I just watched "Shaun of the Dead". I had heard it was good when it came out, but oh my god, it was fantastic.

I was a little iffy about watching a zombie movie, but it wasn't scary at all, and it was hilarious. It was a little gory, but not too bad. And sad. Not to mention that it was artistically brilliant as well.

The Office UK connection: I was excited to see Dawn in the movie, and I jumped off my couch when Tim showed up! How exciting.
I also have Hot Fuzz. Going to watch that tomorrow!

I wub.gif Shaun of the Dead! You should watch it with "Zombo-vision"; it's like pop-up video! biggrin.gif Hot Fuzz is wonderful too. wub.gif

I love both those movies! I can never decide which one I like more. They're both so brilliant and funny, and have some of the best/worst death scenes ever. Besides, Simon Pegg is adorable. blush.gif

I heard that was good. And I love the Cohen brothers. "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" = wub.gif Some people get very annoyed when filmmakers use other movies to influence their work, but I love it, and the Cohen's do it a lot.

How could anyone get annoyed by the Cohens? They're beyond brilliant. They take those influences and create something entirely new and unique.

I just watched My Man Godfrey (1936), and I really liked it! It had William Powell in it! I just really disliked the end, didn't really get it.

Today's obscure movie pick

"TIME OF THE WOLF"

It's a French apocalyptic drama, but it's not a horror film and there are no zombies. We're never told what's happened, but it's clear that society has broken down and merely surviving day to day is the only goal.

This isn't an action film, in fact the film is realistically slow and bleak with much of the day spent scrounging for food.

The movie has it's violent moments and they are very unsettling. They aren't particularly graphic, but very effective to the storyline.

Yeah- they get married. That's what makes it so hilarious. By the end he's trying to figure out how everything ended up with him getting married to her- of all people laugh.gif I read somewhere (probably on another message board) that in real life he wouldn't have married her- but in the screwball world the ending makes perfect sense because it's just as screwy as the rest of the movie laugh.gif

I think I'll do that too biggrin.gif. I'd buy the entire set, but I need to save up some $$$ to buy Christmas gifts for five family members. *sigh* sad.gif

You should watch Fast & Loose, which is the poor man's version of The Thin Man. I'll give you a link to the imdb page:

Fast & Loose

Unfortunately, it's nowhere to be found on DVD & VHS but I'm happy to say that TCM will be airing it in the coming days. Check this to see when it'll be airing. Also, speaking of a must watches, you *have* to see His Girl Friday. It's highly regarded as the best screwball comedy film ever, & it's filled with lighting quick wit which is bound to happen when Cary Grant plays the male lead wub.gif. It's one of those films that gets funnier & better with every viewing biggrin.gif. You'll love it if you already haven't smile.gif.

I happen to think it is a very overrated movie. Great acting and you really learn to hate that main character but I think most people think it's great because it was contraversial.

Brody was amazing in The Pianist.

And Saving Private Ryan's opening scenes are some of the most powerful you will ever see. It was the first rated R movie I saw in theaters (that my parents knew about) and I was awestruck. Absolutely amazing film. I hope you enjoy it and tell us what you think. It's top 5 for me.

I had so much fun watching the last Die Hard movie last night. Just a good action movie and not nearly as bland as DH3. Plus bruce willis is just sexy all bruised and battered.

half nelson was good. I wish it went alittle longer and dealt more with the addiction and how it plays against all the students. Still really a great movie

I hope you'll get the privilege of watching Fast & Loose biggrin.gif. It's too bad that it's not too well known, but I guess it'll happen with something like The Thin Man series. As for His Girl Friday, every classic film I know absolutely adores it. It's hard not to love it wub.gif.

I have another recommendation, & this time the film is called Twentieth Century. It stars Carole Lombard & John Barrymore. While there are hints of romance, the film mostly focuses on the aspect of comedy. John Barrymore was utterly fantastic as a man who is completely zany & eccentric. Carole Lombard was great too. One memorable scene was on the train in which John's character was telling Carole Lomard's character that she is who she is because of him, & she's just throwing a fit, kicking her legs out at him rolling.gif. Oh, it was great.

Luckily it's out on DVD, & I'm sure your local library will carry it. I hope you get to watch it biggrin.gif.

Yeah, I love Saving Private Ryan. That beach scene is both jarring and moving at the same time. Same with the final scene at the bridge...just beautifully done and absolutely in the top few of my favorite movies ever (actually, only The Shawshank Redemption probably is in the same league as it).

I watched I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry tonight...pretty funny. Stereotypical, as expected from Sandler, but quite a few hilarious parts.

During the summer a cemetery here in LA does movie screenings outisde against a mausoleum wall. People bring picnics and for being in the middle of a cemetery at night, it's very peaceful and a lot of fun. I went and saw No Country For Old Men tonight.

WOW!!!

The Coen Brothers are truly brilliant. For those of you who don't know, they directed Fargo as well as couple other of my favorites (The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona). This is arguably better than Fargo but I still think Fargo is my favorite Coen Brothers film. That is saying a lot though because Fargo is easily Top 10 on my list, maybe even Top 5.

The actor who played the sadistic killer, Javier Bardem, was amazing. There were a few times where I was shocked by the hatred I felt for this guy, but at the same time I sat in awe. I'll go so far as to say that the dialougue is better than Pulp Fiction. And of coarse, it wouldn't be a Coen Brothers film without some well placed humor.

10 out of 10 and not a doubt in my mind.

I really want to see this. Fargo, Raising Arizona, Blood Simple, The Big Lebowski, and O Brother... are among my favorite films, and I've read this new one is a return to form after their last two being such disappointments. The only problem is that I have to see Southland Tales when I get the money. That is my first priority. Hopefully it will be a big enough hit to stay in theaters for awhile.

During the summer a cemetery here in LA does movie screenings outisde against a mausoleum wall. People bring picnics and for being in the middle of a cemetery at night, it's very peaceful and a lot of fun. They show a lot of the classics, and it's interesting because a lot of the stars are buried there! Their slogan is "Enjoy the movies above and below the stars." laugh.gif Anyways, Twentieth Century was one of the movies they aired last year, and I really liked it! It's such a great movie. My friends and I still use "I close the iron door on you." laugh.gif

laugh.gif That is AWESOME! ITA with Bubble, I must move to CA biggrin.gif--especially since I'm freezing my arse off here dry.gif. I am so gonna rent that movie ASAP!

Last night I watched Grand Hotel (1932), and it was quite good! Not the best plot but it was still nice. The fashion was swell *day dreams*, and I really liked Joan Crawford in it, she was gorgeous!

Edit: Oh, and Bubble LOVE the quote in your sig (and the graphic is awesome too), I so want to re-watch all of the Thin Man movies--maybe Santa can get me the box set wink.gif!
