i just happened to tune in last night, right when there was this sketch with a girl & a guy. i really couldn't tell if they were supposed to be a couple, or she was supposed to be his mother! anyway, they seemed like a couple of hicks, & they were supposed to be giving advice to people who were appearing on a tv screen.

does anyone know what this segment is called, & how long it's been around?

i actually found it completely hysterical (not to mention ridiculous). wish i could find a clip of it online, too...

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the sketch from The Tonight Show, not Late Night. Last night on Jay, they had the all time dumbest girl and guy from Jaywalking giving advice to people on a TV screen.

yeah, you're right. after i posted it, i remembered that i may have been watching jay for once...
