friends I think I know what happened. This act was heavily edited out. If you go back and look at the TV version, the screen freezes while the next 2 X's are lighting up. Then they zoom in to where they are in a totally different part of the song. So yeah... I guess they didn't get a rehersal. BUT the judges did NOT X them out immediately. So you guys complaining that the judges didn't give the acts a chance, actually it's the editing guys that didn't give them a chance.

I would like an explanation on this too. The previews for the show had Blue Velvet performing their music, but then on the show they were X'd before even getting off the ground.
I've seen this band perform live in San Diego, California. Their act is par excellence, I was shocked by what happened on the show last night.
I found their music on an MP3 site with Google, give it a listen.

I saw the previews for this show and it showed Blue Velvet performing their act. There was some editing involved to have them terminated before they even began.

Maybe the clip you saw was filmed during the long rehearsals they had prior to the show..

They are better than some than went through but you know the *hack hack * judges would not allow them through so they had to axe them quickly before they got the audience on thier side.

I was a contestant who performed on the show (whose segment did not air)and met the Blue Velvet trio - in the holding area, the keyboardist actually played our song and helped us rehearse. Great folks, and Regis was riffing during the breaks about their orange outfits contrasted with "Blue Velvet" - They did their intro "Blue Velvet..." and (this was chopped out on TV) sang a good minute of "Do You Know The Way to San Jose?" The judges and audiences liked them for the most part (great harmonies) but Piers found them a bit old fashioned for this contest. He challenged them to play an original composition which was a bit off color and the audience didn't like it - but before that the judges were on the fence. The way it came off on the actual show was different than it went down in person. Looks like the quick three x's was edited in. I think the editors have more control over this show than anyone.

That's sad though because a show like this shouldn't be edited maliciously. If the judges didn't think they were that bad, they shouldn't have been protrayed that way on TV. But I guess they're just going to do what makes for the best entertainment and laughs. Personally I found it so funny when they got x'ed out after that intro. Now it isn't so funny knowing it wasn't true.
Oh well. I guess this confirms that they're not truely looking for the best talent. They're looking to put together the best / funniest show they can find. I will still watch because it makes for great humor. But it takes a little away from the show.

But at the same time, the judges heard the opening intro of a rather horrid harmony, and kowingg the judges musical background (sadly, Hasselhoff was/is a pop icon in Germany) they didn't feel the need to listen any further. Perhaps in actuality, Blue Velvet should have nixed the intro and opted for a different approach to letting every one know who they were.
and they are actually pretty good. :/

Yesiree.
Now hear this, NBC: America has been offended. By your directing policy.
NBC and lots of other entertainment entities think they know "America" and about freedom and values, but in gross naivete, have sponsored a get-rich-quick scheme at the expense of America's values and character. Wow.
What? Such highly paid and "high-powered" executives / professionals think that there is no harm in this.
They have never heard of "What goes around comes around"?
Oh! They have heard it before!!
Yep, we need to stick to the basics, folks.

I'm the guy that was almost allowed to play the saw. Sadly enough my performance was not edited. What they showed is exactly what happened. The part they did edit was after they buzzed my 5 seconds performance they made me stand there while the judges made uninformed comments like Brandy said "It was different, we weren't expecting that" and Piers tried to humiliate and embarrass me. I didn't respond liked they hoped, I stood there and took it so they had nothing accept them being unreasonable and unfair and me being polite. I knew what they were doing and also knew I couldn't control what they did but I could control what I did so I gave them nothing. I think it worked out better for me this way than if I actually played my speculated two minutes. Now everybody hates them and likes me.

Blue Velvet knew, going into this competition, that we were not going to be everyone's cup of english tea.
But the truth of the matter is that as individuals and as a group, BLUE VELVET HAS TALENT.
I created BV over ten years ago as a vehicle to make a living as an entertainer playing "cover songs" and originals while presenting them in a retro 60's lounge act. This act has had maybe 8 months off collectively
in the last seven years of performing in San Diego and southern California. I have and still work as a solo
act playing piano/singing and still do the clubs at least two nights a week while fitting in local radio, recording,
songwriting and a 40 hour work week.
We have been sent too many posts from the internet saying our singer hit the wrong note on the last "BLUE VELVETTTTT" before we were buzzed. THAT IS SOOOOOOOO INCORRECT!!!! Anyone with a true musical ear will know that she frickin' NAILED it! Fran Hartshorn is an extraordinary singer with the largest scope of voice ability that has been trained in pop, jazz and opera. She, when not working with Blue Velvet, still performs in opera and by far could kick tail on ANY of the upstarts on this show that got thru this competition!
I, myself - having directed musical theatre, choirs and dinner shows FOR YEARS! - have never worked with a more
polished and gifted voice. Fran Hartshorn IS a real talent.
And Ms. Deborah Stokes has been the backbone of BLUE VELVET for over ten years. Her musical pitch is perfect and unwavering and sense of harmony is heaven sent. Deborah and I have performed together as a duo as well and she is ALWAYS dead on with her voice, sense of musical placement and charisma that is constantly first loved by our fans and supporters. ALWAYS A PRO!!!!!!!!
So contrary to how this show would like us to be depicted as the bumbling, overdressed to the party step-sister of William Hung - WE ARE NOT! We are three trained, gifted and WORKING! professionals who are very disappointed that we were not given half a bird shot of letting America know that BLUE VELVET has something new to offer to american entertainment. Our audiences have and still let US know that! And we will continue despite NBC's "replaced" summer series. Our love of music,HONEST folks and entertaining
will not

Hi Kevin! Personally I felt it was a bit unfair that the judges didn't give Blue Velvet a chance. I was really interested in seeing what BV had to bring to the table.
I am really curious about your act. Trying to do a Google search wasn't very promising. Do you have a site/and or video online that showcases your talent? I feel you diserve more than the few seconds you got.

You are an artist.......I have a bud who plays the theramin and like the saw and the sounds it makes - it takes friggin talent! This show wanted diverse and dynamic new things to see on TV and that is how the show has failed. It is American Idol that has opened up the age bracket!!!!!! And they are not presenting anything NEW other than novelty acts that will get noticed for 9 minutes.......

In other words, they wanted you to do what the guy that played the nose flute did.
NBC still apparently hasn't learned what makes American Idol so successful. They fixed, edited and distorted Last Comic Standing, and from the sounds of things, their approach with America's Got Talent is the same tenfold.
I've been thinking about forming a group on Yahoo or Youtube exclusively for LCS video auditions that were given the axe before they even had a chance, namely the comedians that auditioned by video. Maybe we could branch that open for America's Got Talent mistreatments too.

In the thread entitled "Blue velvet. . . without the immediate buzzer??" someone that auditioned claims that Blue Velvet actually gave a full performance which the audience and two of the judges liked, but Pierc challenged them to perform an original, which I guess they didn't do so well with.
In other words, NBC already starting up with that unfair editing.

I agree completely! They didn't even let them sing except for one note each! That note didn't sound too great but they could have actually gotten better as the song went along! Wasn't they starting without music too? That's really hard to do! The dancing cow was just retarded and (like one of the judges said) was a waste of time!

Blue Velvet did hit the wrong note. If everyone has been telling you that, stop justifying yourselves and correct it. I don't doubt that you are professionals. I too worked as a professional in the industry and I had my nights, good and bad. Whether out of nerves or what, your singer was off-key, and you can't blame the judges for not giving you a chance. They have too many acts to judge to allow even one small mistake. Keep practicing and try again next season. I intend to, since I didn't even make it to the beginning TV auditions. Count yourselves lucky that you got that far.
