There is a movie thread here.

B.J's role was in the TV commercials, but the others weren't so you should put a spoiler alert on your thread. Just in case. smile.gif

I thought it was Craig's role that I saw in the TV commercials and trailers, not BJs. That was a surprise to me. *shrugs*

The movie theater looked empty to me when I was by it tonite. But I picked up a dvd. I'm in a scary mood, so I got the classic horror, last house on the left. There really seems to be a poor selection at the video store.

HBO (well, the HBO channels that I have) had Star Wars A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith, Fever Pitch and 40 Year old Virigin on tonight at the same time. Even though I have seen all of those several times, I had a hard time deciding. I went with the Sith. Its been awhile since I watched it. And that History Channel documentary that was on the other day got me jonesing for some inter-galactic warfare. Oh, and Ewan. . .

^^ Oooh, that's a tough choice, but I think you chose wisely. Wasn't that History Channel documentary awesome? I loved it! It was so well done and insightful, I was really impressed. I think a Star Wars marathon is now in order. happy.gif

^^ Yes! I always watch the Star Wars stuff on cable -- did you see the George Lucas bio on the Biography Channel just the other day? But somehow they always disappoint, just a little. But that one was really great. I have watched it twice already. I guess its something about having been a lit major, etc. that made me LOVE all the mythology and religion stuff that was in that one. It was ggggraaape!

Oh, and I already ordered a marathon for the summer. My husband . . . prepare yourself ... is NOT a Star Wars fan. And in the 7 years we have been together (5 of them as man and wife) I have tried to get him to sit and actually WATCH them with me. He cannot get through them. I know, I know, its ridiculous, but what can I say, I lobe him. But he is totally doing it this summer. I have had enough of planning Star Wars Trivial Pursuit parties where he has to play bartender because he can't or won't join in! Its pathetic.

They're playing The Hudsucker Proxy on HBO. I hadn't watched that in over 10 years. Here's my review:

I mentioned this movie a few pages back when I watched it the other day. Love it!

I also thought the History Channel Star Wars special was excellent. ESB is on right now. My favorite part when I was a kid- when they were in the giant slug/bug/worm things stomach.

My brother can win that in 2 rounds. (should I not admit that? LOL. Heck, it's not me. Everyone else plays in teams against my brother and cousin who play by themselves, and I'm still lucky to get 3 pegs with a partner.) Harry Potter trivia- that I'd kick butt on. wink.gif

That's why I love Star Wars though. Grew up with it. It's very nostalgic for me.

No, I missed the George Lucas bio. sad.gif I'll keep my eye out for it though and hope they replay it. I taped the History Channel documentary and I think that'll kick-start my marathon. I LOVE all that mythology and religion stuff too. I really loved how in the documentary they talked about Joseph Campbell and his influence on George Lucas. All that stuff about the hero's journey... so beautiful. I've read a couple of his books and he mentions Star Wars in them a few times.

I LOVE the Coen brothers! Absolute 100% geniuses, and so funny. My favorite is The Big Lebowski (the dude, or el duderino if you're not into that whole brevity thing laugh.gif ) I just read that they debuted their new movie at Cannes, called 'No Country For Old Men', and it's supposed to be amazing. I think it comes out November this year and I'm SO excited! biggrin.gif

Cool! We also watched "The Man Who Wasn't There" last week for the first time. It had a very stylized Film Noir feel, and Billy Bob Thornton was amazing.

By the way, I think "extruded plastic dingus" would make a good screen name. laugh.gif

I saw Shrek the Third. There was a couple of funny moments, but I wasn't overly impressed; I didn't think Mike Myers did as well as he did in the 1st and 2nd. Gotta love Lancelot, though wink.gif

Ok all..

As promised, I am here to report on my viewing of "Knocked Up".

Please do keep in mind that I am VERY easily amused...so if you end up watching it and don't feel the same way as I do...sorry. tongue.gif

The movie has been EXTREMELY hyped up, so I came in with BIG EXPECTATIONS. The 40-Year Old Virgin is one of my favorite movies, so the bar was raised mighty high. I thought it was pretty freakin funny. There were lots of moments where I laughed outloud. I was a little sketchy at first, seeing Seth Rogen play the leading man(..and let me just say...there's something about that him that I find cute.blink.gif)..but it made perfect sense. He played a great 'pothead loser' and Katherine Hiegl is definitely his polar opposite..successful and ambitious. Seeing a movie about 2 people from a one night stand trying to 'make a family work' sounds a bit far fetched (and it kinda is) but the interaction between the two characters are true to life. I don't want to give anything away but I'll just share thise much with you...there's a s3x scene (yes, while she's pregnant) it was a great mixture of funny...and wrong (does that make sense?? huh.gif ). I don't want to give up anymore details..but i'd like to add that the fact that: BJ Novak, Craig Robinson and Steve Carrell are in the movie made it that much sweeter for me. They all just have 'bit' roles (Steve plays himself) but I know you all understand that feeling of...hmm..'pride' and butterflies in your tummy whenever you see ANY Dunder Mifflinite in a movie. wub.gif

Long story short: Its worth watching in the theatres. Let me know what you think of it when you watch it. wink.gif

The last film I watched was the 1952 Howard Hawks one entitled "Monkey Business". It stars Cary Grant & Ginger Rogers & Marilyn Monroe has a brief part too. Cary Grant & Ginger Rogers play Barnaby & Edwina Fulton, a married couple. Here are a couple of plot summaries taken from the film page over on imdb.com

QUOTE
Barnaby Fulton is a research chemist working on a fountain of youth pill for a chemical company. While trying a sample dose on himself, he accidentally gets a dose of a mixture added to the water cooler and believes his potion is what is working. The mixture temporarily causes him to feel and act like a teenager, including correcting his vision. When his wife gets a dose that is even larger, she regresses even further into her childhood. When an old boyfriend meets her in this state, he believes that her never wanting to see him again means a divorce and a chance for him.
&

QUOTE
Barnaby Fulton, a chemist, is working on a youth formula for a chemical company by testing it on chimps. His very understanding wife, Edwina, helps him by being very supportive. His boss' secretary helps by displaying her legs, which are wearing Barnaby's indestructible hose. When Esther, the chimp, mixes her own formula, and it gets in the water cooler in the lab, the fun begins! Barnaby goes back in age twice, as does Edwina. Wild rides in a hot sports car, roller skating, jive dancing, and scalping Edwina's childhood boyfriend, Hank Entwhistle, all ensue. Barnaby and Edwina live happily ever after, supervising Esther's formula-making.

This film was absolutely hilarious. Both Cary Grant & Ginger Rogers were marvelous & Marilyn Monroe was absolutely charming in her brief role as the secretary. One scene that stood out was when Edwina took the formula. Shortly after Oxley took the formula he decided to sit down. As he was doing that Edwina slipped a pie on the seat so when he sat down he would sit on the pie. When Barnaby said "Oh my" she suddenly burst into a song & dance about pies, which made me laugh so hard. Another classic scene was when Barnaby joined the group of little children playing indians. Seeing him act like a kid was priceless.

Ginger Roger's character takes the formula

Howard Hawks is a brilliant director. He's very good at producing screwball comedies & another good example is my favourite film, "Bringing Up Baby". This film has quickly became of my favourites. There was also a Mr.Peabody in this film too, which was kinda interesting.

Alright, I just need to say this. As much as I love Steve Carell and everything he's ever done, I'm not looking forward to Evan Almighty. It looks really lame. And that makes me sad.

Also, I was home yesterday and Michael Moore was on Oprah. And even though I can't really tolerate either of them, he was discussing his new documentary "Sicko." Since I work in the healthcare field I was intrigued and was fully expecting him to bash the healthcare industry and for me to add more reasons to my list of why I don't like him. But I was pleasantly surprized. It's not an attack on the healthcare industry, it's an attack on the health insurance industry. Amen!

For the first time in my life I'm optimistically anticipating the release of one of his documentaries. I think the appeal for me is that it doesn't appear to have a hidden political agenda supporting it. This one is something that is for everyone because at some time in our lives we all will have to battle it out with an insurance company. Whether it's trying to find a company that will accept you if you are low-income or terminally ill, or if you have a medical bill that is denied, etc. Everyone has to deal with insurance companies, regardless of political affiliation.

I just love this movie so much. I've seen it at least a dozen times, and I still tear up during The Kiss every time. I'm not sure what it is about it that gets to me (it's Eugene Levy, for crying out loud!), but it really does.
Also, have you ever heard Eugene Levy talk about Catherine O'Hara? It's adorable. It's so obvious that they have a truly special bond and love for each other. I love watching those two act together.
