^ Ooh, I'm so glad you loved "Double Wedding". It's easily my favourite Powell/Loy film. My favourite lines were...

Charles: I love you.
Margit: I beg your pardon?
Charlie: I love you.
Margit: I beg your pardon?
Charlie: Margit, I *love* you!
Margit: *tearfully* Why didn't you say so, you big grasshoper? I love you too!

That scene is a total "aww" moment for me. Powell & Loy are just so great together. Actually, I think "Double Wedding" is my favourite film! The scene where Margit smashes the painting the head through Charles head is a hoot, along with the one where she thinks he wants to paint her in the nude & he just wants to paint her sometime in the day rolling.gif.

I bought "Libeled Lady" from HMV earlier today. I plan to watch it after I finish "Bachelor & Bobby-Soxer", which I tivoed from TCM. That's another Myrna Loy film. She's starting to become my favourite actress.

I just watched 300 again. Glorious! I still love it. Although, it is not as good as LOTR and Gladiator. This is because the story in 300 isn't as important as the battle and the blood. Opposite in LOTR/Gladiator.

laugh.gif I loved how Margit kept calling that guy an ape & that guy got so mad haha. Another good line was when she asked Charles if he takes dope. Myrna was hilarious in the film. I'm still surprised that it only got 2 stars but nonetheless, I could watch it everyday. I still have yet to watch the other 4 films from the 5 set DVD, but it'll be after Libeled Lady.

I can't wait to watch it tonight. Orginally I recorded it when it was on TCM on Thursday but instead I decided to buy it instead. I mean, it's hard to go wrong with William Powell & Myrna Loy. Plus, it got 4 stars so it has to be good. Plus, it said on imdb that if I enjoyed Libeled Lady, I'll also like His Girl Friday, It Happened One Night, The Notebook, Philadelphia Story, which I also enjoyed quite well. They also mentioned The Black Widow, but I never heard of it nor have I watched it.

Ooh, and I finished Gone With the Wind yesterday. I quite liked it but I felt it was too long. Clark Gable was absolutely dreamy though wub.gif.

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a ****."

And finally, some trivia:

Among the many famous actress considered for the part of Scarlett were Jean Arthur, Lucille Ball, Tallulah Bankhead, Bette Davis, Claudette Colbert, Joan Crawford, Paulette Goddard, Katharine Hepburn, Olivia de Havilland, Carole Lombard, Norma Shearer, Barbara Stanwyck, and Margaret Sullavan. Bankhead (an authentic "Southern Belle" from Alabama) was the clear front-runner, but her unsavory personal life made producers reluctant to hire her.

Of all the actresses considered for the role, Louise Platt, Tallulah Bankhead, Linda Watkins, Adele Longmire, Haila Stoddard, Susan Hayward, Dorothy Mathews, Brenda Marshall, Paulette Goddard, Anita Louise, Margaret Tallichet, Frances Dee, Nancy Coleman, Marcella Martin, Lana Turner, Diana Barrymore, Jean Arthur, Joan Bennett and Vivien Leigh were tested for the role of Scarlett O'Hara.

I couldn't picture Lucille Ball doing that role. Whenever I think of her, "I Love Lucy" & "The Lucy Show" pops into my mind. I think she's a comedic actress but still very good.

I love Gone With the Wind- I think I've seen it about 10 times laugh.gif I can't imagine anyone but Vivian Leigh playing Scarlett- you wanted to hate her- but at the same time you can't help but feel sorry for her.

I got 2 box sets tonight for my birthday from aunts and uncles(they know me well tongue.gif )- The Ultimate Alfred Hitchcock collection (It has 20 movies in it! Quite a few are his early silent movies- I'm very excited to see those) and I also got a collection with A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle and The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. (I've seen all except Message in a Bottle)

I also got the Alice Faye Collection from my aunt and uncle last weekend- I've only watched one movie from it so far- but it was good. (All of the movies are musicals)

Off to finish watching I Love You Again biggrin.gif
mrs.snooks
I watched the end of Father of the Bride II today... I still love that movie smile.gif. I also watched 2 Doris Day movies on TCM... hmm... "It's a Great Feeling" and "The Glass Bottom Boat". They were both really cute movies and ones I hadn't seen before. I wanna watch "That touch of mink", which is on now, but hubby's watching baseball. Oh well, it's on our netflix list so I can watch it later biggrin.gif.

I don't know if I already said but I was 50/50 on 300. I liked it but I didn't think it was mind blowing and nearly not as bloody or graphic as everyone said.

I saw a great old john wayne movie on tv last nite, he look like he was in his early 20's. I missed the title of it, and it's not listed in the tv guide.

Oh, Gone with the Wind is my all time fav movie!!!

Finally saw The Simpsons Movie.....my favorite lines:

Tom Hanks: Hello, I'm Tom Hanks. The US Government has lost its credibility so it's borrowing some of mine.

countrychick182, I absolutely your new sig/banner. It's hard to beat the Powell/Loy dual. Also, you're right about "Libeled Lady" being a fantastic film. Powell & Loy amazed me yet again. One great scene was when they went fishing with her dad ahaha. And I loved that scene where Connie was all set to ask Bill about his wife & instead, she proposes to him. The way it was built up was so sweet wub.gif. And the way she said "How dare you!" to Gladys was great rolling.gif. An instant favourite & classic.

I watched "Love Crazy" from the 5 set DVD. I orginally planned to watch "I Love You Again" but I'm glad I changed my mind. "Love Crazy" was hilarious & I laughed so hard at so many scenes & lines. One that comes to mind is the court room scene, especially where Susan talks of how Steve ate that record to learn how to samba rolling.gif. One classic line was when Steve asked where that guy put his parachute haha. Powell played an excellent "lunatic" but nothing can top him in drag. Just thinking about it cracks me up.

Now I'm off to watch "My Man Godfrey" before I head to bed biggrin.gif.

Me too! I never ever watched it before I purchased it but now, I have no regrets whatsoever. Carole Lombard & William Powell were absolutely great together. I felt their chemistry from the moment Godfrey served Irene breakfast. She fell hard for him fast. Oh, and the lady that plays Cornelia, Irene's sister was the one who played Isobel in Love Crazy. Hehe. I watched My Man Godfrey last night. That movie makes me laugh so much laugh.gif laugh.gif I love the part where Irene is having a "spell" and her mother tells Carlo to do his monkey impression rolling.gif
prettyinpink86
laugh.gif That was one pretty good impression but it was slightly freaky too. Were you able to catch what Irene repeatedly said to Godfrey before she kissed him? My DVD didn't come with subtitles so I didn't know exactly what she said. However, I still think the best scene was when Godfrey stuck Irene in the shower to wake her up & soon afterwards she jumps around like a child, screaming "Godfrey loves me!" repeatedly. Or even when they wed out of the blue & poor Godfrey had no idea rolling.gif. Such a great film with great actors, actresses & characters.

Tonight will be Love Crazy. I read the synopsis on the DVD case & it sounds quite good. After that, should I watch Manhattan Melodrama or Evelyn Prentice?

I didn't catch what she was saying the first time I watched it- but this time I did. She's saying "I'm not really having a spell" laugh.gif I always feel bad for him in the end of the movie when they are getting married- he's so confused laugh.gif laugh.gif

The taxi cab scene when they first meet is really cute. I liked Evelyn Prentice (a little bit slow at times) but it was a good court room kind of drama

laugh.gif I was surprised he didn't protest about the whole thing but I doubt Irene would let him get away. And as for that line about the spell, she's quite clever. I doubt she would've been able to kiss him if she didn't whisper. Ooh, and I have to post these set of quotes:

Detective: Just a minute, sister!
Molly: If I thought that were true, I'd disown my parents.
Detective: [chuckles] So you got a passion for jewelry, huh?
Molly: Yes... I got a passion for socking cops.
Detective: Where are they?

Than Manhattan Melodrama it is heehee. I tend to like comedies over dramas but it'll interesting to see Myrna & William in a non comedic & screwball role. How many films have they done together? I've ever 14 but I could be wrong but anyway, I'd love to see them all.

Yeah- I like comedies over dramas too- but the 2 in that set are good.

They made 14 movies together- you were right. The only one that isn't on DVD is The Senator Was Indiscreet. I've never seen it- and Myrna only has a small part towards the end of the movie.

a rumor that Sam Raimi was offered the Clash of the Titans remake, I wondered out loud (or on the web page) if this meant that he would not be making The Hobbit for New Line. Well it looks like there is more to this story. The LA Times recently spoke to New Line head Bob Shaye:

Eager to move ahead with “The Hobbit,” New Line has quietly been trying to mend fences with “Rings” filmmaker Peter Jackson, who has sued the company over his share of profits from the first “Rings” films. When asked if it was true that company insiders had been in talks with Jackson’s reps, Shaye replied, “Yes, that’s a fair statement. Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in ‘The Hobbit.’”
But don’t get too excited. IESB is reporting that Raimi is still interested in helming The Hobbit, but the only way he’ll sign on is if Peter Jackson produces. This sounds more likely than Jackson returning to direct (heck, he’s busy with his own projects and New Line only has The Hobbit rights for a short time). So we could end up seeing a Peter Jackson produced Hobbit film directed by Sam Raimi. I, like most people would probably be fine with that. Now the question is: Is Shaye really as stubborn as he has sounded in the past? Because Jackson has said that he won’t work with New Line until they settle.

laugh.gif He doesn't sing- I can assure you of that. Ziegfeld was a huge producer/director in the 20's and 30's and was known for his huge stage productions. It's more of a movie about big production numbers than singing. The movie is mostly about the life of Ziegfeld (like a biography-except I'm not sure how true it is- but I'm guessing it's kind of close)

I saw Hairspray for the second time biggrin.gif Loved it just as much as the first time!

I finished watching "I Love You Again" & I must say that I quite loved it. My only complaint was that there weren't enough scenes with Larry & Kay. Perhaps they could've talked less about Larry's line of work to make it interesting? Anyway, like every other Loy & Powell film it was filled with classic scenes & lines. One that made me laugh out loud was when Larry danced by himself rolling.gif. One that I thought was quite romantic was when Kay & Larry watched the city at night wub.gif. The scene after where Kay told Larry that she would do the chasing was sweet. Ooh, and those cooing calls were priceless laugh.gif. Naturally there were many great lines but one great one that I found on imdb was:

George Carey: You be careful madam, or you'll turn my pretty head with your flattery.
Kay Wilson: I often wished I could turn your head - on a spit, over a slow fire.

The banter between the two was phenomal. However, I was shocked to learn that Myrna Loy has never won an academy award wacko.gif. She's extremely funny, like Lucille Ball & Katharine Hepburn & plus she's quite talented to. It sucks. Also, William Powell is starting to rival Cary Grant as my favourite actor. They're both quick when it comes to wit.

My DVD player allows me to watch it on a speed that's 1.5 faster & my goodness, watching him do the dance even faster is a hoot laugh.gif. His retort to when Kay asked him how he learnt to dance like that was great, with "By mail." ahahaha. William Powell is great though. He can go from the funniest guy to the sweetest guy in seconds. Wow, not even a nomination? That's really sad. She's made well over 100 films & it's surprising that the Academy didn't even find one good performance, if not more. Than again, I did hear that she accepted an honouary Oscar in 1991 so I guess it's basically reconigzing(sp) her for all the work she's done.

It took me a while to get through it because my son kept coming in and annoying me. Maybe I need to set up a secret movie room in the attic.

I just watched Jason takes Manhattan. I laughed even harder than I did when I watched Jason X.

Now I'm dying to see Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House but I cannot find it anywhere.

It's probably really bad for me to say I own it on both VHS and DVD......I would let you borrow it if I could tongue.gif

laugh.gif Now wouldn't that be nice. I had the chance to watch the scene where Myrna's character was picking the colour for the room/place in vivid description (robin egg blue) & in the end, the guy lists them off as blue, red etc laugh.gif.

Last night I was able to watch both Manhattan Melodrama & Evelyn Prentice & to be honest, I preferred Evelyn Prentice must better. I found Manhattan Melodrama to be quite slow at times & boring too. Also, I thought that Myrna Loy's character was quite irrating. I mean, if she couldn't get her way she would just leave huh.gif. At least that's what I gathered. Watching Clark Gable as a guy who shot two people didn't fit for me. I always imagined him as the leading man with a heart of gold but even so, he was still dreamy wub.gif. William Powell really rocked his characters final speech. What a man.

As for Evelyn Prentice, I enjoyed it more. I just couldn't understand how Evelyn was so quick to forget her husband after receiving that note & watch in the mail. Maybe I missed something. That Larry guy sure was the ultimate creep & slime ball. Also, I had no idea that Rosalind Russel was the same women who John acquitted at the beginning. That was her first film & basing what I say in His Girl Friday. The courtroom scene was great & chilling at the same time. Myrna should've gotten an Academy Award for her performance there, if at least not a nomination. Good stuff.

Tonight I will watch Big Brown Eyes, which was on TCM earlier today. It's been a while since I watched a Cary Grant film & I can't wait smile.gif.

PS: I *love* your new sig! Are all the pictures taken from The Thin Man films or various Powell & Loy pics?

I couldn't understand why she wanted to leave her husband so fast either huh.gif I really liked the court room scene too- exciting
I like Manhattan Melodrama- but it did drag in some parts. Still- it was worth it just because it was their first movie together

Hmm- I don't think I've ever seen that movie- but I love anything with Cary Grant in it- so I'm sure I'd like it tongue.gif I really wish I got TCM sad.gif

Thanks- I found all of the pictures on livejournal (I really wish I knew how to make them myself!) As far as I can tell- all of the pictures are from the Thin Man movies

I watched Wife versus Secretary last night- with Myrna Loy, Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. It was good- but it wasn't a screwball comedy as listed on netflix. Myrna Loy and Clark Gable made quite a few movies together too- I've seen a few of them. I like Jean Harlow a lot too- she was hilarious in Libeled Lady laugh.gif

Oh- and I made 4 "Listmania's" this afternoon on amazon.com tongue.gif

Yeah, Jason kills a guy by punching his head off. I'm pretty sure that was intentionally funny.

Still not as good as Freddy killing a kid with a video game.

I was cajoled into seeing Hot Rod with a few of my friends tonight.

Analysis...the movie was pretty hot/cold. But when it was hot it was hilarious. There was one scene that had me in tears I was laughing so hard. It was very random, you have to have a stupid sense of humor, which I have. blink.gif

Will Arnett had a few choice lines for sure. As memorable as G.O.B. though...not really. The character he plays is very becoming of his acting style anyway.

Andy Samburg was actually suprisingly good. He had some pretty good scenes. Samburg's sidekicks in the movie were interesting to say the least.

I watched Vacancy last nite. I swear I've seen this movie before? Is it a remake?? 20 mins into and I knew I had seen it before, oh well. It wasn't great though. It had a good idea but fell short IMO

D@mn, what I meant to say what I couldn't understand how she could forgive him so quickly. Maybe it was because of what happened with Larry. But, like all movie everything makes sense the second time around laugh.gif.

Oh, you *must* watch it if you get the chance. It's genre was listed as a drama but I found it to be comedy. Anyway, it was pretty hilarious IMO. There were two scenes that cracked me up rolling.gif. One was when he was talking back & forth to himself, once as himself & the other as a "girl" to make his jealous girlfriend laugh.gif. I couldn't tell if it was him making that girly voice or if he was throwing it. However, the best scene was when he was packing & his girlfriend comes in. He's so flabergasted(sp) that he isn't making any sense. For a while he kept repeating, "Come in" & when she comes in he goes, "Oh it's you. Come in." rolling.gif. It reminded me off that scene from Arsenic & Old Lace where he goes "When I come back, I expect to find you gone. Wait for me!" laugh.gif Cary Grant rocks at playing a confused guy.

Tonight will probably be Holiday or His Girl Friday.

laugh.gif That movie sounds hilarious. I will have to check to see if they have it on Netflix.

I love His Girl Friday and I have Holiday on my netflix list- so tough choice! tongue.gif

I watched A Walk to Remember tonight. There are only about 2 movies that make me cry- that one and The Notebook. (I hate crying over movies...that's why I usually watch comedies)

I saw Superbad in the opening showing at midnight last night with a friend. There is really only one way to describe it. It is this generation's Dazed and Confused. It was pretty raunchy as expected, but hilarous.
