^ Oh, I hope that you find it. If worst comes to worst, I recommend buying the TCM Spotlight with Myrna Loy & William Powell, which features that film & four others of theirs. Plus, my all time favourite film, Double Wedding, is included as well. You won't be able to find those two films anywhere else I imagine.

Is that not the cutest scene ever? biggrin.gif I really need to buy the movie so I can watch it again. It's been awhile

Oh, I absolutely agree! I thought it was quite humorous how Billie would like at Flo after everytime he said something, but he would make her turn her head away laugh.gif. It was so sweet to see a headstrong ladies man reduced to a bashful, tongue tied man wub.gif. The way they met each other was sweet & slightly romantic. What a lovely film.

I'm almost done Sex & The Single Girl. Lauren Bacall is an absolute hoot laugh.gif. Her very first scene was priceless rolling.gif. Tony Curtis is absolutely dreamy, & his eyes just draw me in wub.gif. Natalie Wood is fab too, & that scene where she was drunk was great ahaha. Excellent stuff so far.
Fancy_New_Becca
Gareth, I agree with you. I'm a true horror movie girl and remakes can never catch the terror feeling, they fill it in with blood and gore. I am still mixed on halloween. Something yes were over the top, but there still was the whole chill factor when it came down to michael. Nightmare is proberly my fav of horror. No one had even did anything like what wes did with that story, it's still awesome. And the johnny depp waterbed thing is classic.

I watched Evening this afternoon, between cuddles with the brit and his sleeping. What a horrible movie. Skip it please. The romantic story line is hardly romantic and the whole mother daugther, sister relationship isn't really dealt with. Reflecting on a past love is better told in The Notebook. I love toni collette and meryl streep but this was such a let down. I never felt like I got into the story cause the characters just didn't seem pop off the screen

Just watched My Super Ex-Girlfiriend. It was nice seeing Rainn in a different role, but who green-lit THAT movie? It was a mess! ohmy.gif

I wasn't paying attention when you said you were going to watch it or I would have told you not to. There are so many pieces that seem to be missing in that story and my mom and I walked away from the theatre looking like this unsure.gif The wrong guy died. The only character who was interesting at all was Buddy. We spent the ride home rewritting the ending. Our version was much better.

It's fine to go alone, whether it's because no one wants to see what you want or because you just want to. I hate people who put others down for going to the movies alone. What's the big deal? Go and enjoy it!!!

Superbad was okay--one really horrendous scene at a party, though. Liz, when you see it, we can discuss behind spoiler bars. I mentioned it here earlier, about a month ago (that would be the last time I was allowed out of the house)!
Office_holic
I know we had this discussion a few months back on going to the movies alone.

DO IT!

Why be subjected to your friend or friends talking during a movie you want to see? Why be at someones beck & call if they can or cant go?

I see nothing wrong with going alone. I prefer it. I go usually around noon time, take my time getting a snack, getting a seat. Also whenever i go alone there are SO many others that are there alone.

So its not weird or loserish.

Just do it! Like Nike rolling.gif

^^^ Hugh Dancy is hotness itself. I had never seen him before I started watching "Elizabeth I" with Helen Mirren. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to marry him.

I lovedElizabeth I. I've got it on my Christmas list. I'm so picking that up somehow. Yeah, I'd never seen Hugh Dancy before Elizabeth I either. Amazing.

I love Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and I picked up the special edition DVD. Beware! The movie runs with deleted scenes ADDED BACK INTO THE MOVIE. It made it this weird, absurd, bizarre laughingstock of a movie. I was so pi$$ed. There's no option to turn off the deleted scenes. So now if I want it, I'll have to go pick up a regular version. Argh!

Anyway, anyone want to see Juno? It's got Rainn Wilson and it looks sweet. I've heard that it's 2007's Little Miss Sunshine (which was great and Steve Carell was awesome).

Dan in Real Life is Steve Carrell(automatic hit!) and he is a newspaper columnist and is a single parent with 3 daughters. He goes home for a week or something and meets a girl, but turns out the girl is his brother's girlfriend. Ahhh! Looks adorable! it also has Dane Cook.

Ah- a Lon Chaney movie. Those movies creep me out more than any horror movie today. If you can find the 1925 silent version of The Phantom of the Opera- rent it. Lon Chaney plays the Phantom in that and it's a really creepy movie. Part of the movie is even in color (2 strip Technicolor)

I am very proud to present the theatrical trailer for

Southland Tales

Written and directed by Richard Kelly.

What is it about? From what I've read, it involves a amnesiac boxer (Dwayne Johnson), a porn star (Sarah Michelle Gellar), twin brothers, one being another amnesiac (both played by Seann William Scott) a racist L.A. police officer (Jon Lovitz), a group of Neo-Marxists, an extremely powerful baby fart, and the end of the world. A musical number with Justin Timberlake set to "All These Things That I've Done" by The Killers is thrown in for good measure.

I can't wait.

I've read a few reviews that said Darko-heads might not be big fans of Southland. Thats right, it's even more confusing than Donnie Darko.

Something about it just feels right to me though. I love the way Kelly structures his films, it keeps you thinking about it hours after viewing. It's been said that this film will require repeat viewings before you totally grasp it. Even then, I have a feeling it will always be shrouded in mystery.

You must tell me what you thought about one my favourite films. I mean, wasn't it just a simply divine film with such a fabulous plot, marvelous cast & fantastic lines? No wonder AFI recongized(sp) as one of the great films ever.

Speaking of great films, I decided to look into what "The Grasshopper & The Ant" was about. For all those unsure of what I meant, it what Margit recommended to Charlie for something to read in Double Wedding. I was expecting a novel but I instead came across a fable by Aesop:

QUOTE
In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:

It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.

I had to re-read it a couple of times but I guess Charlie was the grasshopper & Margit the ant. Than again, it was kinda obvious as Margit called Charlie a grasshopper when they revealed that they love to one another laugh.gif.

He's from my town. We have the 'Lon Chaney Theater' downtown. I went to school with a guy named Olav Chaney, who is related somehow.

To complete the horror connection laugh.gif , my Mom loved Halloween and costumes, so as kids she'd drag us to 'Peterson's Partyland', which was a costume shop owned by Cassandra Peterson's (Elvira) Mom. I don't remember Elvira (she's much older then me) but my Mom said she worked there as a teen.

All I have to say is thank god I got to watch "The Heartbreak Kid" for free 'cause it s-u-c-k-e-d. Ben Stiller's character was a real a-hole. I don't care if he falls in love with another chick on his honeymoon. I hated seeing him lie to his wife about who he was seeing or where he was going. It's cheating in my book. I felt so bad for his wife, even if she was crazy. The only thing that made it bearable was Jerry Stiller. He was fab in Seinfeld & he was a real hoot in the film. Seeing all these b*obs was a total turnoff, as was seeing the other features of the female body. Sorry, not interested. Basically, the previews were a build up while the film itself was a letdown. But, don't let my review stop anyone from seeing it. We all have different taste in films...

Thanks for the review. I was wondering how it would turn out, but I wasn't really wanting to see it... mainly because I was afraid of the bolded parts at the top. I hate movies where someone cheats on their significant other. It literally makes my stomach turn. I also hate movies where they show a ton of b*obs... like the wedding crashers... pretty funny movie, but that was a big turn-off. If I saw the movie, I'd agree with you on Jerry Stiller. He's hilarious... I love him in King of Queens, Seinfeld, and anything else.

You're totally welcome. I don't anyone here to waste $10.00+ on a film that they could rent for cheaper or whatever. Not only are there b*obs, but the wife's, erm, neither region is shoved in the audiences faces. Ooh, and there were two sex scenes that weren't needed but basically, this is a guys film. I guess the directors figure that the women would go for romance but no, the romance sucked as Ben Stiller's character was an a-hole & a cheater, which made my stomach turn even more due to the fact that he lied about being a newlywed while his wife was all alone. Even though Jerry Stiller rocked, he alone did not make the movie worth the near two hours. So save your money & spend it on something decent, unless it's your kind of film.

I *loved* His Girl Friday! The best moment was when Cary Grant batted his eyelashes. That was frigging hilarious rolling.gif. That film is full of fast wit. Bringing Up Baby is fantastic too, & one of Cary Grant's best roles ever. Seeing him playing a character who isn't intentionally funny, charming & attractive was great, & he just oozed chemistry with Katharine Hepburn. A Cary Grant that is a must watch is Arsenic & Old Lace. I'll admit that I didn't like it after the first time but it's become of my favourites. Cary Grant's character was crazy & over the top but an absolute hoot rolling.gif. Great cast with witty dialogue(sp) & insane plot.

I think I'm gonna buy that William Powell and Myrna Loy movie set you mentioned PIP, it seems worth it.

Woo hoo biggrin.gif! If you purchase it, the first disc that you must watch is Double Wedding, & I'm not just saying that because it's my favourite film. You'll love it. I guarantee it biggrin.gif.

Who's going to see Sweeney Todd when it comes out in December?

I'm really looking forward to Dan in real life. Something funny but under stated.

I hope it's good. biggrin.gif

I just picked up Elizabeth I on DVD. I am so terribly excited. Watching it in 2 parts on HBO is fun, but not as much fun as having it on DVD. Wooooooooo!

I just watched Lady Jane- with Helena Bonham Carter and Cary Elwes (the guy from The Princess Bride) It was an excellent movie. Of course the movie isn't really historically accurate- but it was still very good.

That woman seriously scares me , unsure.gif but since you and I seem to be cut from the same cloth where movies are concerned, I'll take your word for it. wink.gif
