So, I went and saw Jim Gaffigan.
On the way out I saw a dad and his two young sons. I am officially mad at my dad now for never being cool enough to take me to a comedy show. (Gaffigan's not a blue comedian) Then, on the way out the front door, I turn and see a crowd gathered around Mr. Jim Gaffigan himself. And I'm like, "I'm getting in on this!" So I go into the line that had formed, grab my notebook out of my purse and wait. That when I see like eight people in front of me sign this list and then pull cash out of their wallets. I have no idea why they did this, but everyone around me was taking out money. I didn't see any merchindise. The only thing I could think of was that he was charging for the autograph or the photo or both. And I don't know if that's true. Those people could have been getting ready to pay for parking for all I know. But since I had no $, I got out of line and walked away. I hope I misinterpreted what was going on, I hate it when celebrities make people pay for autographs. Like I said, I have no idea why everyone decided to whip out $. They didn't seem to be together.
He's much shorter than I expected, but I had my heels on and everyone looks shorter when you rock 3 inch heels.
I hope you're wrong -- I hope Gaffigan hasn't become mercenary, that's a big turn off. Years ago nobody charged for an autograph. I went to the first premier of "Pirates" held at Disneyland and Jon Voight walked the red carpet signing autographs -- he must have signed a thousand autographs as well as posing for pictures with fans (and he wasn't even in the movie!) Same for Johnny Depp (who was in the movie, pardon my humor).
I know of third rate performers who ask $5 for their autograph -- you know what you can do with that piece of paper.
