I definitely think you should watch it. smile.gif It's a movie about a Filipino american family. The son in the movie is experiencing what most second-gen filipinos experience..the fork in the road between the American Culture we've embraced and the Filipino Culture we've been raised with. I related to EVERYTHING the main character went through...the feeling of 'embarassment' when bringing my non-filipino friends to the house..in fear that they'd question my HUGE fork and spoon in the living room..or the Last Supper pictures in every room...not to mention the filpino 'smell' in my house. =P I didn't fully embrace the filipino culture until I was into high school and even more so as I got older. You should definitely pick it up. It made me proud to see a movie about Filipinos on the big screen...without being in The Philippines. tongue.gif

Rent it and let me know what you think! smile.gif

I watched Strictly Ballroom tonight. Really good movie. It was very quirky and almost "campy" at times but I really liked it.

oooh, bubble, I looove that movie! For some reason that's one of the few movies that always makes me cry at the end. It's funny though, it's not the romance that makes me tear up...it's when the dad asks the mom to dance. sad01.gif Wah.

i do smile.gif

i actually really like all the movies by this group of actors, but my favourite was best in show. i just love hte commentators, they were hysterical.

A Mighty Wind and Best in Show are my favorites by that crew. So good.

Saw
Earth Girls are Easy
the other night . . . . .

campy beyond belief, but I actually enjoyed it, (okay, except maybe for Jeff Goldblume). Plus I'd never realized that where "I'm a Blond" came from. laugh.gif

Sorry, RC, but I have to ask.....You call it "babysitting" when you watch your own kids? huh.gif

I've heard a few other fathers say this, and it always seems so strange to me. I've never heard a woman refer to watching her kids as 'babysitting'.

Is this a total guy thing?

Yep, I think it's a guy thing. I've always heard it called that with other men.

I should probably not use that term, it makes it sound like a chore. It's definetly not a chore, my kids are really fun to be with.

We saw Knocked Up today--it was pretty good. A little longer than it needed to be, but it had it's moments. I liked it, but there are people who are saying it was funnier than 40 Year Old Virgin, and I don't agree with that. Tom (I'm tired of typing my husband), saw 13 and he said it was good, better than 12 but not as good as 11. If that helps any!!

Watching Shrek now.......god how I love this movie, the only thing that still grates is knowing that Cameron Diaz is Fiona.

My all time favorite lines from Shrek:

Lord Farquaad: Tell me where are the others.
Gingerbread Man: Eat me.
[spits]

[about Snow White]
Magic Mirror: Although she lives with seven other men, she's not easy.

The Donkey: C'mon, princess, you're not that ugly. All right, you are ugly. But you're only like this at night. Shrek's ugly 24/7.

No. This movie is about a college student who gets stuck in an elevator during an all-night power outage. He bonds with a girl on the elevator. But he doesn't know who she is or even what she looks like.

The movie is about him trying to find out who she is. It's a funny romantic comedy.

Waterboy is on now. And just saw my favorite scene...

Mama Boucher: You gonna lose all your fancy "fools' balls" games! And your gonna fail your big exam! Because school is?
Bobby Boucher: The devil?
[Mama gasps]
Bobby Boucher: Everything is the devil to you, Mama! Well, I like school, and I like football! And I'm gonna keep doin' them both because they make me feel good!
Bobby Boucher: [Bobby runs out, slamming the door, then comes back in] And by the way, Mama. "Alligators" are ornery 'cause of their "Medula Oblongata"!
Bobby Boucher: [Bobby runs back out, then back in again] And I like Vicki, and she like me back! And she showed me her boobies and I like them too!
[slams door on Mama]

i started getting all of my dvd's together......I previously had the disks in a dvd holder binder/wtf-ever and I store the dvd cases up in the attic.

I bought these huge dvd cases to attempt to put them in some sort of order.......We have alot of dvd's, i mean ALOT. We have been buying them since 1998 when they first came out. The past few years I havent bought truckloads as I used to, now its only carfulls of dvd's and I am tired of hubby saying 'i cant find this movie' 'i cant see where my money goes' 'i cant see something that is obviously right in front of me'....... yeah that one was good huh?

How many in your DVD collection? We've got about 1,200 or so. I used to buy everything that came out with those great coupons years ago (the early online sites used to have $10 off DVD coupons).

So let us know if those cases work well. I probably don't have as many DVD's, but I'm still running into a serious storage/access problem at this point. I've been replacing all my VHS with DVD's over the last year or so, and the bonus is I save serious space. But now I'm thinking of ditching the jewel cases, and trying something like you've got. Plus right now, I've got them scattered in various drawers, cases, cabinets all over. Having them together in one place is my goal.

We have over 3000, yeah thats alot, I dont call myself a shopaholic for nothing wink.gif I used 100's of $10 off coupons for dvd's too.........you dont see them now since dvd's and players are not a new thing anymore. Buy.com had a $10 off $30 around Christmas time using Google Checkout and I think i used that about 10 times for various things.

This is what I bought first, but returned because the hinges were not that sturdy(this one holds 1000):

I ended up buying 8 of these(each holds 424 dvds) It was $36 and change including shipping for 4 of these, so I spent about $72 for all 8. I forget the site I bought them from, but they have them on eBay under 'dvd storage case' (careful there are 1,000's of them):

This is what I do. I order boxes from the USPS website, priority mail boxes. Why? They are free with free shipping and the particular size below fits dvd cases PERFECTLY, as you can see in a picture below. I think each shipped box comes with 25 priority boxes.

USPS store link (no charge boxes)

This is the box that I use 12x12x8, again FREE and FREE shipping.

Am I cheap? no i call it frugal laugh.gif I store all of the dvd cases in there and then put the boxes in the attic and TA-DA more room!

I have alot of these boxes in the attic and more dvd cases to be put in boxes as well....Oh yeah another project laugh.gif but i just thought my kids could do that. smile.gif

This is an example of mine:

I just got back from seeing Knocked Up. It was hilarious - funnier than 40 Year Old Virgin. Very blue humor - my kind of humor, but surprisingly charming and sweet. Katherine Heigl is terrific, Seth Rogen is chubby and endearing, Paul Rudd amazing! Not to mention The Office cameos like Steve, B.J. and Criag. Go see it!

I have the exact same problem. I have tons of tv shows on DVD which take up a lot of space. I had to resort to placing them over my room, like behind my TV & such. I gotta get an organizer or something.

I just finished watching "Meet Me in St.Louis", which is a marvelous musical. Judy Garland was so charming. The scene where she sang "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas" tugged at my heart strings. However, my favourite scene was where she was dancing with her grandma behind the tree & when she re-emerges she's dancing with John. *So* romantic.

In 2.5 hours TCM will be airing "The Awful Truth" with my all time favourite actor, Cary Grant. I cannot wait as I hear it's a hilarious film.

LOL!! The Waterboy always seems to be on every Sunday when I wake up! I was watching it this morning, too! Not my favorite Adam Sandler movie--that would have to be The Wedding Singer. I have seen that a million times AND my husband & I saw it live during its brief Broadway run. We actually went to the third show they ever played and someone got engaged on stage. But anyway, Waterboy is a fine way to start (and probably end) a Sunday!
