When does oscar season begin? I know september is the reject movie month but is October when the good movies start coming out?? I can never remember

The Oscars aren't until January/February. I'm just looking forward to Atonement. It comes out in December.

I still haven't finished Our Mutual Friend (it's almost 6 hours long ohmy.gif ) Part One was a bit slow- but Part 2 was much better. Sill have Parts 3 and 4 to watch

Yeah, he plays a 30-ish Henry VIIIth on Showtime. I suspended my disbelief so far, I fell off.

I just went and saw a screening of 3:10 to Yuma. Wow. Absolutely fantastic. Russell Crowe is great in it. And I didn't look at the films cast before I saw it and was suprised to see a couple of faces. When it comes out I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen a good western in awhile.

Thanks for the good review! I've been wanting to see it, because Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are 2 of my all-time favorite actors... and because there haven't been any westerns in a long time (and I like westerns). I don't think hubby wants to watch it, but he might not have a choice biggrin.gif.

Speaking of westerns, Broken Trail is a really good movie. Has Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church in it... I think it's based on a true story and my (very very small) hometown is mentioned in it... which is always exciting biggrin.gif. Anyway, I recommend it. I think it plays on AMC or something.

oh bubble stick with our mutal friend, it's really great.

I rented some scary movies. some bad b horror flicks. there good for a laugh.
Oscars already. They will start rolling out a few of the "contenders" soon. I didn't knwo that Aug was the considered the month to put in the movies they didn't think were good enough for the true blockbuster season. Some decent movies came out in august though.

I'm loking forward to the new woody allen movie. Scarlett johansen stars again. I hope it's slightly better than scoop.

I finished watching Our Mutual Friend last night. It was long, it was slow- but I still liked it pretty well. I'm not a big Charles Dickens fan to begin with- so me liking this mini-series is a big accomplishment laugh.gif It's probably my least favorite BBC series I've watched so far- but by no means did I hate it.

The next 2 movies on my netflix list are Mr. Deeds Goes to Town and Throughly Modern Millie. They'll be here some time next week

I saw this for a new movie coming up and thought it looked different. All 3 actors are on different spectrums(to me) and yet working together on this movie.

Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman, Jack Black and Jennifer Jason Leigh moved in together during filming for new movie Margot At The Wedding, because they wanted to perfect their roles as a dysfunctional family. The three actors lived in a house in the Hamptons area of New York while working on the Noah Baumbach-directed drama earlier this year, and Kidman has fond memories of their time together. She says, "We all lived in this house in the Hamptons. Jennifer would cook breakfast on Sunday, and we'd all go to work Monday to Friday, and hang out on the weekend. Jack (Black) would play guitar. (And) we'd lie around in the bed, rehearsing. You don't make films like that right now - it's more a seventies way of making films."

( Trailer for Margot At The Wedding! )

Wow, that looks like a good movie. Do you have any idea when it's coming out? I hope it won't be like the squid and the whale, which was apparently really boring.

I enjoy the movie, Mean Girls.

I just watched Zelig and it's an amazing Woody Allen film. It's the first mocumentary, so without it we probably wouldn't have The Office. And it's with footage from the 20s and 30s! If you want to see a cute, funny, and brilliant film, you have to rent Zelig!

I just watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

It's such a haunting and unsettling movie, but I absolutely loved it.

I loved that movie, Jim Carry was excellent in it, mad me not hate him. I liked how he was a shy introvert and Kate Winslet was the hyper one. The cinematography and editing are superb as well, just a wonderful film.

It reminded me that sad memories of caring about somebody are sometimes better than not ever caring at all.

Sometimes.

And yeah, Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey were both perfect.

I felt horrible for Kirsten Dunst's character. Even though she tried to have her memories erased, she was still attracted to the doctor.

I love that movie! I've seen a few times. Last year I saw a movie from the same director, The Science of Sleep, but it was a little too weird. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, was just the right amount of weirdness.

Edit: I just read your post above, and ITA. I also felt bad for the Kirsten Dunst's character.

It also mad me think, if I could, what memories would I erase and why.

This is one of my all time favorites. It's so clever and unique.

Saw Evening this weekend with my mom. Was a little disappointed. It seemed like there was so much that was just missing from the story. Loved Hugh Dancy though. He made it worth watching. And it's absolutely amazing how much Meryl Streep's daughter looks like her.

We have a local movie theatre that doesn't get movies until really late (sometimes they are already out on dvd). The upside is it's a great place to run into people you know and it only costs $5 for an evening showing. We actually have several places like that out here. Just to give you an idea of how late it gets movies, it won't get the latest Harry Potter movie for another few weeks. sleep.gif But, everyone in the two or three neighboring towns will be there to see it.

We watched Ken Burns' Civil War documentary in my civil war class in high school. I loved it and when it was on PBS I tried to get the rest of my family to watch it. They didn't go for it. Have you seen this before? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3m6Mghzgh0

Went to the library and got 3 movies:
Arsenic and Old Lace (love this movie!)
It Happened One Night wub.gif
and the BBC version of Vanity Fair (I hope it's good- I've never seen the new one)

I was just on IMDB.com and it says that Jane Wyman died today sad.gif I loved her in Royal Wedding with Bing Cosby

Arsenic and Old Lace is one of my all time favorite classics. I recommended it to one of my friends back in high school and she finally figured out why women had been swooning over Cary Grant for decades.

When I was up I watched this B movie Dead alive. It's a funny horror movie. My favor part is the preist who knows kung fu and tells off a zombie by telling him, "I kick a$$ for the lord." It was a total crack up.
bubblewrap_1
I watched all of Vanity Fair. It was pretty good- but (not sure if this would spoil anything at all- but just in case smile.gif ) I was so irritated with the main character Becky at the end. It made it hard for me to watch in the last few episodes- she was so horrid.

She is smart and ruthless. I can admire her brains, her smarts, her wit, but no, she isn't completely likable. That said, I do recommend the book. It is excellent. smile.gif The Reese Witherspoon version softens her up a bit. And it's pretty to look at, so you might like that one better.

Did anyone catch 3:10 to Yuma this weekend? Was it good?

I almost forgot! Bubblewrap -- I love your new sig!

Omg, so I am really excited for Across the Universe on friday. I have seriously been waiting for this movie, for like ever. I love movies with music, especially 60's and 70's music. Kinda like how Forrest Gump had great music.

Yeah, I've seen them both; I love rewatching movies. But our friends haven't seen either of them and they loved Shaun of the Dead, so we think they'll like Hot Fuzz and 300 just 'cuz it's cool and it'll be in glorrrrrrrrrrrrious HD.

That is awesome! I would love to study photography (and probably will next year in CGEP--it's like pre college in Quebec). I also--if you haven't noticed already rolleyes.gif--love film, and actually want to maybe become a cinematographer, so watching movies will probably be my homework (which is also awesome happy.gif). Also, if you haven't seen Carnivale--as you can see I'm a huge fan happy.gif rolleyes.gif--you might like it since it takes place in 1934/35 in the middle of the Depression and dust bowl in America. I mean, there is more to it, but that's what really made me love anything and everything from the 30s (or pre WW2). They--creator, producers, etc.--also made sure to film it in the style they filmed in the 30s, i.e. a lot of wide shots, less cuts, etc (if you watch the commentary on episode 1 they talk about it).
