Everyone should go see Borat. You will laugh.

I missed that "Little Miss Sunshine" movie with Steve in it. I hear only good things so far. Anyone seen it?

soooo...i have been asked to view "the break up" with vince vaughn and jennifer aniston.
question...is this a chick flick?
i've heard it's more of a dark comedy, are the voices wrong?

I thought it was chick flick. I didnt like it because the movie seemed to drag on forever. Also I liked the way it ended but it could have be written better.

I saw Borat. It was hysterical but disgusting. Not as funny as I thought it was going to be.

With a 93% Fresh rating on the Tomatometer, it has to be good.

Compare that with the 29% that Saw III got.

When I went to see Borat this weekend, there was a preview for the "Reno 911" movie (which looks hilarious by the way). It was Lt Dangle (the one with the short shorts) and one of the other officers supposedly at a screening of their new film at the movie lot. As they are taking the cameras on a tour of the studio on their way to the screening, who should happen to walk by but Dwight (who Lt Dangle introduces to the camera as TV's Rain Wilson). I can't remember exactly what was said but I know the other officer asks him "Who are you again?". It was pretty funny. biggrin.gif Just wondering if anyone else saw that.

And yet didn't Saw III have a bigger opening weekend and make more money than The Break-Up? Go figure.

oh dear. I should read sometimes rolleyes.gif

I love the Saw movies. It's interesting to see what people will do in that sort of situation and it's a lot scary when someone gauges their own eye out than when someone else does it for them.
Nicolita
good point.
some of the scenes were intense...but i think it could have been a brilliant movie(s) if the right actors/directors were involved with it.
it had great potential, just never realized i.m.o.
but yeah, the eye thing...and the head/jaw contraption...yikes.

Has anybody seen the newest Spidey 3 trailer at ifilms? Sam Raimi can do no wrong...starting with Evil Dead all the way up until now.

Spidey 1 was a little weak, but all origin stories are...except for Unbreakable. That's the best ever.

What is with you and Unbreakable? I'm suprised that movie has even one fan.

I've seen the Spiderman 3 trailer, and yes, Raimi rocks. I was expecting Venom to look stupid on film, but I think he looks pretty cool.

Thanks, Pam-Pong.

This chick gets it.

The biggest problem with watching Unbreakable is that it's so slow moving. That's the point. The action movie is hinted at in a sequel that never got made/was never supposed to be made. My friends and I talk about this one for hours sometimes, a lot like Dawn of the Dead.

In a sense, it's the Office of superhero movies. What makes it great isn't what's thrown in your face. It's the stuff that's buried just under the surface. A couple of my buddies cannot stand The Office. They just don't find it funny. We know it's brilliant. It takes a certain mindset to enjoy either.

Quick Edit: More than anything, you really have to pay attention.

I've seen three different Spidey 3 trailers. All three point to an awesome third installment. I'm a spider-man freak, so I'm pretty picky about the movies. It's looks a little darker than the first two, but with Venom invovled it has to be. Peter has some inner demons to work through. I agree Sam Raimi can do no wrong. The Evil Dead series rocked. I trust him with Spider-man - the guy did have Spider-man painted on his bedroom wall when he was kid after all!

Spidey 2 was far better than Spidey 1, but hey the story has to start somewhere, right? Of course, Doc Ock has always been one of my favorite villians, so the second installment had me grinning from ear to ear just for that element!

As for Unbreakable, it's one of the best!

Off with her head!

Hey, I noticed that zombie movies have gotten alot of love on this thread. I just bought this great new book. "The zombie survival guide, complete protection from the living dead" by Max Brooks. It's a very practical how-to-guide to surviving an attack by flesh eating zombies. Here is a sample of some of the tips it gives

1. Organize before they rise!
2. They feel no fear, why should you?
3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
4. Blades don't need reloading.
5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
7. Get out of the car, get onto the bike.
8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!
9. No place is safe, only safer.
10. The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.

The best part of the book is the chapter of recorded attacks. It covers documented "historical" zombie incidents going all the way back to 60,000 b.c. Some of those stories are extremely creepy.

I finally found the novel The Virgin Suicides written by Jeffrey Eugindes (sp?). It is SO good--as good as the movie if not better. One of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've encountered.

For what it's worth, here's my list of must-see films:

Most Cary Grant Movies (North by Northwest, An Affair to Remember, The Bishop's Wife)
The Thin Man (someone should re-make this)
The Third Man (great musical score)
Casa Blanca (great dialogue)
The Usual Suspects (a line of dialogue from Casa Blanca!)
Citizen Kane (duh)
Breaker Morant (unknown, but one of the greatest court dramas ever)
Bridge on the River Kwai (I love anything Alec Guiness)
The Empire Strikes Back (best Star Wars by far)
The Apartment (I also love anything Jack Lemmon)
Local Hero (a nice little film - rent it!)
Rear Window (edge-of-your seat thrilling)
Forbidden Planet (schlocky 50's sci-fi, but really good)
Sunset Boulevard (creepy-cool)
The Manchurian Candidate (1962) (also creepy-cool)
To Kill a Mockingbird (Thoughtful)
12 Angry Man (also thoughtful)
Blazing Saddles (funniest thing ever filmed)
Network (my aunt is in it as an extra!)
Field of Dreams (I cried when Ray "had a catch" with his Dad - and I'm a man in my 40's)

Ive just seen The Queen recently an it was really great. Helen mirren is so powerful. I hope she will get the nod this year, she deserves it. The emotion was so powerful in it. the commercials tried to make it seem like a comedy, imo. i mean, there were funny (ironic funny) parts but for the most part, i thought it was rather serious.

i hate when commercials do that. stranger than fiction was good enough for people to get tickets expecting a night of good laughs but leaving the theater satisfied without them. did you ever see Because of Winn Dixie (i know i know it may seem immature, but the book was awesome) i went into the theater thinking it was going to be a kinda dumb little kid flick but that movie made me cry! sure there were a few moments when you smiled and rolled your eyes, but when the main character was out looking for winn dixie in the rain i just started tearing up. it wasn't a funny movie-i thought it was quite serious!

this is all in my opinion. please post what you thought of it, agent michael scarn!

i totally agree, i love emme thompson. i especially loved her in love actually, her character made me cry.

i actually wwent and saw the most recent james bond movie yesterday. it was soo good. the new james bond is really good. it kind of different from the other ones though, it's darker and much more serious. there's less comedy and more james bond being a hitman.
