First thing I thought of when I saw this thread wasn't a movie, but in Resident Evil 2 the video game. Dunno if anyone remembers it but there was a part where you're walking by a 2-way mirror and a dog jumps out of it. Scared the living **** out of me.

Are we supposed to agree/disagree or add our own to the list?
About Schmidt - Kathy Bates strips and gets into the hot tub with Jack Nicholson. (I know - Not fair)
The Exorcist - Father Karras is listening to the tape by himself.
Aliens - "That's inside this room!"
Day of the Dead - The good guys get locked in the silo section of the mine with the quarantined zombies.
Evil Dead 2 - Ash goes into the fruit cellar to get the pages.

Scariest scene for me was back in high school going to see Halloween 2 at the theater. When Jamie Lee's character is running through the hospital parking lot. I think she gets into a car or is standing near a car and you suddenly see Michael Myers in the (outside door) rear view mirror. He was walking towards her. For some odd reason that scared me so bad!
Next day they were showing a clip on Siskel and Ebert, and they showed that scene and I screamed so loud my mom was ironing and she jumped two feet I swear.
I've seen all those movies listed above, but I still list that as my biggest fright. No idea why I got that scared over that scene.
Stupid movie too, but back then it didn't seem as fake as it does now.

it's hard to have a list of scariest movies and have everyone agree.
different things scare different people.
for instance...the first time i saw the chatterer in "hellraiser" i almost cried like a little girl.
the scene in TCM II where leatherface cuts off the dude's face and makes the chick wear it...then the dude wakes up and sees her wearing his face...whoa. out of control nightmares.
the hook scene in TCM, the original. ugh.
any scene with pennywise in "it".
when the kids are all hiding under the tables in "wrong turn" (inbreeding and cannibalism always make me feel a tad uneasy)

The needle pit from "Saw 2" has got to be one of the sickest scary movie scenes ever. I got a 24 year old friend who practically bursts into tears whenever he sees a syringe now.

crappy movie, but that scene was fun...good call.
also forgot the bunny/graveyard scene from "house of 1,000 corpses"

Now that we're on the subject, DON'T go see Saw3. Its to the point where the movie doesn't make sense and its just a 2 hour snuff film. Don't waste your 7 bucks.

I remember playing the remake of Resident Evil 1 for the Nintendo Gamecube. You're walking down a narrow corridor with many windows. You don't know what's coming around the next corner. You get half way down the hall when CRASH!! A zombie dog breaks through the window and attaches itself to you!!! That was one of the scariest things that ever happened to me, and it was only a game.

i know this is a little weird, and i probably seem like such a wuss, but i can't watch beetlejuice or the nightmare before christmas. for some reason those two movies scare the crap outta me! it's also bad cause beetle juice is supposed to be a comedy.

Of the ones first mentioned I only agree with a couple of them. Most modern scary moves are just a gorefest where you don't care about any of the characters.
Now the one I agree with big time is Danny running into the two ghost girls in The Shining. That freaks me out to this day. Also the scene at the end where Wendy is running around the hotel and SHE starts seeing the ghosts. Creeeeeepy.
Also pretty much every kill in Alien is gold. It's the lack of actualy seeing much of anything that gets you. The scene near the end where Ripley hears Lambert being killed over the intercom is pretty distrubing.
Another huge one is the opening scene of Jaws where Chrissie gets it. Again, you don't really see anything, its the sound that creeps you out. Only later when Hooper is examining the remains do you see how she was just torn apart.
And last but certanly not least, the hook scene from the original TCM. God that movie is diiiiiiistrubing...
Whats funny is I have found more games freaking me out recently then any movie has been able to. The Resident Evil games are brilliant for awesome scares.
Most recently the one that gets me is in WoW when C'thun whispers random creepy things to you. Nothing like having headphones on and hearing a quiet "Your heart will explode" whispered into your ear out of nowhere.

My top horror list would include, in no specific order...
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Alien
Blair Witch Project
Amityville Horror (original)
Another good game that scared me was Diablo. It was so dark, moody, and the sound/music was haunting.

I finaly just saw Slither tonight too. Good stuff!
Very gory, but very funny with a lot of LOL moments. I wouldn't say it's scary though, I jumped like once I think when a bunch of zombies came out of nowhere.
For any Office fans looking to see it just cause Jenna is in it - fair warning that she has like maybe 3-4 miniutes of screen time tops. It's kinda too bad cause the one exchange over the radio with the Sheriff is hillarious.

Found this little article in regards to INDIANA JONES 4. WHAT A SHAME, in my opinion

Lucas killed Indiana Jones 4
Posted : November 7, 2006
Writer : Clint Morris
If you wanna blame anyone for the tardiness of the fourth ?Indiana Jones? film ? a film many predict may never happen, if only because its been off and on more times than a kettle ? you can probably take aim at George Lucas.
According to Screenwriter Frank Darabont (?The Green Mile?), the fourth film was ready to go two years ago ? until Lucas decided he didn?t like his script. Considering Steven Spielberg thought the script was the best Jaunt Indy had had since ?Raiders of the Lost Ark?, it sounds like Uncle George needs his head read.
?That was terrifically frustrating?, Darabont said in an exclusive interview with CHUD. ?I worked for over a year on that; I worked very close with Steven Spielberg. He was ecstatic with the result and was ready to shoot it two years ago. He was very, very happy with the script and said it was the best draft of anything since Raiders of the Lost Ark. That?s really high praise and gave me a real sense of accomplishment, especially when you love the material you?re working on as much as I love the Indiana Jones films.?
Lucas then came to Darabont and stuck a stake through his script.
?Lucas read it and said, ?Yeah, I don?t think so, I don?t like it.? And then he resets it to zero when Spielberg is ready to shoot it that coming year, [which] is a real kick to the nuts. You can only waste so much time and so many years of your life on experiences like that, you can only get so emotionally invested and have the rug pulled out from under you before you say enough of that.?
The proofs in ?The Phantom Menace?, I believe. Throw away the key.

Day of the Dead is my favorite horror film of all time. Where's Dawn?
Faces of Death bores me to death. It's just pure exploitation. I like my horror to at least have a plot. But if you are in to that, you should check out Traces of Death. All that stuff is 100% real whereas much of Faces was staged.
