Wasn't Devon in only the Halloween episode? I thought firing him was a cheap way out of the problem.
Introduce a new character so he can be fired. It's like in the old Star Trek, if you saw a guy in a red shirt
who went to school, with Kirk, then you KNEW he would fall into a hole or get vaporized.

Also, why would Michael get $3,000 just for firing somebody? Or was something else at play?

Michael had to fire somebody by the end of October to reduce their headcount and increase efficiency at the branch. Obviously they wrote in Devon as a one-shot character for this purpose.

It seems Michael got a year-end bonus for improving efficiency at the branch. It's really not uncommon for managers to get bonuses even in lean times, even though some people wouldn't think that was fair.

Devon appears in other episodes, usually sitting at his desk making sales calls, but in the Diversity Day episode, he is given the West Nile index card for his forehead. Also, in the Dundies episode, he is seated with the others and Dwight admonishes him to keep his acceptance speech short.

Devon was in quite a few episodes, but he only had lines in Halloween. You saw him in The Fire, hanging out with everyone outside. If you look at season one, and before the Halloween episodes, you see him sitting at his desk.

he just didnt play a huge role

again, my dismay at this great episode not having alot of 'airtime' on the board!

My favorite scene was Creed adjusting his fake vampire teeth when Michael called him in to 'attempt' to fire him. And when Devon ripped up the gift card and Michael attempted to pick up the pieces.

GENIUS

This was such a great episode on so many levels and yet I think it is very often overlooked. I think it's because it has a lot of subtle qualities about it. And I also think it really effectively put Michael in a softer light, especially at the end. I can't blame him for not wanting to fire someone. He had to do the dirty work and and feel the repercussions for it, even if it wasn't his decision. I guess being a boss isn't all fun and games.

The Deleted scenes are great for this episode.

I'm going to rewatch tonight and take notes smile.gif

This is IT?!?!?!

wow, this episode deserves more than this!!

I love the part after Dwight has insulted the person offering him a job, and then asks when he'll tell him if he got it.

Oh Dwight. Never good with the job hunt.

it's crazy how small this board must have been in the beggining. I've only known it as huge and overwhelming as it is now!

wow there are really not many comments on these poor little guys

well three hole punch Jim was awsome!

I love when Devon smashes the pumpkin on Michaels car! That's probably the best part of the episode. That or Dwight yelling at Michaels 'head'. laugh.gif

Yeah, with the snow-scraper! laugh.gif

What did you think of Creed at first? I didn't really like him (he made a perfect vampire though). I didn't find him funny, and frankly, I still don't think he's that funny.

laugh.gif He was so creative with his "costume"!

I'm planning to be three hole punch snogging_staplers for Halloween this year! I've bought a simple white button-down, and I'm going to borrow my boyfriend's black tie.

That would be funny. The cool thing about that: only office flans will get it! laugh.gif Then you'll get to meet all the cool office flans!

I'd have to say that my favorite scene from Halloween is the last scene with Michael sitting alone in his condo and looking very somber, then how he lights up when the trick or treaters come to his door. I just love this side of Michael Gary Scott. What a great character!

See, me too. I felt so sad for him and then he bounces back. It's so simple and yet so charming and beautiful.
scottyskater77
It really shows how much of a child he still is. He gets along great with kids because that's the way his mind acts.

I wanted Devon to do a scene lie in Half Baed when the guy quit his job and said, "F you , F you, F you, you're cool, F you, Im out."

I love how we see Devon later in NYC as a homeless guy. was that Valentine's Day?

My favorite part was Michael and Dwight talking to Michael's second head. That is so classic, with Dwight's hood pulled down... that was when I started telling my students (6th graders) that I am a Sith Lord. They think its funny.

i watched this episode last night an I have to say the Jam moments are priceless. I hate how jims heart breaks when pams tells him he should go after that job.

Is that the first time we see Stanley laugh in a episode??

I thought Jim was silly for actually getting mad at Pam for the suggestion that he get a better paying job. Jeesh. God forbid he betters himself!

Now that he and Pam are together, he can start working on that aspect of himself now- I hope. Wonder if that job is still open? wink.gif

I think he's funny! He's like the creepy, weird old guy who everyone is afraid of because of his absurd behavior.

Remember when they replaced Creed's apple with a potato and he ate it without noticing?

haha! Was that Ryan who did that, or Jim? I forget...
