Well I have been looking forward to this movie and was very excited I was about to see it. The word of mouth on this movie as been great and for good reason.
It's about the Zodiac serial killer saga during the very late 60s and 70s and even beyond that.
The movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes long but heck I did not even notice for a movie that was not some huge epic I am shocked the movie kept my attention so well it really got you into the story like you where there and it moved great, I never looked at my watch once it was just sooo good.
The ending man very very intriguing after I write this I'm going too look up more about the story.
This was pretty much a flawless movie I can't even think of one thing I did not like about it. The movie was just sooo real it was crazy. During one of the murders though **** I started to move around in my seat it was just a bit too real for me for a few seconds.
Not everyone is going to like this movie if you don't like talkie movies then well not sure this film is for you.
Verdict: 10 out of 10
I know the year just started but I have a feeling this movie will be hard to not be very high up on my end of 07 list.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading the special Spidey 3 extended preview from the NBC homepage. I've been staring at the "Be patient . . . . the download should take 5 or 6 minutes" for the last half an hour. I've lost patience.
**Edit** Of course the second I complain it pops up! I have one word . . .WOW!
I watched a lot of DVDs (a mix of movies and TV) this weekend due to being camped on the couch! At least I got to catch up on all the DVDs I bought and haven't watched!
Here are my quickie reviews:
Match Point: Odd yet engrossing. I love British flicks and this was a very British movie. Unexpected ending left me wondering. Jonathan Rhys Myers was nice to look at for 2 hours, too!
Prime: Lightly funny and heartwarming along with cringe worthy moments. Good chick flick to watch with your best friend. Still contemplating if I liked the ending.
Shopgirl: My favorite of the bunch. This is a story that makes you think, cry, and laugh. Loved it. I fell in love with the characters and still love them despite their acts of stupidity.
Extras - Season 1: British comedy at it's finest. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are freakin' hilarious.
Hustle - Seasons 1 and 2: British television at it's best. Nice mix of smart writing, humor, thrills and drama. Each episode keeps you guessing until the end. If you haven't watched this yet, you need to ASAP! My husband is even addicted.
Idiocracy - (husband's pick) Mike Judge fans will love it, everybody else will be scratching their heads.
There's more, but they're old movies everybody has seen!

Hey, SB - hope you're feeling MUCH better! A weekend of watching movies is always a good thing, but your reason for relaxing on the couch was a doozy (and not a good one at that!).
A few years ago, I went on a Jonathan Rhys Myers movie "binge" (following "Bend It Like Beckham") and he was so scary in everything that I quickly lost interest in him again. Then "Match Point" came along and he was charming in this as well. (*sigh* Wish I weren't 10+ years older than he is - it makes me feel decrepit!).
As for Extras, that show is a hoot! I was working in England in the fall, and got a chance to see six episodes in a row, and was hooked. My favorite cringe-moment may just be when Ricky knocked over the little person. SO awkward. SO painful. SO perfect!
As for me, over the weekend I held a "Keen Eddie" marathon. Only 13 episodes - I vowed never to watch FOX again after it was canceled, and so far, I'm doing pretty good. I can't even express how much I enjoyed that show - best music/tv combination
ever!

Thanks for the heads up on Johanthan Rhys Myers's creepy stuff. I'll heed your warning. I quite enjoy the image I have of him right now! Although, he was only charming in Match Point up until it took that
turn towards the end, (you know what I mean.). I didn't see that coming! And go ahead and rob the cradle!
My favorite Extras was "Patrick Stewart." I lost it every time Stewart said "Make it so." I'm a HUGE Star Trek: TNG fan and I loved how they poked fun at it! In general, every scene Andy spent with his agent had me in stitches. Too funny. I've only seen two episodes of second season courtesy of a podcast and free HBO during my stay in Salt Lake, and I loved both episodes. I don't have HBO at home so I'm going to have to wait until DVD's come out or just splurge now and buy the season on iTunes!

The two I'd really avoid if I were you are "Velvet Goldmine" and "Gormenghast" (couldn't even finish that one, and I'm a stubborn movie viewer!). And believe me, I know the scene you are referring to (*fans self*)!
Go ahead and splurge on the iTunes purchase for Extras... I think that Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant really hit their stride with this series. You can watch these again and again! Now that I think of it, I may be making that same purchase on iTunes myself tonight!

Plot summary for
Velvet Goldmine (1998)
advertisement
In 1984, British newspaper reporter Arthur Stuart is investigating the career of 1970s glam rock star Brian Slade, who was heavily influenced in his early years by American rock singer Curt Wild, whose show was quite crazy for his time. Written by Anonymous
1971: Glamrock explodes all over the world and challanges the seriousness within the flowerpower generation by means of glitter and brutal music. Brian Slade, a young rockstar, inspires numerous teenage boys and girls to paint their nails and explore their own sexuality. In the end Slade destroys himself. Unable to escape the role he created for himself, he plots his own murder. When his fans discovers that the murder is a fake, his star falls and he is forgotten about.
1984: Arthur, a journalist working for a New York newspaper, gets assigned the story about the fake murder of Brian Slade. When Arthur was young and grew up in Manchester, he was more than a fan of Slade. Reluctantly he accepts the assignment and starts to investigate what happened his old glamrock hero. Written by Jack Fairy
via Yahoo:
MPAA Rating: R for strong sexual content, nudity, language and drug use.
This definitely wasn't a bad movie - just deeply disturbing to anyone (such as myself) who was watching for Jonathan Rhys Meyers. He played the character well - too well! - and as his character progressed (regressed?) through the movie, I just grew more and more uncomfortable.
Question is, when did I become such a lightweight?

I saw a clip of Extra's (don't have HBO).
It was with Orlando Bloom and he was making fun of Johnny Depp the whole time, sayine how much better he is over Johnny.
It made me laugh quite a bit.

One of my friends went to see
Zodiac today. She lives in Vallejo where a couple of the murders took place. When she sent out an email to a group of us about the movie, one of her friends who grew up in Vallejo sent her this, (her mom passed away recently):
AAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNND....they guy they suspected for years and years until his death (Leigh Allen)...had a crush on my mother. A couple of months ago, we found a card from him in her personal items at my dad's house. "Uh hello? VPD? Did you still need that DNA? We might have some!!!!" SERIOUS. Way weird! HUH?

with the big snow here & still coming, I'm going to be a Star Wars geek starting up episode IV now, my favorite. Oh Harrison Ford when you were young and had no grey hair

The originals are my favorites as well - HBO has been playing them on kind of an extended loop for the past few weeks, so I've been watching them in snippets (I always come in part way through, or have to leave before I can see the full episode).
So over the weekend, I finally sat down and watched them all in a row (insomnia sometimes has its advantages).
You know, even 30 years later, the special effects are still pretty good! And I think the characters are all so much more engaging than the I, II, and III movies.
Harrison Ford is the one who makes all the difference - he is kind of the everyman who lets us watch the strange, foreign scenes through his eyes. This smart-alec, accessible character carried us through the series with him. In the "other three" we got... what... Jar-Jar Binks?
Didn't cut it for me - I never liked I and II, and couldn't even be bothered to see III.

III was actually *really* good, in a Shakespearean tragedy sort of way - Anakin's transformation was amazing, and the way it pointed so clearly to part IV was great. I never saw II, but I hated I - III made up for the badness that was I.

I got to say, "Thank you, spoiler alert!" to my co-worker this morning. She ruined the ending to The Departed.
I honestly don't care, I'll see the movie anyway, but I'm not going to let her know that.

As for Star Wars. I really liked III, but I also liked II. I'm really indifferent towards I, I haven't seen it in years, though I remember hating some parts (Jar Jar and the never ended speed-race). I think you need to see III just to finish off the movies. I mean, really. It was good.
Return of the Jedi will always be my favorite though.
