Full Version: How old are you and what kind of office do you come from?

UC22
I am 28 and work in an IT office. Sadly I have more Dwights and Michaels than Jims. smile.gif

(P.S. Sorry if this has already been discussed, hopefully it is time for an update)
sammy57
I work in a small construction office. Much of the time I'm here alone - so I get to be Dwight, Jim, Pam, Angela, Oscar, Phyllis, Stanley, Kevin, Creed, Meredith, Ryan, Toby and Michael all rolled up into one. Ooooh, kinky.

I will not tell you my age, except that I'm old enough to be Jim's mother. But I'm not his mother. Very important distinction. He's, uh, cute.

I'm 34 and I've never worked in an office setting. It's been manufacturing/industrial for most of my working life. I guess it's odd then that I love the show so much. I guess it's the banality of their jobs that I relate to.
smellslikechickensoup
I'm 22 and still in college (almost done though! Yay!) But i have worked as a receptionist in an office where everyone else, the full-time employees, got to do whatever they wanted. It was a lot like working with a bunch of Michaels, scary I know, but they would always have to go to "meetings" out of the office, take like three hour lunches, and then come back do actual work for like a hour and then go home. It was so frustrating to have to sit there and try to explain to people trying to get a hold of these people that they were still gone to lunch at 2pm when they left at like 11am! Ok I am done ranting now, thanks for listening, luckily I don't have that job anymore!
flagstaff_c

Pretty much the same goes for me too, except I work in the Transport/Moving Industry.

We get to move a lot of offices and I can tell you that every character or nearest facsimile is there. smile.gif
There seems to be a lot of Kevins.

edit: I'm old.
hal_the_tool
I have worked as a manager and a tech nerd. I have worked for the government and several small businesses and companies. Now I share my vast comptuer knowledge with the next generation. I teach the kiddies how to type.

I'm 24 and work in a hospital billing office, full of cubicles and Dwights.
jokelley
I'm 24 and I worked at a law office until I went to law school this fall.

NO ONE like the office in my office...everyone was duller than Kevin and sadder than Toby.

I'm going to add the ages here and ask NICELY that everyone add their name/age to the list in reply(, to save space. If you choose not to disclose your age just put N/A(not applicable). I had this idea of this age topic thread but did not pursue it myself! Nice one!

I work in HR for a rather american-sized bank. I'm surrounded by a good mix of all the character types. Although I can't say I've come across a Creed yet (the company tends to force people into early retirement).

I'm oh god, I hate to say it 47! But, trapped in the body of a 28 year old and the mind of a kid!

I work in a financial aid office and I don't have enough space to tell you about the people in our office.

We have a Creed, a female Michael and a Angela!

What I really want is a Jim!
Grilled Cheese
I'm 15 and work a small music lessons business. I do general office stuff. We have a jim and a toby. What I wish we had was a pam.

Used to teach in a classroom, right now I'm at home with my 4-year old daughter, (makes it easy to reply at 2:45 pm), who thinks Michael is frickin hilarious, (she knows another kid when she sees one). At least she doesn't identify with Dwight. God! What would I do?

High School and no job! smile.gif
WhitestSneakers
16, in high school. no job, though i would like to et one at my local library. The people there seem pretty sane though.

I'm 21 and presently, I don't work in an office. I used to work at a resort front desk, and the people were much like office people. There was a meredith (front desk manager always came in hung over and if you called her at home within an hour after she ahd gotten home, she was completely slammed), a kelly, a phyllis, a kevin (which was ALL of the outside boys--dirty maintenence guys!), a roy, an angela... yeah, it was... fun? huh.gif but before that, I worked at a physical therapy office, where I mostly had a kelly, an oscar, and a jim. before that... well, before that I was a waitress, so we mostly had merediths, kevins, and all the warehouse guys. and quite a few other waitresses who took the slow train from philly... wink.gif oh yeah, and creeds.

in high school and work part time job back in a warehouse. I feel for Darryl.

I'm not working right now but spent most of my working life working secretarial in a variety of different offices as we moved quite a bit for my husband's job. I've worked with many a Dwight and more than enough Angela's for my sanity to endure. Thankfully a few Jim's and even a Pam or two.

I have two sons, ages 16 and 19 and they are also huge Office fans. Been happily married 19 years.

The only time I worked in an office setting was in college working in the advertising dept of the school paper. Our account executive was Michaelesque. He thought he was hilarious but wasn't and he used "That's what she said" as much as possible.

I'm 24 and work in a chemistry lab-but there is an office area right by the lab and I have to go in there to make copies at least a dozen times a day. The place I work is an industrial/manufacturing setting and the main offices for the place is in Chicago, so there isn't much for office stuff around.
Ryan_the__Temp
I am 19 and my office is a college dorm.....

On a side note my Economics teacher looks like Steve Caroll and sounds just like him.......

he teaches as if Michael Scott was a teacher....he wants everyone to love him but seems to make the class way to hard.
Fancy_New_Becca
I'm 28 I dont work in a office i've always done retail but you get the same type of chartacters. My ex boss was alittle dwight and angela mixed....from the eastern european country of Estonia! No Lie. She'd have dwight freaking out. Completely thick(stupid). worked in a baby's/child's clothing store. I have a awesome story of her mistaking poo for a half eaten candy bar. Picture Bill Murray in the empty pool in caddy shacklol

I work for an office that has several Kevins, one Stanley, and REALLY mean Angela.
RadHalpert
I'm 21 and I'm an Undergraduate, but I am also a Resident Advisor. My staff definitely has an angela.

I worked in transportation, which was just as exciting as you might think.

As well as in Investments. Bleh.

I want to go into the foreign service. (oh and I am 21)

Hey vbarkley, we used to live in the 'burgh, ('89-95), while my husband was at CMU. We've been curious for a long time whether or not Myron Kope (sp?) is still around first of all, and if he' is, is he still covering the Steelers? Sorry for the digression here guys . . .
pam-pong
Okay, now I have to add that my college paper office was just like Stamford. Playing the video games instead of working. I don't get the role playing games. One of the guys had to point out to me that I was always shooting my own men. So I stuck to mah-jongg mostly.

Myron is still alive but retired. Funny, you were in the 'Burgh during the hiatus I spent in Florida (88-96).

Oh, I am from Pittsburgh and I am not 21. My only office is my home office right now. Best boss I ever had, but the pay sucks.

Thanks for the update. We have fond memories of living in Squirrel Hill, Murray Ave., Oakland, dawntawn, etc. My husband was a grad student at CMU, and I taught at Pitt. I bet the leaves are changing right now. We don't get that out here in Cali. dry.gif

I'm 24 and I work in a non-profit. I head-up the communications department, but we have a huge office with development and fundraisers. We have one of everybody...the Michael is an obvious exageration, but it's still pretty funny. I actually took the photoshopped picture that michael made of the office, and photoshopped our own staff members into it.
Jackie Alberts
I'm 54 and I am in HR . O M G I'm Toby. I am HR for manufacturing industry. We have one Michael. It is a small office only 4 of us, but 3 of the 4 watch "The Office" and have a discussion every Friday morning and the Michael of the group, just doesn't get it.
PurellCocktail
I'm 32 and was a Pam for 10 years at Verizon. I left to have a baby and just never went back- that was 8 years ago, and I can make so many comparisons to the show like I never left! We had a Dwight/Kevin rolled into one. His name was Neil - he was childishly pervy like Kevin and a tool like Dwight.
StrawberryMelon
22, university office. Needs a Jim, however!

at least everyone here loves "the Office". Makes for decent discussion on Fridays!
