Carol,

Sorry, I didn't get your message until today.

Thanks you so very much for your generous gift of Bailey's. It was so nice of you to leave that for me. I had forgotten how great that stuff is.

Wow, you sure picked a good day to come to the show. Wasn't Bruce great? And I thought Thomas Haden Church and Jimmy Fallon were really funny, too.

I hope you had a good trip back to Ireland. Thanks again very much!

Brian

HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT!!!!

OH MY GOD...that is an actual e-mail from BRIAN FREAKING STACK??????? ::SQUEALS::
He is the nicest man! I can't believe he e-mailed you a thank you note! His momma done raised him right! (insert very girly 'awww" here.) There is a reason he is my favorite writer on "Late Night."

He's so sweet! And you got to shake Conan's hand...maybe I should make all my font green from now on...

Conan should have more skits featuring Stack/McCann. If Conan wants to be in them too, that's OK.

I think you mean sketches with both Stack & McCann. Yes that'd be great to see more of. It's usually one of the Brians in sketches but not both, which I think has to do with who writes things. Though in the "Conan Can't Waste Any Time" sketch they were both involved and that was awesome. biggrin.gif And I also love whenever Stack/Conan are in sketches together.

Yes, and have you noticed how Conan now frequently mentions "he can't waste any time"? Loved that sketch where Stack kept having Conan hit with bricks and the McCann sketch where he was the oldest Western stunt man and slowly fell down the steps (after being shot by Max), fell against a brick wall which was supposed to partially collapse (but failed to function), so he punched it out with his fist. laugh.gif

yes I have noticed that. And I love when he makes fun of Jeff too when Jeff apparently makes the "move it along" hand signal. laugh.gif I hope Conan NEVER stops wasting time though.

I loved those sketches too. There's alot of recurring themes with bricks! cool.gif

I'd also like to say I love that we now have 3 different threads going about Brian Stack. tongue.gif He's quite possibly the most legendary Conan writer of all time.

Well, I think I would have been about to say "Cash or Credit" as I was punching away the card, but it's free, er, freeeeee. But knowing Wikipedia, it'll only be a matter of time before some troll comes along and deems B-Stack's page "non-notable" and tries to get it deleted. mad.gif And then the edit war begins. (The Wikipedia also calls Jack Paar "Jacques Paar", and that's just wrong.) But it's good to see that some knowledgeable person (VERY knowledgeable) has posted B-Stack's life story there for our voyeuristic pleasure--woot!

Yes, I have to assume that "Jacques" is vandalism, because I've never in any of my readings seen JP's first name spelled that way. That's just one of the big problems associated with Wikipedia. As for people not liking B-Stack, you'd be amazed what the jerks on that site don't like and take out their vengeance upon. I got sick of the constant back and forth and abandoned Wikipedia forever.

Yet they're both wicked? I wonder--B/Stack and JP never struck me as similar--let's take this back to the "Conan's Successor" thread... [mwa ha ha]

Maybe Wikipedia does fall short when it comes to personalities, but for technology it's great -- also history, geography and medical -- lots of other topics, too.

Was, mi amigo, was. I never actually registered, and I'm kind of glad I didn't--I went around making small additions to make it, you know, factual, especially about things I know about, but then I realized that people were reverting it all and turning it back into tabloid journalism nonsense. I guess I just got disgusted with it. I still look every once in a while, but unfortunately it'll take a braver soul than I to make Jack Jack again. WP does have some interesting stuff on it on certain topics, and I still use it as a first-line reference for pop-culture things, some medical stuff too. Even if it isn't right, it can point you in a good direction to find the answer. So I can't completely trash it. I just can't bear to see my (hardly rigorous) work go up in smoke. sad.gif

Poor Jack. You were never French, and Jay was never a Muir-Leno, either.

There WAS a French connection on the Paar show -- he was called 'Jacques' by Genevieve, a charming French girl who was a 'regular' on the show. And as far as 'regulars' go, Jonny Winters did his best work ever on that show -- those who never saw Jonny at that time don't know what he is capable of -- slipping in and out of characters and so funny, everyone loved Jonny. Too bad we don't have more tapes of the old Paar shows because no one has ever been funnier than Winters (including Robin Williams who was inspired by Jonny). dry.gif

New Summer Characters:

Kurt Jabecki, an impressionist, was marched off to prison last night after doing his impression of two people he had killed (as he was killing them) -- the first a person who had wronged him in highschool (a vindictive killing) and the second a postman who inadvertently discovered the first murder (an unfortunate but necessary killing). Did Kurt do wrong? Do two wrongs make a right? When the dust settles, will the punishment fit Kurt's crime? As the policeman led him away, Kurt said, "Those were very good impressions" and in his art, Kurt gave us his unforgettable imitations of life (rather, the violent loss of life).

Kurt! Kurt! How you will now suffer for your art. sad.gif
Pernod
"Frankenstein the Opera" (new show on Broadway) ....
"Ah ha ha ha ha hah .... Ah un ha ha ha hah" .... yes you're right, the "Ride of the Valkyries" as 'ha ha hunned' by our very own Frankenstein wearing Conan's hand-me-down viking helmet from the 'Can't waste any time' skit, sporting a cape and waving a sword, only to be cut short by a bolt of lightning which caused Frankie to become unglued, bringing the ill-fated production to a close. Conan's comment: "So stupid!"

On a brighter note, during 'Conan on the Aisle' showing a scene from "The Devil wears Prada", a hoity-toity Devil strutted by wearing Chanel boots ("you bet your burro", said he) and a Prada fur cape over his traditional skin-tight red outfit. (The Devil was NOT played by Stack)
Conan's comment: "That is one cool Downtown Devil!".

On a side note, it became apparent there are things going on (more or less) under the table at late night when Conan's under-the-desk web cam was exposed by none other than a member of the audience (Brian McCann).
Conan's comment: "That's terrible, why are they (NBC) doing that?"

Brian McCall is Brian McCann's stand-in -- you can't tell them apart just by looking at them, they have to go by fingerprints. It's simply amayzing that two people could be so identical, not only in appearance but also comic abillities.

The Adventure of the "Diablo Foo's" ....
OR "Much Fuss about Nothing"

Leave it to the Devil to stick his foot in the door and horn in on Conan's 'how to beat the heat' sketch. Plugging his really hot new pan-Asian sushi bar "Diablo Foo's" in the heart of the trendy meat packing district of Greenwich Village, the Devil tried to curry favor with Conan for an appearance to generate celebrity buzz. When Conan refused, the Devil, who doesn't like being crossed, disappeared in a smokey cloud staving off his identity, threatening Conan, saying, "You'll regret this O'Brien, Farewell!"

Refuting the Devil, Conan asked the musical (I mean rhetorical) question: "Where'd he go?"

Oh my! Stack is dressed the same as when he told the story with the bricks, only now he's in a rainbow wig. I can imagine him speaking in a HAL-9000 monotone and threatening Conan with his story which strangely comes to life ("I could tell a story Conan"), with C. Gausas as a man and an off-camera brick hurler. Was he in the same character when he did this bit? Somebody spread the love and let someone without cable know!

Is it a haystack, or a refurbished Stack O'Bricks? (Look everybody! I just christened the character, but not the same way C. Gausas pulled a Crying Game on Conan! That "Christin"-ing was ambigu-tastic!)
