Deal or No Deal getting boring???

the first time I saw this show it kept me going for the full hour, even the next two times. Does anyone find it gets alittle boring after awhile?....Chris Bassoo

I agree they need to spice it up somehow especially with 1 vs 100 being better. It's kinda plain jane compared to that show, but I think its too early for a cancellation, just spruced it up a little bit.
Pantherfanatic
Yeah I think it is too. Noone has ever won the million and last night the first contestant picked her case and that had the million dollars. She took a deal of over $100,000 and didn't stick through to the end.
I liked how the show started out the new season, cash prize amounts went up to $6 million. I think when the season finale comes around, they should do that again.
veryfine_1
I dont find the show boring, I like it. I wanna see the banker though!
borninabarn
Yes it is getting old now!And 1 VS 100 Would probley be a big hit BUT they have a boring host (saget)could have gotten someone else for a show like this!Any ideas on who you might pick if you feel the same?
LoveDefying
Yeah, I'm not much into it anymore. I was into it for the whole first season, but now I do find it quite boring. It's the same thing over and over really. People either knock out the million and get like 50k, or has a very high amount in their case and walks away with like 1/4 of that. I'd actually like to see someone try and go all the way and win 750k or 1m.
veryfine_1
Hey if anyone is really getting bored, then on Monday nights a fantastic show called Heroes comes on NBC. It is so worth watching. I am always on the edge of my seat!!!
TxDon
Funny this topic was brought up. I was thumbing through some of my Season Pass settings on TiVo and erased 'Deal or No Deal'. It was fun at first, but it puts me to sleep now.

I Agree with you. I personally didnt care for Bob Saget on Funniest Home Video's Either. Although I noticed that he seemed to be trying to act like Howie Mandell. Just my oppinion.

Althought that 1 VS 100 Is rather interesting because if you get one wrong you go home with NOTHING.

As for DOND the show is still one of my favorites. I watch it faithfully. Just like every show they have there good days and bad days. (dont we all)
nbcuqa
I like that he's offering gifts to tempt the players. laugh.gif

The "Deal" formula was doomed from the beginning though. It is a very simplistic game and the strategy behind it is easy to pick up. Because of that, the show needs to constantly re-invent itself. They could try going with 30 cases for a while, or chaning the amounts like they already have. The thing that keeps you watching shows like Jeopardy, Millionaire and 1v100 is the trivia. You try to answer to questions yourself. DOND has none of that.

This show is the embodies everything I hate about reality television, It should be ended

Howie Mandel has never and will never be funny. throw in a show with unskilled clearly scripted people.. with a worthless shadowy "banker" who calculates... dear lord... exact math... and you have what is one of the worst shows ever on television. I watched this show with my dvr recorded and in actuality they pick about 10 cases in an hour... IN AN HOUR people... this show has to be stopped... STUDIO 60 is on the chopping block because this show can be made for no money whatsoever, cuz how much can Howie Mandel demand? NOthing

I disagree with you about the Biggest Loser. I've struggled with weight before, and while the show may not be incredibly accurate, it is certainly inspirational.

DoND, however is another matter. It was fun to watch at the beginning, but now I can accurately predict the banker's offer within $5000 everytime without using a calculator. It's the law of averages. Howie Mandel is entertaining, but he's no Pat Sajak or Alex Trebek.

I don't think that DoND should be cancelled, but just moved to a different time slot, such as early evening or afternoon times.
Saboteur
1. Howie is and always has been funny.

This show is the perfect eye and mind candy. When I am tired after work I see 26 or more beautiful girls, a host that does not make you think to laugh. And someone I hope will win the million dollars.
After relaxing for awhile, I love Studio 60. But it reminds me of the 40 + other shows that get cancelled
because they attract an intelligent audience, which unfortunately must be small.
Late Shift
I have seen the show a couple of times, and I enjoyed it. However I do wish they would just start, and finish one contestant each show. I find it irritating that they try to force me to watch the next show. It is good enough not to need that kind of pushing all it does is push people away.
wisechild
This is a stupid show, but yes, it appeals to the majority of un-intelligent people who just want pablum shoved at them after a day of hard work. It is so painfully slow and requires no skill or ability - I can't watch it. If the purpose of this show is just eye candy with a bit of a contest thrown in, why is it that only men get eye candy? Where are the shows with 20 hot-looking men and a dominant hostess to lead the show? In the 21st century, if we can't abolish the objectification of women, we should at least achieve equality tongue.gif Give me HOT GUY WEEK on Deal or No Deal, and I'll be tuning in. Otherwise, you'll find me watching Studio 60.

I don't like this show either. Its biggest problem is its pace. They try to build suspense, but it's just annoying to wait and wait for them to do each step of this very simple game. GET ON WITH IT. And I would be watching something else, if there were anything else on worth watching.
Hayleyfan
Do you guys not have a DVR? I love this show because I get to fastforward through anyhting I don't want to watch smile.gif Oh and as for it being for dumb people...I use my intelligence otherwise... This is pure entertainment. I love seeing people win money.

And that is its weakness. In theory, a perfect application of Quantum Mechanics could beat the banker every time.

Speed it Up or Lose It, This show's slower than molasses in January

You're losing viewers by trying to "stretch out" the suspense, NBC. GET ON WITH IT. I have run completely out of patience with waiting for you to open the dagnabbit case. And an hour is just too much of my life to lose to such a simpleton show.
Everyday_Guy
I agree - last year it was really bad, slower than season 2 in my opinion. In fact, when season one ended I pretty much washed my hands of the show because of this. I just cannot stand waiting such ridiculous times just to open one case. It's not suspenseful, just really annoying. I gave season two a chance and I think they did address that issue a little bit.

Now the thing that will break it for me, is the contestants. Realizing that the show purposely encourages their contestants to be outrageous to make for "good TV", I still don't like it. Case in point - that "Nascar" contestant the other day. That was the most annoying person in the world. Whether it was an act or not, she nearly killed the show for me.

Anyways, back to the main topic of this thread - I believe season two is faster paced than season one, but still is too slow. Get on with it. I believe that they can fit two full games in one hour easily. Less time with the banker and the offer, less time of the B.S. chit chat nonsense. Do we really need to meet their supporters, their family/friends who can be just as annoying? That is just a time-waster. Maybe keep it, but speed it up.. we don't need their life story. mad.gif
framptonfran
I feel better knowing I'm not the only one getting irritated with the pace of the show. I have solved the problem --- I tape the show (or DVR) and when I play it back, just watch for the case - I can watch a whole show in no time at all.

This is what put me right off the show in this country.Over here a man called Noel Edmonds fronts the show,i swear to god the way he ****** about and holds things up all
for "Drama" well anyway this is why i stopped watching it altogether. The Man,The Show just drove me up the wall.I am sorry this kind of thing has been imported to you as well.
Do yourself a favour don't bother with it anymore,it's not worth the nervous strife.

I use the old DVR and then when nothing else is on I watch the show. Between the time Howie says Open the case, I can hit FF 30 sec 2 times before the amount is shown.
The show is so predictable I can guess pretty close to an offer. Iguess once the 1 million is finally won the show willbe over.
Not that 1 vs 100 is much better with timing at least you ave to have some knowledge. Idenity could have been so much better. they should have made it more like what's my line, being able to ask questions of the contestants. The timing on that show was probably the worse of all three shows.
veryfine_1
Ya the show could be a bit faster.

I'm nodding in total agreement about the timing. I must say that both 1 v 100 and Identity appeal to me more because there's more thought involved. I guess either NBC promoted this more heavily or people just like it simple. At any rate, I don't watch DOND and the only reason I check in at this forum is to find out if they're going to bring back Identity. It is nice to see I'm not the only person who can't stand this phony suspense.

The models should not react to the amounts in the suitcases, they are ruining the reaction of everyone else. They should just open the boxes and smile, that's all
KatieThing
It's so irritating how long he takes. I completely agree with you guys. I'm not in suspense, suspense get's ruined after you spend a whole minute waiting for ONE case to be opened. The models can be cute at times, but at other times it's like, you're obnoxious, just smile.

Enough with these types of shows. If I wanted to watch this junk - I would tape daytime TV. After a long day at work, I want unreality. I want entertainment in the form of good drama, comedy and series I can follow. I don't want to watch game shows. What has happened to networks? No wonder people watch cable...the networks are failing their audience.

Daytime TV? Have you watched it, or even looked at a schedule in the last 10 years? The only game show left there is The Price is Right on CBS, and who knows how long that will last now that Bob Barker is retiring.

20 years ago, when NBC had a powerhouse daytime game show line up with such favorites as 'Sale of the Century', Classic Concentration, Wheel of Fortune, 'Win, Lose or Draw', Super Password & Scrabble, your comment might have made sense, but today us game show fans have to get our fix wherever we can.

yea, i kinda agree. this show is ok, can be funny and entertaining at time...though, i think i could do without the guest apperances...they seem kinda pointless. thats just my opinion though tongue.gif

I thought Deal or No Deal was all about the gorgeous models at first. I did not watch it at the beginning. However, it has really grown at me. It gets exciting near the middle and end of the game. The beginning is boring besides getting to see the models.

I understand what your saying but the problem is NBC has tried many dramas and comedies the last so many years and very few have worked. I think NBC is smart to stick with Deal Or NO Deal on Mon if it's working. also heroes is another good show and it's a drama, as far as comedies My Name is Earl is my favorite from NBC as of right now. Deal Or NO Deal is more of a family show and I think that if a comedy is going to come on it should be a family sitcom think of something like Cosby or Family Ties. I think that 7-8 p.m. CST should be family hour on all networks whether it be a game show, sitcom or family drama.
michaelmc83
It's not that this type of show ( i.e. game show ) is crap, DOND is just crappy and ridiculous period. By all rights each episode should only last about 7 minutes. Just open the GD case already.
In the beginning of the shows' run it was just Howie and his babbling dragging out the "suspence " mercilessly, and that was bad enough. I stopped paying attention to the show for a few months, but the other night I was channel surfing and landed on the show. Now I see it's turned into a crappy and ridiculous 3- ring circus ( guest stars, marching bands, cheerleading squads and whatever ). Pah-lease, ENOUGH ALREADY ! The only reason that DOND exists is because the production costs are low ( therefore large profits for NBC ).
And I thought Fox had cornered the market on bad TV.
In their defence NBC does air some decent shows ( except for Law and Order, or as I call it Law and Extemely Bad Acting and Script Writing ).
rodeo313136
I like to watch DOND, what I hate is when they have a two hour special and show a freaking re-run in the second hour!!! What's up with that? And it wasn't even a good re-run. How pitiful, doesn't NBC have anything better to put in that time slot? mad.gif

Jumping Sharks, it's over, Deal or NO Deal . . . It's NO Deal for me on this show anymore.

Too tricky, too many gimmicks because it is turning into a farce (it's laughable) and the producers and network know it. I hope this is the last season for a show with a good idea not a great one that went sour . . real sour! Sorry Howie . . . go back to stand up doing your surgical gloves blowups. That would be much more entertaining than this show right now.

Can NBC save it . . . I doubt it. Good by from me and I was a real fan . . WAS!. If it is saved I will not know or care.

it's interesting to try to figure out whether there is actually any strategy at all. This film kind of says there is, with the banker's offer being lowballed at first:

i don't know if I buy it...

What I honestly hate the most about this show is the contestants. With only a handful of exceptions, DOND has the dumbest, greediest and/or most self-absorbed contestants I have ever seen. More often than not I've actually found myself rooting against the contestant, hoping that they do open all the big amounts and go home with nothing, not so much because I'm malicious, but just because I have trouble sleeping at night knowing that there are people like that with a ton of money at their disposal.

Here are a list of all my contestant-related gripes:

1) Additional Demands.
NBC and DOND are going to give these people a chance to win one million dollars, and all they have to do is pick a number between 1 and 26. Seems like a sweet deal, right? Well, not for half the dunderheads that come on the show it isn't. On top of being given a 7/26 chance of walking off the stage with six figures, they will expect the models to do whatever they ask, Howie to do whatever they ask, and the banker's offer to go up even if they knock out the top four amounts in one turn.

2) Invulnerability.
I am getting sick and tired of hearing contestants chant "I've got the million! I've got the million!" then open the million and start chanting "I've got the seven-fifty! I've got the seven-fifty!" That and how even after opening the last big amount and leaving their greatest chances somewhere in the three-figure range, they can still yell "That's OK!" and talk pompous to the banker. It shouldn't even be humanly possible to still have a Superman complex after you've blown it all like that, but on DOND, it happens all the time.

3) Empty Threats.
That cop from Boston that kept telling the Banker to "come down here?" He does not represent us. That two star general that told the banker that they would "get him?" If he's still a general, I'm done supporting the troops. What's worse, some contestants even get mad at the models if they open a big amount (the Lime Green Queen, for example), as if they had any say in the contents of their cases. People that resort to threats of bodily harm that readily shouldn't even be permitted out in public, much less be celebrated on prime time network TV and given a chance at millions.

4) The search for stupidity.
It's one thing to be ignorant or uneducated, but I'm honestly convinced NBC was looking specifically for idiots to put on this show, because they found some contestants that make the cast of My Name Is Earl look like the cast of Frasier. What was NBC thinking when they let that fat P.O.S. that was drooling at Lisa be a contestant? What made them think putting that woman that was stalking previous contestants on the show would be a good idea? And why did they bring that fat load on his sister's couch come back twice? Seriously, if I show up at a casting call wearing denim overalls and no shirt or shoes, would that automatically guarantee me a chance at the million? Jerry Springer has classier people on his show than DOND.

It's reached a point where my favorite part of the show is the banker; he's the one that makes fun of all the idiots they have on the show.

I can pretty much agree with your entire list. I wouldn't go so far as to withhold support for the troops because one of their members is a doofus, though.

An added item might be the contestant's "friends". Rather than deluding them in the belief that they're invincible and that it's just "one more case to open", true friends should point out the fact that the banker's deal is more than the contestant could ever expect to see if the contestant worked well past retirement age.

Vegas casinos would love to have these people spending their money in Vegas. Just as picking one more case will be the last one for the contestant, they'd probably think that one more roll of the dice, or one more pull on the one-armed bandit, is the one that will enable them to retire.

I guess you could also add to your list the total lack of modesty, or humility, on the part of contestants. It's one reason I prefer Jeaopardy, where the contestants don't find it necessary to break dance after coming up with the right question/answer, but where some sort of smarts is needed to advance.

And even this seems scripted. Well, the big Christmas show is tonight. I can't wait.....until it's over. Just kidding. smile.gif 2 hours, which means at least 40 something minutes of commercials. Here's an idea for the show! Show ALL the commercials at the beginning, then on with the show nonstop. We viewers could take a nap, fix some turkey sandwiches, take a long relaxing hot bath, many things! biggrin.gif

Oh I wouldn't withdraw support just because of one nimrod, and believe me, I've known the military has plenty of them for quite some time. I went to high school with kids that joined the military because they wanted to "mount a towelhead on their wall" or some crap like that, but I know idiots like that are in the minority. What bothers me, however, was that this particular nimrod was a general. There's absolutely no excuse for that kind of behavior at that rank, and not only that, he behaved that way on national television. That's inexcusable.

That's another gripe of mine. They always have three friends, one that has a lot riding on the contestant's deal, and another one that has absolutely nothing to gain. And it's always that one that leaves with nothing no matter what that keeps yelling "No deal!" and that's always the one they wind up listening to.

Something else I'd like to add. I couldn't really think of a category for it first, but then I thought about it and realized that at least 1/3 contestants will say the exact same thing, so I don't think it needs to be covered in detail:

"No deal! AAAAAAHHH!!! Why did I do that?!!"
losinitslowly
I think they're trying ot spice it up with all the new formats. I loved the million dollar mission format where they added an additional $1000000 case each game. It would be really hard to stick it out I think.

Tonight was the first time I've seen the show. Never again. First the banker crushes the woman's piggy bank and then she walks away with $.01! I would have been pissed! It's human nature to want a happy ending, not that depressing crap. And yeah, the format is pretty boring. At first I kept thinking surely something else is going to happen, but no. Perhaps if I had tuned in when someone won at least 6 figures I would have been more interested, but a penny? No thanks.
CJsMommy
I absolutely CANNOT believe that the "banker" smashed that woman's piggy bank!!! That was outrageous!! How did he know that wasn't a family heirloom??!! I would have been FURIOUS if that would have been me...and it didn't go unnoticed in my house that the contestant's luck changed dramatically after that little stunt! mad.gif I kept hoping that she'd walk away with a lot of money and I thought it was horrible that she was left with a penny! My husband said that she should have charged the "banker" $100,000 for the broken piggy bank - and I wholeheartedly agree with him!!!
TooTall
I used to be a fan of the show but after last night’s episode I will never watch it again. When the “Banker” smashed that woman’s piggy bank you could tell she was upset and it changed the game for her. Then she ends up leaving with $.01. DOND and NBC really cleaned up on that one. Never again.

Yeah, it takes a lot of skill to randomly pick cases. And, come on, beauty pageants are SOOOO 1934.
kirk685
This show blows, tonights show is a great example 8 cases left on the board with two 1 million dollar cases, what are the odds of the person picking the two million dollar cases in a row, well you guessed it thats exactly what happened...8 cases two big numbers and both big numbers get picked in a row, this crap happens on almost every single episode, I don't know whats up with this show but I know people can't have this kind of bad luck on every single episode. I am done with this stupid show..
