I didn't feel like it was trying to tell us to feel any more sorry for Michael than whatever came most naturally to the viewer. I absolutely do think it was pretty real. I felt that the movie showed but didn't judge - and I liked it for that because I don't feel that it is for us to judge. I like that they didn't show us how things played out between them because a million different scenarios could have played out.

I absolutely agree. That's how I took it.

*revives bubblewrap* Sorry. I wasn't around in the 60's. Neither were my parents, come to think of it...

Your parents weren't alive in the 60s? Wow!

There are some great wonderful fantastic movies made in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s. It was way before my time, too. But, they are definitely worth checking out.

1939- Greatest movie year ever.

May I have Gary Cooper and Cary Grant (and Jimmy Stewart from A Shop Around the Corner, if Bubble can spare him)? I know, I'm being greedy, but come on! How can I pick between Longfellow Deeds and Dexter Haven (and Alfed Kralik, but BW may want him too)?

Two of my favorite Hitchcock movies! The Birds is great too- one part still freaks me out ph34r.gif even though I've seen that movie at least 5 times (I won't say what it is though- no need to spoil the movie or anything wink.gif )

I wasn't that impressed with The Birds, because I had read the short story first, and that was scary.

I mean, really, the birds just let them go! But, then, you realize that they let the people go, because they couldn't hide. Anywhere. The birds have taken over.

Creepy!

Fun fact- Tippy Hedren was pregnant with Melanie Griffith when she did that movie. Her character's name was Melanie, and that's where her daughter's name came from!

Favorite Hitchcock (and one of my favorite of all time): Notorious. It is so beautifully filmed, and the suspense of the movie is builds so carefully, you almost don't notice it. I haven't seen it in a while, so I'll have to add it to my queu.

Don't know if anyone here has ever seen the movie Hit the Deck or not- but its one of my all time favorite musicals. I'm not even sure if its in print anymore- but I was fortunate to find a copy of it at my Nana's house a long time ago. Someone may have a copy of it on amazon.com- I've never checked. But if you can get it- I would definitely recommend the movie biggrin.gif

If you want to be a true Hitchcock fan, you've got to see two of his earliest movies, they're out on DVD:

The Lodger, (1927). It's silent and The Thirty-nine Steps, (1935).

You can see how the Hitchcock style emerged. And of course, it's always fun trying to spot him in each of his films. Anyone know where he turns up in Lifeboat?

Had to go to IMDB.com to look this one up

Director Cameo: [Alfred Hitchcock] in "before" and "after" pictures in a newspaper advertisement for Reduco Obesity Slayer. The pictures were genuine, as he had just been on a crash diet (although not with the fictional Reduco) from 300 to 200 lbs. However, the so-called "Reduco Obesity Slayer" diet pill or potion ad seemed so real that audience called the studio and wrote letters to Alfred Hitchcock asking where could they get this product.
Going_Mach_5
I am not a fan of musicals but I really enjoy the old Elvis movies like Liva Las Vegas or Speedway the music is great, anyone seen any? Both of my grandmas are huge Elvis fans so I think they rubbed of on me.

laugh.gif Yeah, I guess they had a bit of a problem considering that the entire movie took place in a lifeboat, he couldn't exactly be walking by in the background. In the actual scene, one of the characters is reading the paper and the ad is front and center. tongue.gif

I saw a long long time ago some great footage on a PBS show that featured vaudeville performers and they had clips of some acts doing their stuff for screen tests young sammy davis, donald o'conner, milton berle, bob hope, george burns, and many others, but it was still interesting.

I LOVE this movie ("Notorious")! Ingrid Bergman is so elegant and impassioned - but I can't believe I never knew it was a Hitchcock movie until I saw it on this board!

Now I have to make a plug for my favorite of all the Cary Grant movies - "The Bishop's Wife". I watch this every year at Christmas, and it completely captivates me.

As a sort of strange aside, this movie was filmed the same year as "It's a Wonderful Life" and almost every kid that appears in one movie appears in the other. For some reason, that is the sort of movie non-trivia that I adore.

I did something this week that I don't think I've ever done. I bought the DVD of a movie that I haven't seen yet. Everyone on here is always raving about BBC Pride & Prejudice, so when I saw the DVD on Target.com for $20, I bought it. I think I'm gonna watch it tomorrow. I really loved the book, so I'm expecting good things from the miniseries, too. Besides, 6 hours of P&P for $20? Sounds like a good deal to me.

I'm really looking forward to seeing P&P. I saw the Keira Knightly version and was pretty disappointed. It was okay, but she just isn't a good Lizzie.

I was off work tonight for the first time in 5 nights so I wanted to go see a movie so I saw Reno 911!: Miami. Let's just put it this way if you like the TV show you will like the movie. Since it's a movie it has cursing and nudity so some can say it's even better but really if you enjoy the TV show you should like the movie it's good stuff for the most part. Though even if you are a fan of the show this can easily wait until DVD.

Verdict: 6.5 out of 10
