bubble you should read about heady lemarr. She was brillant. She and another person patented a idea for tech that was close to modern day cell phones. Rent if you can find it, DW Griffth movies. Those are awesome. And lillian gish...so brillant as well. Target has what ever happened to baby jane, but it's 20 bucks.

Keeping up with this thread, I had to go back and find your post about Heddy. I knew about her patent but haven't seen her in anything. I have a picture from the 30's or 40's with my father-in-law in it at a bar with 4 other gentleman. Someone has wrote on the back that she begged him to marry her. I am computer challenged so in the middle of having someone download the pic so I can email it to her to see if she can identify the other men. Yes! Her website said I could send it to them for possible ID. I wish I had it with me - the things this man wrote, the context, he's definitely not English!

Any movies you can refer me to? Thanks!

OH, you're in for a laugh-fest. I just hope you're not easily offended. wink.gif

Hee. Definitely. I think my fav parts were incredibly offensive. I laughed so hard at "This is Alan Keyes. He is a geniuine chocolate-face." So wrong, yet so funny. Also the Kazakh national anthem: classic.

So, did anyone else besides me buy "Borat" on Tuesday? That movie totally cracks me up.

I went to see "Wild Hogs" last night. It was pretty good. Funny, not as funny as "Borat" but what is? LOL

That movie with John Travolta...lol. I would never see that, I'm sorry. Lol.

Bourne Ultimatum

I am so excited about this movie. I thought the second one was so good, and the same director is back for the third one! I also hope that somehow Marie survived the accident in the last movie and will be back, cause I want Bourne happy again...

for the people here who love classics- men in white. It's clark gable but really very good. Nice drama

Caught Dial M for Murder on one of the cable channels the other night. I'd forgotten how much I liked that movie. Ray Milan was so smooth and evil at the same time.

One of my friends went to see Zodiac today. She lives in Vallejo where a couple of the murders took place. When she sent out an email to a group of us about the movie, one of her friends who grew up in Vallejo sent her this, (her mom passed away recently):

AAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNND....they guy they suspected for years and years until his death (Leigh Allen)...had a crush on my mother. A couple of months ago, we found a card from him in her personal items at my dad's house. "Uh hello? VPD? Did you still need that DNA? We might have some!!!!" SERIOUS. Way weird! HUH?

ohmy.gif

I saw Zodiac trailer for the first time today. It felt a bit strange: I grew up about 20 minutes from Vallejo (pronounced Vul-lay-ho, not Valley-jo, for those of you not from Nor-Cal), and around here the Zodiac murders have always felt like a "local" story. The Zodiac Shack is still standing not far away. Somehow it's just hard for me to see it as a big movie.

It's a top notch film I might see it again this weekend instead of 300. Which I don't really want to see anyway...waiting for other people I know to see it before I do.

Wow. Yeah, these events didn't happen that long ago, or very far away for a lot of people, and it sounds like little shockwaves are still being felt. I got creeped out a bit because of the parts of the story that happened in So. Cal as well. UCR, San Bernardino, I-5 corridor, all places I know well. And then to have that seriously twisted, creep, Allen living for so many years up here. . . . . fascinating story.

If you can, try to find the films Hedy Lamarr did in Germany before moving to the US. By the standards of the day, they were amazing.

I can't watch most new movies these days - too much crap, technology and violence instead of plot and character. It gets depressing after a while.

I like to watch films like:
M - Peter Lorre (you'll never whistle In The Hall Of The Mountain King again)
Public Enemy - Edward G. Robinson
Little Caesar - Cagney's best
Scarface - Paul Muni's original beats the uberviolent remake by miles!
...and lots of other classics

I wouldn't say I hated it - I "got" why people loved it, but didn't feel this way myself.

Maybe it was the huge, overpowering family... I just couldn't relate. Where I come from, we survive by pretending that we don't even recognize the people we're related to!

Now, for a couple of classic movies that I will drop everything to watch:

Charade (an older Cary Grant, but he's still wonderful)
The Bishop's Wife (a magical younger Cary Grant, see above post about his wonderful-ness)
To Sir, With Love (funky, 60s, London, with a very dashing Sidney Poitier)
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (my favorite cheesy musical, featuring sexist songs about Sabine women)

Also, i just saw the last king of scotland in the thatres. That is quite an intense movie. what's really scary, too, is that this stuff actually happened, and that there are some really nasty people in power.

PS i really liked the scot's guy's accent rolleyes.gif

Poor Bourne.

By the way, have you seen previews for the Shooter movie?
It sounds like the same plot as Bourne!!! I am pretty angry about that.

Also, I love Charade. I could watch it all day long.
Cary Grant is my hero
What a great ending to that movie.
