That is why I am curious to hear what MBers in other countries; especially Canada, Britain and France have to say about their healthcare.
Regardless of how it really is in these countries, OUR country has some serious problems regarding healthcare that must be addressed by our government. It's appalling.
Do you mean Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and Cuba, Venezuela and most of Latin America, and Canada, Israel, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc.?
The movie really only makes two points. First, the health care system in America is crooked because it's run by private companies that need to please shareholders. The only way to do that is to turn a profit. The only way to turn a profit is to bring in more than you pay out...and they'll do just about anything to ensure that they don't have to pay out on major claims.
The second part goes into dispelling the myths that we've been told about how inferior the treatment is in countries with universal health care, like how people have to wait twenty-five months to get a life-saving surgery, and when it's finally performed, the doctor has to do it in a dilapidated tent next to a landfill using a rusty machete.
One of the wiser things Moore does in this movie is not try to provide the answer or tell us who to vote for. It's a simple statement: The health care system in America is a rip off and a lot of US citizens aren't covered at all. Let's start talking about how we're going to fix that.
