Full Version: Jugglers...but no footbag
NBC > Reality > America's Got Talent
Schuler
I've seen a few jugglers on the show and some weren't even very impressive yet they got let on anyway. Footbag, aka hacky-sack hasn't even been shown or been aired at all. I heard of a guy who tried out and said he went dropless with his routine.

As far as i know he hasn't recieved a phone call back so he probably won't be aired even though getting good at footbag is harder than juggling. What is the deal are they trying to shun footbag from the competition?
Penguin888
Because Hacky Sack is so much easier than Juggling. If you hacky sack with about 7 [censored] at once, i'll be impressed. but hacky sack in itself is easy.
Schuler
Footbag is one of the hardest sports i've ever played, and very impressive to watch good players in my opinion. Consecutive kicking is the easy part. Tricks are another story.

Go watch some videos of great or even good players and tell me it is easy.

It is fun and something everyone can relate to, but not a talent that could entertain for a prolonged period of time. It doesn't have that WOW FACTOR. Unless maybe the sacks are lit on fire or something like that. rolleyes.gif It probably would work for the video talent entries that you send into the NBC boards while the show is going on or the crazy talent entry they had at the end. I'd guess every professional soccer player in America is a professional hacky sack player too!!!!

and what makes you think that a mediocre juggler has the WOW factor? if you've ever seen a good shred circle playing footbag downtown or in any crowded area, you will see massive crowds gather to watch whats going on. why? because its an amazing sport they've never seen before. it does have that WOW factor, or else no one would care to watch and just walk on by. i agree its not a sport that can be watched for hours on end, but what sport is? i actually enjoy watching people play footbag more than i like playing, because its inspiring, and you can learn better techniques and styles from the better players. and no, not all soccer players play, they're two different sports; one involves kicking around a ball, passing, scoring goals, winning, and teamwork. the other involves keeping a bag up in the air for a long period of time, hard work and practice for hours on end, style, grace, and strength. they both have to do with feet, but they're totally different. im not saying soccer is a bad sport, because its obviously the most played sport in the world and theres no competing with it, but don't compare it to footbag like anyone can play it. they're both hard in my opinion, but not in the same way. like badminton and tennis kind of. and also, the footbag i'm talking about isnt played with a crappy beanbag by guys wearing skateboard shoes and baggy pants acting ghetto and kicking it up 3 times and dropping it, saying "aw man that was awesome" if you're even going to bother arguing against me or reply to this, WATCH THE VIDEOS I POSTED UP THERE, I didn't put them up there for show and tell. and again, the sport is called footbag, not HACKY SACK. that's part of the problem, people hear about hacky sack and think about "a crappy beanbag played with by guys wearing skateboard shoes and baggy pants acting ghetto and kicking it up 3 times and dropping it, saying "aw man that was awesome"

Watched the videos...exactly what I expected dude[u]. You are talented in what you do. Try out for the show if you believe you can fill the stage.
bored12345
im not in any of those videos. nor am i good enough to get onto the show. i can barely do a couple 4 add moves. im not good enough to fill the stage just yet. but that doesnt mean someone else cant. im just defending the guy that started this thread and trying to get people to understand exactly what the sport is (Penguin888). haha too bad like vasek isnt american or something, he puts on great performances. sometimes they're funny, but they're always entertaining. a footbagger wouldn't necessarily win, but thats not the point. most footbaggers have a common goal to achieve acceptance of footbag as a legitimate competitive sport. thats why i was arguing so much in this thread. not because i like arguing ;)

A nice place to showcase a talent is www.AGTForum.com if your interested. It is a place where people interested in this show gather and share info.

Audition's and on air performances are limited to 90 seconds, which is probably why he was cut off at 1 1/2 minutes.

As I'm sure you've noticed, most of the jugglers didn't make it very far on the show and the one's that did were also funny.

Foot bag is sport more than it is entertainment. It most definely takes skill to be masterful at it, but most sports do. Were a footbagger to incorporate some humorous banter into his performance, of add a sense of danger (like flaming footbags) he might stand a better chance than a mediocre juggler.

Something I noticed about the videos is that they are all collections of 5 to 10 second clips and all limited to 3 or 4 kicks. All of them are impressive, but not particularly entertaining. If I saw someone doing that on the street, I might stop to watch for a minute or so, but I wouldn't pay to do so unless they were doing something else too. Footbagging (and juggling for that matter) can be pretty repetative and boring by themselves. Having more than one footbagger can add a little excitement, but then it's a competition rather than an act. If an footbag act is to be successful it really needs the "performers" to be entertaining as well as skilled.

Do you know of any videos of a single performance that are 90 seconds or more?

I agree that some hacky sack would be a good addition to the show. They were cut off at 90 seconds, though, because that's the limit for all of the acts. It's on NBC's website.
