G,
I don't get to this thread enough. Okay, ever. So if this has been posted already, I apologize. Have you seen this
abomination? I'm sure you have.
I love Day of the Dead. For a long time, that was my favorite of the original zombie trilogy. This just makes me feel sick to my stomach. I'll still see it in the theater though.
I can't believe Ving Rhames and Mena Suvari were once in Pulp Fiction and American Beauty. How far they've fallen.
I've come to terms with Dawn 2004, but I don't know if I'll get over this one.
Maybe the remake of The Crazies (Which is sort of what 28 Days Later is anyway) will fix things. I think Romero is supposed to have a hand in the re-writing of that script.
I should probably do some research on that.
Yeah, I saw it. To be honest, when I heard Nick Cannon was casted, I knew it would be a stinker. Still, it's hard to prepare yourself for the big bucket of bad that trailer is.
Anyone interested in zombie films should skip all the flicks made in the past 7 years ('cept
Land or
Shaun) and rent either Dawn or Day of the Dead. Us Romero fans are split on which Dead film is the best (to be fair, Dawn would probably be on top) but you can't go wrong with either film. My personal fave is Day, for three reasons: Joe Pilato, Howard Sherman, and Richard Liberty. Some people have a problem with how over-the-top Pilato's performance is, but I think that's the point. Rhodes freakin' lost it, and no one can portray that
quite like Pilato. Seriously, I don't think there's a scene in that movie featuring Rhodes that doesn't end with him pulling out his gun and shouting a bunch of crazed gibberish. Howard Sherman's Bub paired with Liberty's Dr. "Frankenstein" are the perfect anti-heroes to Rhodes. When Bub
gets ahold of a gun and seeks his revenge at the end* it's hard not to cheer for him, even if he is a flesh-eating ghoul.
..."CHOKE ON 'EM!!"

Diapers you should check out..UHM. I believe gareth is a fan of that site as well. I hope it was you gareth that told me that.
It was me. That place is my other home. I post as "Officefan", gotta represent.
That is a good site for horror news. The webmaster is great at sifting through the rumors and only posts movies that are almost certainly going to get made. Eli Roth even thought enough of the site to give the webmaster a sneak peek at Cabin Fever. However, when he gave the film a mediocre review, the Rothster stopped talking to him.

I love the first ten minutes. But the whole track-star zombie thins just is not realistic.

Why would anybody be able to run faster after they're dead? Running zombies defeat the whole purpose of the genre. Zombies should only be dangerous in large numbers. A well organized team who can actually work together should have a relatively easy time surviving. The tragedy is that people just can't get along.
I posed that question to someone at UHM. He said that since they're dead, the don't have to worry about muscle fatigue. Pshht nothing but a mouth full of greek salad. Even if he was right about that, how do you explain the zombies having the reflexes of a cat? I love slow zombies for the reasons D listed, as well as the false sense of security they give. You can easily outrun a small pack or Romero zombies, but you let your guard down, and you'll be surrounded in a matter of seconds. Then it's lights out.
I could get over the flaws of the remake. Romero described it as a video game, and since Resident Evil blew chunks, at least there's a movie that reproduces the awesomeness of the zombie games. It doesn't try to be what the original was, and I respect that. Compared to the Texas Chainsaw remake, it's friggin' Gone with the Wind.
And the zombie baby was just retarded. C'mon Gunn, you can do better than that. The a-hole yuppie was my favorite character.

Diapers - Are you a fan of Italian horror? I love Argento flicks.
I loves me some Argento. Have you seen Trauma?
Another great Italian director is Lucio Fulci. He made Zombi 2 (the unofficial sequel to Dawn) as well as City of the Living Dead and The Beyond. His films don't make a whole lot of sense, but man are they beautiful. And a zombie fighting a shark? Pure genius.
*Anyone see that SNL Digital Short "
Dear Sister"? It'd probably help that clip make sense.
Oh, and I thought I'd warn that clip features a guy being ripped in half. Enjoy!
