We saw Transformers last weekend so we had seen the previews to The Simpsons. Hubby asks Saturday what I want to do. I tell him I want to see The Simpsons. I get "the look". So I put my hands up to the ceiling like I'm holding something and sing "Spider Pig, Spider Pig." He cracked up and we went! It was PERFECT!

Who ever said stay for the credits, THANK YOU!

I finally saw 300 this weekend on DVD. It was a great visually, but I found it hard to "care" about the characters like I did in a movie like Lord of the Rings. In 300 it seemed like they were just trying to out-macho each other.

I agree! I liked the movie alot but wanted more 'story'. LOTR to me is a totally different movie in comparison to 300.

I thought of LOTR this weekend and I think i'll start watching the extended versions again starting tonight smile.gif

I own the 3 original DVD releases, but I've seen the extended versions also.

O-H, watching them again this week looks good on paper, but finding time to watch them without my son getting in the way is a challenge. I made the monumental mistake of letting him see parts of the movie before, and he couldn't get Gollum out of his head at night. That by far was one of my top 3 dumbest parental moves thus far.

I'm pretty sure I read this story, but I'm blanking on what it's about. I am a huge SK fan, and I have read a lot (though not all) of his stuff. What is this one about?

This is an older story of his. It's from his Skeleton Crew collection of short stories. It's about this wierd mist that rolls into this small town with horrible monsters lurking in it. It's centered on a group of people who take refuge in a supermarket.

Thanks. That does sound familiar. I guess I'm having trouble keeping track of all of them! Maybe it's time for me to break out those old paperbacks in the attic. rolleyes.gif

We recently rented a movie called Oldboy. It's a Korean film that I think is about a year old. It's one of the most ****** up movie I've ever seen in my life. It's about a guy who gets kidnapped off the street one day and is imprisoned for 15 years without knowing why. Most of the movie is about him trying to get revenge on the people who kept him locked up. It was pretty disturbing. I didn't sleep well the night we watched it. Has anyone else seen it?

Isn't that the movie they kept referencing after Virginia Tech--something about how the killer had watched it and there were some similarities? I could be wrong.

I think you're right. I didn't connect the two until you reminded me. It's kind of scary to think that soembody would get an idea like that from a movie.

But I guess this isn't the thread to disucss THAT. smile.gif

I went and saw The Bourne Ultimatum this weekend. WOW! It's the best of the trilogy by far. I loved the first two, but this one blew my mind. It's the first movie this summer where my husband didn't check his watch -- there wasn't time to look away! smile.gif

I really want to see this movie but I'm going to have to rent the first 2 again. It's been such a long time since I've seen the others I can't really remember the storyline very well laugh.gif But I definitely want to see the new one

I agree, the best yet. Although, the first was pretty mind-blowing. Non-stop action, just the way I like it. I watch the first two pretty frequently, so it was fresh in my mind, going into this one.
There is all this talk about, will there be a 4th one. I really don't want them to make one. I loooove the way this one ended. That was the best part.
Reading an interview, it seems that the making of the Ultimatum was crazy, Matt Damon was saying that is was waaaay to long in shooting, and they barely had a script when it began.
Notice: Jason Bourne doesn't have much dialouge in this film. I like it that way. He's more effective without talking.
I actually do want to see it again. Seriously.

Good choices ScrantonTempLiz.
Love 300 and Disturbia.

Just watched Hot Fuzz.
Those last couple scenes, I don't think that i stopped laughing. Although, the beginning was kinda slow and it wasn't as funny as Shaun of the Dead. I loved that Paddy Considine was in it, he was hilarious.
Overall, I enjoyed it and laughed a ton. Shaun of the Dead seemed funnier to me, maybe because it was so outrageuous at the time.

I am really looking forward to this. The Mist is one of the best stories King has written, and Darabont is great at adapting his work. No way could this be a stinker.

Plus, Darabont is the man behind the classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors"

Some noteworthy previews.

I'm really excited for American Gangster. It looks like it's gonna be good. Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe are both awesome actors and I love mob related movies...except for Scarface.

I also saw a preview of a movie with Joaquin Pheonix and Mark Wahlberg who play brothers on opposite sides of the law. It's called We Own the Night. Looks very good as well.

I will have to look up We Own the Night. I Loooove Joaquin Pheonix a lot. I am not a hugh fan of Mark Wahlberg though.

Well, everyone has their likes and dislikes but I always thought that Mark Wahlberg stole the show in The Departed. He played a great character very well.

No I've never seen it. I just looked it up on imdb.com and it looks very cute smile.gif I'll have to see if it's on netflix so I can rent it!

I think you'll like it. It's sweetly romantic, but Cary Grant is not the main romantic interest. Jim Hutton is, and he is very cute. It has clever dialogue and lots of laughs, but very romantic moments as well. Oooh, I think I'm going to put it on my netflix as well. I've been seeing lots of Olympics stuff today and it reminded me of that movie, because it takes place during the Olympics in Japan.
Enjoy!!

Plot Summary: A dignified send-off for a loved one erupts into uproarious chaos when romance, jealousy, in-laws, hallucinogens, dark secrets, life-long yearnings and a spot of bold blackmail all collide in the irreverent British comedy "Death at a Funeral." Directed by Frank Oz ("Bowfinger," "In & Out") and featuring a cast made up of the cream of Britain's crop, the film mischievously explores what happens on the day when a typically divided family is finally forced to come to terms with each other's - bad behavior, outrageous faults, skeletons in the closet and all.

On the morning of their father's funeral, the family and friends of the deceased each arrive with his or her own roiling anxieties. Son Daniel (Matthew Macfayden) knows he will have to face his flirty, blow-hard, famous-novelist brother Robert (Rupert Graves) who's just flown in from New York, not to mention the promises of a new life he's made to his wife Jane (Keely Hawes). Meanwhile, Daniel's cousin Martha (Daisy Donovan) and her dependable new fiance Simon (Alan Tudyk) are desperate to make a good impression on Martha's uptight father - a plan that literally goes out the window when Simon accidentally ingests a designer drug en route to the service, leaving him prone to uncontrollable bouts of delirium and nudity in front of his potential in-laws.

Then comes the real shocker: a mysterious guest (Peter Dinklage) who threatens to unveil an earth-shattering family secret. As riotous mayhem and unfortunate mishaps ensue on every front, it is now up to the two brothers to hide the truth from their family and friends and figure out how to not only bury their dearly beloved, but the secret he's been keeping.

Joaquin was awesome. I agree, he should have won for his role in Walk the Line. If you're in the mood for a great movie The Departed would be an excellent choice for Netflix. And who isn't in the mood for a great movie. May also change your view of Wahlberg, it did for me.

I watched 3 of 5 movies from the Myrna Loy/William Powell set tonight. They were all good. 2 of the 5 are dramas and the other 3 are comedies.

Manhattan Melodrama: 8/10. It was a drama- with Clark Gable. I liked the story- even though the entire premise of the movie was quite sad (2 best friends end up on opposite sides of the law) It was a huge hit when it came out in 1934 and I can see why.

Evelyn Prentice: 7.5/10. The 2nd drama in the set. This is probably the weakest movie in the entire set- but it was still good. The court room scene at the end was pretty exciting.

Double Wedding: 10/10. I loved this one. It was hilarious. The plot basically centers around an overprotective sister who tries to control her sisters life (plans her wedding...etc) and a "Bohemian" (that made me think of Moulin Rouge tongue.gif ) who lives in a camper. The last 10 minutes of the movie are crazy! laugh.gif

I've got 2 movies left- I'll probably watch them tomorrow night.
