I just watched Idiocracy last week. While there are parts of it that I thought were very funny, I don't think I'd laugh again during the second viewing. The premise was interesting enough and it does make me think a little about all the things that perpetuates people's stupidity and laziness.
There was so much potential with that premise, but it feel extremely flat. When it came out, I saw
this article that compared it to Children of Men. It's sort of interesting.
I'm on board with your
spoiler. There's a part of me that believes that you should have to pass a test to vote. Not an IQ test or anything like that. More like an "of sound mind and body" test. It bothers me when my friends brag about how little they know about foreign affairs and current events. I think you should have to understand them before you're allowed to shape them for, better or worse, by casting a ballot. End rant.
Oh, and I loved the new Harry Potter movie.

I would recommend You've Got Mail.
It's a really cute comedy and Meg and Tom are hilarious! Plus, it has good music, and Steve Zahn, what more can you want?

No- you can never improve an original most of the time. That's why I usually hate remakes of old movies (why do they even try....?)

I finally watched Black Snake Moan, and I was a little disappointed. It was good, but now that I've seen it I don't get the hype around it (which was probably mostly about bone-thin Christina Ricci running around for an hour in panites and a cut-off t-shirt). Samuel L. Jackson was great, but I was most impressed with (it's weird, I know) the sound editing. I never really got into the story and I never really felt that much for the characters, but the sounds of the movie were just fantastic. All in all, I'm glad I saw it. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if it was more like

20th Century Fox has set Gavin Hood to direct Hugh Jackman in
Wolverine, the "X-Men" spinoff that was written by David Benioff.
The film, which begins production in November for a 2008 release, will be produced by Lauren Shuler-Donner, Jackman, and his Seed Productions partner John Palermo.
Hood is the South African director whose 2005 film
Tsotsi won the foreign film Oscar. His next film, the thriller
Rendition with Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, opens on October 12.
Using several resources that include the Marvel Comics lore, along with the more recent Weapon X graphic novels by Frank Miller, Wolverine mixes action with an origin story about how Logan emerged from a barbaric experiment as an indestructible mutant with retractable razor-sharp claws.
After three "X-Men" films grossed over $1 billion worldwide, the studio has made
Wolverine a top priority.
"I have long been a fan of Gavin's work and know he will make a masterful film with the character intensity and action beats the fans expect," said Jackman.

My dad and sister raved about Lady in the Water, and bought it as soon as it came out. My dad even said it made him cry! Then they made me watch it:

I really wasn't impressed. And I usually love his movies. I loved the Village and Signs, which was on TV tonight. That is a great movie, it's still so suspenseful to me no matter how many times I see it. Maybe he just needs to make more movies with Joaquin Phoenix.
