Deal or No Deal getting boring???

the first time I saw this show it kept me going for the full hour, even the next two times. Does anyone find it gets alittle boring after awhile?....Chris Bassoo

Oh, it is boring. When it first started, I thought it was great and watched it all the time, but now I find myself turning away from it because I am tired of it, especially when they do the themed shows, like Star Wars, just a game show please.

I really enjoy watching DOND. I like Howie and think he's cool. I will agree that I don't care for them putting someone else starting out and finishing the next time but then what do you do if someone doesn't go all the way to the end? I'm even trying to get on the show. Don't know if I'll make it or not and it's taken me 6 mo. to get our video made but except for my niece being on the final video, it's being sent off tomorrow. I don't remember if the show is over or not, but I'd like to try to get on and make it to the 1m. I tried playing the game on TV and I've tried for the case and I've played it on my computer. I'm sure it's nothing to playing it on the TV though. I hope it stays on. My niece (different one) also said maybe her & I could go on there as a bout between us. Family against family would be interesting or sister against sister. I think they could come up with all kinds of different challenges. I also would like to see the banker.

I love this game show. Howie really makes the show what it is. I love the models. I love their dresses. I love the psychology thats used on the contestants when they play the game. I even love the banker and no one likes the banker. Has anyone been able to guess who the banker is?

Make sure you run and jump around the stage and scream at the top of your lungs a lot. Modesty and decorum in contestants is out the window on this show. And, unlike a show like Jeopardy, you only need to know how to count up to 46 to be able to play.

DOND typifies the network seeking out the lowest common denominator in their viewing audience.

Tsbhome
I used to be an obsessed fan. I still sort of am, but you're right, it's the same old thing, so it can be boring...
Howie Mandel is awesome, though. xD Howie Mandel is so funny, it's kind of hard to get bored with HIM. xD
steveo505
Why, oh why, do they show what's coming up before going to a commercial? These are just terrible decisions by the show, spoiling it for the viewers. Now we know it's going down to the last 2 cases and we know the amount offered. Bad, bad, bad!
steveo505
"The wait is over." As I guessed before the season started, they would give it away what episode the million was won. Is this full of drama and suspense as they like to do? NO! It's anti-climatic when they tell you ahead of time. This is yet another blundering decision by NBC. It's amazing the decisions they are making with this network.

EDIT: 4 cases left and the offer is 173K. How cheap! If and when someone wins the million, then can we have this show canceled please?
rayreed
I stopped watching when they started adding million dollar cases with each show. Took the fun and fairness out of it. This is when they "jumped the shark". The contestants got to be a turn off too. Especially when they play the drama card on the first offer as if its a tough decision to turn it down. Its mostly w/b/w/b/w/b/w/b too. Also not completing a contestants game in the same show.
The best part of the show was those who got greedy and went "one more time..." and got burned. Those shows were the most talked about, not the big winners so much.

Now they show losing ratings desperation thinking we wanted to see a million dollar winner so they fix it telling the contestant she will have it before the game begins. Here is my post on that:

I could tell she knew she had a million dollar case when she turned down the $292k with 3 cases left and no stress so I switched channels. Then I was told she turned down $592k on the last offer to confirm that she knew. How insulting to the viewer is that? Earlier in the show she plays to the audience asking if they want to see history made tonight and a signal she knew. Terrible acting on her part. I stopped watching DOND long ago and will continue.

VegasUnicorn
What on earth were the "powers that be" at NBC thinking? If airing a week of spots of Howie telling everyone that the next show would have a million dollar winner was their idea of increasing viewership, they certainly all need plexi-glass stomachs to see where they're going (considering where their collective heads are)! Now they're assuring us that there are more big winners to come. Who cares at this point?

They have succeeded in destroying what little suspense was involved in sitting out an hour to find out if the contestant won. The pace has been picked up minimally, but now there's no reason to watch at all. What they've done now is comparable to giving away the end of a movie before one has a chance to see it.

Maybe the new tv season will bring something worth watching on another channel. Or, dare I say it, perhaps taking time to read a book!
AggieTom
Excellent points by many. I do not understand why networks want to show you everything that is going to happen in advance...be it before the commercial or telling us watch tonight when 1 million is won. I didn't watch...who cares if you know the outcome. Are network employees that dumb, or is the American public that dumb. I was excited to see Kath and Kim until I saw about 20 different promos...I feel like I've seen the show already.

What is sad about DOND is that like SO many shows on US TV it is from somewhere else...in this case a British import (Do we create anything here anymore????). I watched this show for many months while working in the UK and it was one of my favorites. It's the very same game but take away the flashy set, the dim witted models (okay I know many of you like the models but it is D-U-M-cool.gif, the false suspense, the agonizingly pathetic contestants and the band of nitwits they bring with them. The British version is subtle...contestants have the cases. One is selected at random to play and the rest return. You get to know this group over time as they wait for their chance...and more importantly you care if they win. They are genuine people who seem grateful for the chance to play. Here we have people who proclaim that "I didn't come here to win "Fill in the greedy blank ________ but usually about 5 times their annual salary"! The host is over the top dramatic but adds to the real suspense. They win less money and are 5 times as grateful as the pigs that are sent to the US DOND trough.

In England they would assume that NBC stands for No Bloody Clue.

Must say your nbc site is hard to navigate and you don't explain anywhere why your crappy shows won't play on my computer - I tried about thirty different ways and got the same message that it couldn't show from my location. Don't offer the show if you can't provide them. Very dissapointed you don't even have a contact us section on the site for us to voice our concerns. I will be deleting the service on my computer and vow never to watch a thing on your network.

QUOTE (Everyday Guy @ Jan 25 2007, 01:47 PM) *
I agree - last year it was really bad, slower than season 2 in my opinion. In fact, when season one ended I pretty much washed my hands of the show because of this. I just cannot stand waiting such ridiculous times just to open one case. It's not suspenseful, just really annoying. I gave season two a chance and I think they did address that issue a little bit.

Now the thing that will break it for me, is the contestants. Realizing that the show purposely encourages their contestants to be outrageous to make for "good TV", I still don't like it. Case in point - that "Nascar" contestant the other day. That was the most annoying person in the world. Whether it was an act or not, she nearly killed the show for me.

Anyways, back to the main topic of this thread - I believe season two is faster paced than season one, but still is too slow. Get on with it. I believe that they can fit two full games in one hour easily. Less time with the banker and the offer, less time of the B.S. chit chat nonsense. Do we really need to meet their supporters, their family/friends who can be just as annoying? That is just a time-waster. Maybe keep it, but speed it up.. we don't need their life story. mad.gif

OH PLEASE QUIT BEING SO NEGATIVE THE SHOW IS GREAT AND EMOTIONAL AND THE REALITY OF EACH CONTESTANT IS GREAT!!!!!! I STAY A TRUE FAN PRIME TIME OR DAYTIME 1/2 HOUR OR A FULL HOUR I LOVE THE SHOW!!!!!

Here's my list of complaints about the show. This is long, but that should tell you how bad the show has gotten.

A) Taking ninety minutes to play Sheetal Shetty's game. Michelle played all the way to the end with a similar sort of board and took only about an hour.

cool.gif Kimberly Chastang's spoiled $701,000 offer. If you did it to make us watch, we're already doing that given that the games are 4M, 5M and 6M.

C) Spoilage of Michelle Falco's game.
1: Making it all too obvious what the last two cases were by specifying "the largest offer ever", which we know must be higher than $701,000 being loyal viewers.
2: Spoiling even the people that didn't know that by mentioning that very $701,000 offer in the promo.

D) Marybeth's game.
1: That a game with such a stupid contestant even was aired. It's the worst hour of television I've ever seen.
2: The card dropping used to fake confetti in the promo.
3: That the show was sixty minutes long when you told us the 1M was in the final two cases. It should have been just ten minutes long if you insist on that.

E) Attempting to point out that Toni Crispino would "be ready to go ALL...THE...WAY....", when she was just one of the many who quit when the net broke. That only applies if they make at least one move with no net.

F) Saying Brandy Brown's $1M Madness game was the best for last, when it was very clearly the worst.

G) Putting out the spoilers of Jessica's game.
1: Continuing to say "We're getting closer..." and etcetera, when we're already glued to the TV set because of the first promo.
2: Showing confetti, "You all ready to see history?!" and "You're going to be the first $1,000,000 winner!", and expecting us to not know what happens at the end.
3: Saying we're going to see another one.

H) Stating that Gary Cote was "racing towards the $1,000,000 finish line" in his promo, but both 1M cases were gone in the first four picks.

I) Meanwhile, a game that began Million Dollar Mission two that also lost both 1M in round 1 was not aired due to "lack of excitement". Okay...how about the games you spoiled the entire outcome of? Thanks to you, they had not just lack of excitement, but fake excitement.

J) Specifying someone (unknown who) during this Mission would get a "world record offer", as quoted by Howie, which never turned up.

K) Inconveniently noting that a game with 8M and a game with 9M would occur after Ritchie Bell's game, which spoiled the result after the $416,000 was refused. Please, please think first!

L) Tomorrow's episode in every way.
1: Making it last 90 minutes, when you are telling us what the cases are after 75 minutes of play. Just show us those 15 minutes and get it over with...
2: Taking half an hour longer than Jessica's game while opening two fewer cases (23 against 25).
3: Asking if Tomorrow will buckle under the pressure and take the $677,000, and then show that same board with case 15 waiting to be opened, which tells us it's been refused.
4: Extending Tomorrow's $422,000 decision through an entire segment of the show, when we already know she's not taking it.
5: Showing case 11 with a smiling Katie, which combined with the other information, tells us the entire game out to what case 15 contains.
6: Subsequently asking again if Tomorrow will take the $677,000.
7: Taking a break before opening case 15, when you could just open it and see if a break is needed.
8: Leaving only five minutes remaining, then eating up another 1:30, which makes it impossible to fit the reaction to a 1M, collecting the offer, buildup, buildup, deliverance of the offer, buildup, more buildup, and the decision and aftermath, in the time remaining.
9: By this spoiler, we now assume that when we don't see any very loud spoilers, there is no 1M win, and ratings are lost.

M) Saying Steve Smiley was going to go really high, and then the top three cases were removed in the first five picks.

N) In the same episode, the promo for the second game said that Tia would be "knocking low amounts off the board", yet the 2M was removed in round 1.

O) Airing a promo for Davon Clark's game, then not airing it for another month. This caused Howie's quip of "Join us next time when another contestant goes for $2 MILLION!" to be false.

P) While their show is at risk of cancellation, claiming Ashley Otte would get a record-setting $1,100,000 offer, when she got it in the playout and it is only tied for third-largest playout offer.

Q) During that game of Davon Clark, Howie asks if Davon will take the first offer of $72,000 when you have already spoiled the last three cases will be $1,000, $400,000 and $1,000,000, and also throws to break before opening a case when those 400K and 1M are the only two remaining big cases, which therefore means the case must be small. This is an offense that is so frequent it's certainly got more violations than this one...

R) Making Diane Jorgenson wait 112 days just to see the second half of her game. This is just cruel. In addition, the only possible explanation is that Diane must win the 1M. But knowing NBC, they'll spoil it, which would make the long wait even more pointless.

S) Ignoring me when I send a bunch of these to you, and sending out a pre-programmed response.

T) Continuing to lie to your viewers (see P.) when it's the viewers that decide if your show continues to air.

U) Just being a panel of morons.

Ok, so we have a new episode of the show right now. Previews start the show telling us it comes down to 2 cases at the end. Whoever makes the decisions of what to show should just be fired! This is nothing short of stupidity. New show, same mistakes.

You haven't even touched on what they did tonight. Let me explain concretely to you why NBC's I.Q. is lower than the Marianas Trench.

The previews said the final eight were 1M and three other big amounts, with 1 being one of the small amounts. Is she going to take the money and get out...or play all the way and become our next millionaire?

The "One case is 1, one case is 1M" was only spoken by Howie, with no evidence that this is actually going to occur in active play. This is readily supported by the final case reveal, which is shown to be relaxed and carefree. If she went all the way or at least to the final two, it would look so much different.

Without even watching the show, I knew exactly what would happen. Ours truly would take a deal, and only then reach the $1 and $1,000,000 ending. I saw this coming from light-years away, because I know exactly what goes on inside the coconut-hollow heads of these mindless producers. And I proved to be dead on the money, according to the other DonD forum I visit where I published my prediction. Well, so much for that one, Howie. Next time, tell us the truth.

Well, Dawn, there you go. More clear-cut evidence that NBC just does not learn. This is about the twentieth time you've seen the smoking gun and you still think you're dreaming. Deal or No Deal is gone. What you love about the show is nonexistent.

"I figured out the plans of [5th Grader] producers in addition to the DonD producers. And Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? is clearly all the DonD producer job application needs to have on it."
steveo505
Yes, quadrupleplay, I realized what had happened as she accepted the bank offer. I just thought to myself, what a lame attempt at a "lure" to keep people watching. Television NEVER use to be like this, NBC! Is there anyone left there that knows how to put out good previews or how to produce a show? I'm thinking they had all the good ones take early retirements so they could pay younger wannabee producers less money. It seems to hold some truth on all the prime time reality and game shows at least.
steveo505

I only spent one minute watching the promo to be able to tell exactly what would happen. That should show you how predictable this show is now.

Deal or No Deal is a wonderful game show. What you miss or just refuse to believe is that this is not Deal or No Deal. Last night proved once again that the "NBC version" is nothing but contrived, commercialized worthlessness trying to imitate Deal or No Deal. If you want to continue to compliment it, then tell me exactly what the promo actually said, because I must have misheard something.

Loyal and determined fans of any show know their shows aren't perfect and are usually open to hearing, or just thinking about, comments people make that are negative about the show. So many people with negative comments aren't all lying and, since there has to be a grain of truth in what many of them say, shows obviously have areas in need of improvement so that their ratings don't fall.

I've read a number of your posts and I can't recall you thinking there was anything wrong with Deal. A loyal and determined fan wouldn't be one to go down with a sinking ship, or one to write NBC begging them to keep the show on the air. They WOULD offer constructive suggestions as to how the show might be improved in the midst of sagging ratings, however, if they had any hope of seeing it continue. Personally, the world will be a better place without Deal, and the average IQ level of game show contestants on those shows that do remain should rise, with Deal out of the picture.

People who like a show can always find something in the show that needs improving. I personally think the concept of the show is simplistic and not worth an hour of air time. Telling people who like the show but offer constructive criticism isn't going to help improve the show. And NBC offers these boards to all comers, not just fans, so one should expect there to sometimes be some very negative comments about the show. Just as fans have the right to praise the show, those who think it stinks have the same right to voice their opinion.

"Some" problems...yeah. I think this show had more than "some" problems.

And apparently they did change the channel. So what are you going to do now? Send letters to every household in the country that changed the channel and tell them to quit being so negative? The viewers have spoken. I even got my list published on gameshownewsnet.

I grow tired of asking this...so it will be the last time. Based on my presented evidence which shows the ratings fell faster the closer together items on the list are, what do you think could be the reason why these viewers stopped watching, and why do you continue to deny it and yell at people who cite these reasons when you have failed to even try presenting any other explanation?

If, according to your own post, the people who are being negative are not liars, they are thus speaking the truth. Therefore, the list is the truth. You have one last chance to give me some alternate argument, or it can be concluded logically that you are obsessed with this show beyond the point of insanity.

Please...write carefully. Good night.

Please try that post again, because you made no sense. Do you expect me to give everything a positive review? Even you have to pan Howie Do It.

Howie Do It had more than some problems, and it was cancelled because of this. According to this list, Deal or No Deal also has more than some problems.
