At a dog show, many of the dogs in the "second round" (i.e. the Group judging) will be coming under a different judge than the "first round" (the Best of Breed judging), and for the final Best in Show round will have a third judge.

Why couldn't there be a different panel of judges to select from the Semi-final round groups, (wow! a whole new set of judges to malign) and then let the audience polls select the winner.

They won't do this of course because the audience might select the best act, instead of the most profitable act for the network.

On the other hand, mob voting tends to produce mediocrity. But what the hey, we're the ones financially supporting the sponsors of the show.
