We have never heard Toby's last name until The Convetion where Jim and Micheal were at the buffet... Flenderson... did anyone else catch this?
mrs. big tuna
Is this really his last name? It sounds like he's mocking him, but how is that insulting? It just sounds like a made-up name.
Newton_MA
i bet tobys wife divorced him because she couldnt stand the name anymore

i wouldnt blame her
tayvannguyen
I did when I saw it on Wikipeida ohmy.gif
Angela_Martin
Lol i was wondering about that, i've been looking for a last name!
ilovepam
It is a possible, yet wierd, last name...

I know! We learned something new about Toby!! How excited are we? These writers...gotta love 'em! They just keep peeling back the layers of that onion, letting us learn little tidbits each and every week.

I posted my discovery of Toby's last name last Thursday in the official Convention thread, page 9, post #162. I don't know how to add the link like you guys...but here's what I said:

QUOTE
BIG ONE - in the buffet line, when Jim was just about to ask about Pam and asked about Toby instead. Michael said, "Toby Flendersen is everything that is wrong with the paper industry." FLENDERSEN?! Have we ever heard Toby's last name before?! I can't remember ever hearing it!

It's a funny-sounding name - sounds kind of Scandinavian, or Dutch? Maybe that's why Toby went to Amsterdam after his divorce!
OfficeFan100
I caught that too!
OfficeFan100
I compiled a list of all of the employees last names (at least that we know of)

Michael Scott Oscar Martinez
Dwight Schrute Toby Flenderson
Pam Beasley Ryan Howard
Creed Bratton Darryl Philbin
Kevin Malone Lonny
Angela Martin Madge
Phyllis Lapin Roy Anderson
Meredith Palmer
Kelly Kapoor
Stanley Hudson
OfficeFan100
By the way--these are only Scranton employees. And we're still working on getting Madge and Lonny last names!

We don't know tha Roy's last name is Anderson. There is no evidence from the show to support it.
Fancy_New_Becca
thats cool you put that up, i was wondering what their names were actually.
funny how their names are nearly comic book like

Really? Hmmm...
pam-pong
Who is Lonny? A warehouse person?

Phyllis Lapin...soon to be Phyllis Vance. smile.gif
OfficeFan100
Yay! And Lonny is a warehouse person. If you watch Boys and Girls, once Michael knocks the shelves down withe crane, Lonny is the one who throws the box and says "Da**** Michael!"

And no, we don't have actual evidence from the show. But David Denman has been quoted as saying that they might make it Anderson and Wikipedia has him listed as Roy Anderson.

Notice that I sadly took Jim Halpert off of that list

Suck on this pennpaper

I also lifted this directly from the NBC OFFICE BIOS page

Stanley Hudson
Angela Martin
Kevin Malone
Jim Halpert
Michael Scott
Ryan Howard
Oscar Martinez
Roy Anderson
Pam Beesly
Phyllis Lapin
Merideth Palmer
Dwight Schrute
Jan Levinson

Funny thing is, Ms. Jenna Fischer spells her character name differently than NBC does. Her myspace is PamBeesley...

I think somebody else took her screenname first, so she had to get a different one dry.gif

I dont know how you take screencaps from itunes...I dont think that you can. And no, i only have seasons two and three. I also have seasons one and two Dvd sets, and i have a DVD recorder to record season three and i can play them on my computer and take screencaps with different programs. This particular picture was from conflict resolution, but i stole from another thread. I could go back and get a better resolution shot from the DVD's that i have, but i am too lazy.

Can't you just use the Print Scr button on your keyboard to make a screenshot and paste it in a image program like paint?

Roy_Anderson
I guess i can. I didnt think of that.

You can with still images - not video - you need to have some sort of video capture software (my real life job would be SO much easier if you could Shift+Print Screen to get a video still!).
Stapler
I usually have signatures turned off when I'm on these boards, but a few people referenced other people's cool new signatures, so it turned it back on.

I nearly busted a gut when I saw Officionada's signature above! (Well, in case it changes in the future, I'm referring to the one where it says that Officionada will kill a kitten every time someone creates a duplicate post, etc...) Those monsters chasing the kitten cracked me up.

"Please. Think of the kittens." HILARIOUS!

Best sig ever. Even better than Leather Daddy Jim

Bee-bloo-bleep. Oiiiiil Caaaan. Toby Flenderson.

Toby has grown a pair, if you have seen the 1st deleted scene for Benihana Christmas and its about danm time.
Fechin
I feel bad for how Toby is treated because he's a pretty good guy though I was glad he stood up to Angela in the deleted scene smile.gif
muffyduffy
^....yeah......I highly doubt he actually "wrote her up."
dawntinsley
Toby feeling Kevin's bathrobe was one the best parts of Benihana Christmas!

I love how Toby is so kind to everyone, but wistful. Toby makes me sad because he's normal like Jim and sees the office with it's eccentricities, but he doesn't have Jim's charisma or charm to make his life less miserable. I think that's why Pam reaching out to Toby was so touching.
jamalot
I love Toby. There's something so bittersweet about the way he smiles when he's interacting with Pam:

- during "The Convention" when he's working up the courage to ask her out
- during "Branch Closing" (correct ep?) when he's telling her about the run
- during "The Convict" when he answers her call from the conference room
- during "Benihana Christmas" when she gives him the bathrobe

Toby seems to have a pretty acute understanding of human nature -- surely he's figured out that Jim had feelings for Pam (going back to "Conflict Resolution"). Toby's little "knuckle-five" attempt with Jim made me so sad... it kind of made me feel like Toby abdicated territory to Jim... Does anyone think that in upcoming episodes we'll see more Toby/Jim interactions -- with Pam as undercurrent?
scranton_represent
I too think that Toby has got some courage and will probably someday soon ask Pam out.
two toasters
Ahh, Toby. Always the voice of reason.

"Its a dead animal in an office... you can't..."

"You know they're teasing you..."

"Can't you just get up yourself? You only grilled your foot."

You would have to be calm and collected to be in his job, dealing with Michael and Dwight's antics.
Recorderalways
I love Toby too, just looking at him makes me laugh. I don't think he is going to ask Pam out...as stated above, he does seem pretty astute. And he noted recently how, when he walked into the break room, Pam didn't even look up from her magazine or whatever she was doing. If you're even remotely interested....you at least look up.

*sigh* I hope Toby can find someone to make him happy. Carol's available.... wink.gif

Wow... what could make Michael hate Toby more than this???!!! I think Toby should "chase that feeling." laugh.gif
L&Owhore
That would be the funniest story arc ever! I would love to see Michael's reaction to Toby and Carol dating.

Does anyone else think Jim was a total jerk when he wouldn't do the fist bump thing with Toby?? Whether he thought it was stupid or not he could have been more considerate about Toby's feelings.

Jim is the biggest punk because of that.

The saddest line ever uttered on The Office was Toby's "why?" when Dwight took the robe.

There are a few women on he board that wouldn't mind sharing their robes with him.

Question: how many children does Toby have? Sasha was in Take our Daughters to Work Day, and in season one there's a picture of a dark haired girl on his desk - anybody know? I really want all of my facts about all the characters straight!
pam-pong
I'm liking the idea of Toby dating Carol. He really needs a nice woman (like Pam, just not Pam). Carol seems to fit the description. Plus she seems pretty stable, despite having dated Michael for so many months. It's win-win for Toby and Carol, lose for Michael.

Who was he sitting next to in the party, when he was on the desk and they had the shot of his feet swinging?

Toby and Carol? That would be a very funny reaction from Michael when he finds out.

I didn't see as Jim being a punk or a jerk as much as just being caught off guard by it. He's worked with Toby for years now and he's never done that. I dont think Jim would purposely try to be a jerk to Toby.
HugItOutBia
I love Toby's puppy dog eyes.. they call to me... "Emily... I love you...Emily Flenderson"
