I love the movie Out of Sight. Absolutely love it. And flame me if you want, but I will always have a soft spoft in me for Jennifer Lopez because she was in that movie and was great. I want JLo and George Clooney to be in more movies together. wub.gif

I won't flame you Bailey, I love Out of Sight. You're right, they should do another movie together. They have such great chemistry together.

no, Out of sight was better than I thought. I agree they were great together. Clonney made Jlo look really good, she's not a great actress but she held her own

Flameless here as well wub.gif I loved Dennis Farina who played her Dad too. My favorite scene was towards the end when all the robbers were in the mansion and they were shooting and taunting each other and finally when Karen made herself shoot Jack to save him in the end.

Yeah!

I love the ending. How she made is possible for him to escape prison again. Awe! That's true love.

I take it back. I think George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez should be in every movie together. There, I said it.

Another One:

Out of Sight also solidified by adoration of Don Cheadle. He is so great! And Ving Rhames.

BTB - I wonder if that's the list Dwight's working on? After all, he has seen 240 films...he should be almost done by now. laugh.gif

He told me that there are a few movies that pander soft-minded do goodedness, and that he wouldn't be watching those.

QUOTE (Gareth Bernard @ Nov 27 2007, 02:33 PM) *
Like with, umm which ones? I wouldn't mind the LOTR entries being knocked down to say... the two-hundreds. The Godfather films are universally overpraised; I'd place them no higher than the eighties. The Shining is perhaps the most overrated film of all time, so that goes in the bottom 250. I can go on and on.

II have to give props for Donnie Darko being placed so high, as well as Chris Nolan's films (Batman Begins being the best super-hero movie ever made... screw you, Spider-Man 2).

First of all, the 2 most overrated movies of all time are Goodfellas and Pulp Fiction. Resivoir Dogs is leagues ahead of Pulp Fiction IMO. Pulp Fiction is not the 5th greatest movie of all time, not a chance. And Casino destroys Goodfellas but for some reason Goodfellas is 15 and Casino is 221. What is that? Don't get me wrong Goodfellas and Pulp Fiction are both great but are beaten by their counterparts.

I agree about the LOTR movies, way too high up. I could go on for awhile but I'll stop there.

Things I like about the list...

I was pleased with Shawshank Redemption (2), The Good the Bad and the Ugly (5), The Usual Suspects (20), and one of my new favorites No Country For Old Men (23).

I still need to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and a few others.
Bailey08
Pulp Fiction is a d'awesome movie. Maybe not #5, but it deserved to be up there. I only saw Reservoir Dogs once, and liked Pulp Fiction better- but both deserve to be on the list.

Now what about the top 100 rated on Rotten Tomatoes?
I've seen 36 of those.

Not one bad review for Toy Story 2, out of 121? Wow.

Don't get me wrong here, I do love Pulp Fiction. I just think that it can move a little slowly. Everyone always praises QT for his dialougue and rightfully so. I just thought that some of the dialouge drug on for way too long. Any dialouge with Samuel L was fine, but the Bruce Willis storyline was a bit slow sometimes, and I've always felt that Harvey Keitel's "The Wolf" character was unneccessary. For some reason it always has felt out of place to me. I know I'm the minority here because most people I know disagree with me.

I love rottentomatoes. Great site to get a feel for a movie and whether you want to see it or not. The RT Top 100 is a bit weird because all of the top 100 have 100% ratings so they are sorted by number of reviews. Still, great review site.

I still haven't seen Casino, but Goodfellas is pretty dang good. Maybe not 15th greatest good, but still good. I like Pulp Fiction more that Reservoir Dogs. It is chock full of great pitch black humor, which I love. Dogs is an interesting watch, sure, but I can't bring myself to be that excited about it. It's not really essential. I wish they would make more movies out of elmore lenoards books. I love to read his stuff

Have you seen Jackie Brown? Criminally underrated IMO. Sameul L Jackson is so great, maybe the only character of his that truly scared me. Robert Deniro's performance is good too, and it's the last great movie he has been a part of. It also ties to Out of Sight with Michael Keaton's character.
QUOTE (scranton temp liz @ Nov 27 2007, 06:46 PM) *
What was the other Bret easton ellis book that was made into a movie and was really bad?

Hmmm... you could either be talking about Less Than Zero, which was made in the eighties and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Gertz, or Rules of Attraction, which stars James Vanderbeek and Shannyn Sossamon, and just so happens to be in my top 10 all-time favorite movies. I hope you're talking about Less Than Zero.

I have a few other beefs with the IMDB list. Where's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? or at least Brazil? That list is severely lacking in Gilliam-love. Shaun of the Dead makes the list, but not one Romero zombie flick? What the heck!

This movie is available for instant viewing on netflix- so I might watch it tonight! It sounds great. I love Rosalind Russell- she was great in His Girl Friday laugh.gif

Did you get the opportunity to watch Auntie Mame yet? If so, what did you think of it? Speaking of Rosalind Russell, she was marvelous in The Women, which was a fantastic & funny film.

Not too long ago I purchased the Cary Grant Screen Collections from HMV. Every night I've been watching his films in order except for Big Brown Eyes, which I watched not too long ago on TCM. Anyway, I'm currently watching Wedding Present, which has a hint of His Girl Friday in it. My favourite so far had to be Thirty Day Princess, which is an adorable love story.

After I view all five movies, I plan to watch Moulin Rouge again. I think Moulin Rogue is the perfect musical, with a fabulous blend of music, drama & romance. Some musicals focus too much on the musical numbers & others focus too much on the storyline, but Moulin Rouge perfectly combines both. It's such an extravagant, flamboyant film filled with life. Hearing Ewan perform all those musical numbers makes my heart swoon, especially when he sings Come What May, which is like the most romantic tune ever IMO with the chessy factor that most love songs have wub.gif. Him & Nicole Kidman mesh so well together. Even though I know what's going to happen at the end of the film, I still bawl like a baby. This is one of the few films that brings out major tears instead of a few little ones. But my goodness, what an amazing cast, setting, backdrop, plot & set of musical numbers & scores. This is probably the film that drew me in to Ewan & respect him even more wub.gif. Nicole was great as always. To some this film may be a bit eccentric but I like it that way. The soundtrack is simply divine as well. My favourite tunes are...

Sparkling Diamonds (I love how Nicole makes "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend" more uptempo & modern!)
Your Song (Ewan can serenade me with this song anyday wub.gif)
Elephant Love Medley
Come What May
El Tango De Roxanne

Without any doubt or question, Baz Luhrmann is a brilliant genius!

Also Terminator/Terminator 2, Princess Bride, and Hott Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead are new people to the "movies I love list." ...and so many others.

Yeah, the first two are better. T2 was my favorite movie for a few years, actually. I love it. And I saw that before T1. I like T3 because it goes with the first two. And I really like the plot of the movies. Yeah, it is sci-fi, but it is very good.

For all of you Colin Firth fans wub.gif I just got this in the mail today.

Lost Empires
(via Amazon.com) This extraordinary Masterpiece Theatre featured production based on the novel by JB Priestley, and featuring one of the last performances of Sir Laurence Olivier, takes you to the last days of Britain's innocence and the glamorous, magical world of the great music halls - which once brought entertainment to millions. In 1913, young Richard Herncastle, played by Colin Firth, escapes from a stuffy, provincial English background into the glitter and excitement of the theatre world. Funny, sad, and nostalgic, Lost Empires, follows Richard from his naïve, country upbringing to join his uncle Nick Ollanton, a famous music hall illusionist - known as the Indian Magician, Ganga Dun. The mystery of illusions, on and off the stage, is eventually shattered for Richard, whose dream of becoming a famous painter becomes sidetracked while he contends with men gone nearly insane, the lusts of countless women, and a murder that hangs over his head. As Lost Empires opens, looming on the horizon is World War I, which will destroy so much of Britain's tradition, including the great era of the Empire music hall. Soon the cinema will replace the eccentric and colorful performers whose home is the world of variety.

It is a total of 416 minutes long! I am going to start watching later tonight. I'll let you know how it goes and how it is when I finish watching.

I used to never ever ever cry when watching tv or movies until I got to college and started watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Now whenever I watch that, a sad/happy movie... or basically anything emotional, I tear up and almost lose it. It's harder to try not to cry than to cry. I gave up on that when the first movie Tom and I ever saw together in a theatre was Titanic! laugh.gif Also, when we were friends, as a group we watched Untamed Heart and I cried then. You can name just about any movie and I have cried at some part of it. My brothers used to laugh at me all the time. My one brother and I watched My Girl together and he thought I was going to have a heart attack when she was screaming "Thomas Jay! Thomas Jay!". sad01.gif I was crying so hard. It has become such a family story that I bought him that DVD last year for Christmas and before we opened gifts, we were talking about movies and he made fun of me again.

I have seen that scene once in my life and never again. I refuse to watch that movie when it is on.

EDIT: I just watched a quick video on youtube to confirm that I never want to see that again. It is confirmed.

Yeah, I watched it once a looooong time ago and remember it being sad (just like Old Yeller and Where the Red Fern Grows) and haven't brought myself to watch it again. I've definitely cried reading books... let's see... Brian's Song (a similar story to Brian Piccoli and Gayle Sayers - excellent read!), Where the Red Fern Grows... I know there are others. When I read books, I feel more involved in the story, and I'm usually by myself so I can just let it out smile.gif. I always remember watching movies and hearing my mom sniffle in the back of the room... and we'd always chuckle because her face was red and scrunched up from crying... and now it's starting to happen to me tongue.gif.

I used to never ever ever cry when watching tv or movies until I got to college. Now whenever I watch a sad/happy movie... or basically anything emotional, I tear up and almost lose it.

OMG! Me too! I was hardcore in high school, but I lost it in college! I guess I became a woman???? huh.gif

I have seen that scene once in my life and never again. I refuse to watch that movie when it is on.

EDIT: I just watched a quick video on youtube to confirm that I never want to see that again. It is confirmed.

AGREED!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot bear it!

Today I almost teared up telling someone how I got a huge speeding ticket that kept me from going on spring break. WTF? I am a baby.

Haha, yeah, it must be one of those steps of becoming a real woman. Oh man, another movie that gets me is Father of the Bride!!! I absolutely love that movie and have seen it about 50 times, but it really gets to me now... her tennis shoes with the wedding dress, playing basketball with her dad and him having flashbacks of her growing up, the dad talking to the future son-in-law to make things right, her calling her dad from the airport. Gah! I think I need a tissue sad01.gif .

I very clearly remember Thanksgiving when I was 6 and The Wizard of Oz (its on the list of tearjerkers) was on and I always cry at the end when she says goodbye to everyone. I remember walking into the bathroom, pretending not to cry, saying I had to use the bathroom. And I remember my dumba$$ father standing outside the bathroom laughing at me for crying. So then I was embarrassed for crying and I was in there for an hour before my grandmother could convince me to come out.

So, I guess I was a woman at 6? rolling.gif

Actually, the worst part, and the part I forgot until I just saw it again, was when she was screaming that he didn't have his glasses on, where were his glasses, he can't see without them. Man, that is just brutal.

I haven't brought myself to watch Superman Returns yet. I don't know if I will either... it just didn't appeal to me, so I'm glad you confirmed that I probably don't want to see it.

Broccoli is really good for you, so I hope it helps wink.gif. If you get hungry at least you have a snack nearby, right? Maybe you can eat it with dinner tonight biggrin.gif.

That movie came out when I was like 7 or so? IDK..but it has shaped my life. I'm not kidding. I want my wedding reception to be that EXACTLY even dancing to "The Way You Look Tonight." And my career choice was based off of this movie. Seriously. It's my favorite ever. (My dream house is that house).

IMDB's Top 250

I've seen about 90 of them, but I have some major objections to this list...

Me too. No objections to The Godfather at no.1. From there on, though (and I've seen over a hundred of these)...

First the ones I agree with: Schindler's List and Casablanca. 12 Angry Men, Rear Window, Goodfellas, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Psycho, Dr Strangelove, Citizen Kane (although it should be higher than 24 - I'd make it no lower than 5), North By Northwest, M (should be Top 10), Double Indemnity (my personal no. 1), Metropolis (at 67??)? No issues. The Apartment should be much higher.

BUT:
Pulp Fiction is a horrible movie. Shouldn't even be on the list. Same for Fight Club, as well as any LOTR. No Country For Old Men?? Geez, who paid to have that one put on? Ratatouille? Same thing - I loved it, but it's like saying the wine is great when the grapes have just been pressed. American Gangster?? It's a little early, don't you think... Looks to me like some studios bought their way onto this list.. Little Miss Sunshine ahead of Bonnie and Clyde, or In Cold Blood? Sorry, Steve, it was good, but not that good. What's next? License To Wed in the Top 30?

And I'm only through the first 100...but where are Stagecoach, Birth of a Nation, Intolerance? The Battleship Potemkin? The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, The Grand Illusion? Scarface (the original), White Heat? Where are they?

I'd rather see a list where no film released in the last 5 years was eligible. It lets people sit back at review a film on its merits, instead of the hype. And that includes films I like, such as Ratatouille.

The problem with favourite-anything-of-all-time lists is that they're subjective. Preferences and prejudices factor into how something 'rates'. My list and yours will be radically different, and that's fine. Something on your list may tweak my interest, and if I see it and like it, I may change my list. So this is really just a snapshot in time, taken by a bunch of faceless people, and possibly influenced by studio publicists, and of course, money. Keep that in mind when you go to the video store next time.

Now for the bottom 250....some of these are so bad they've become cult classics (The Hellcats), or are just train wrecks (Glitter). But everyone knows that Gigli is the worst film ever made, by miles.

Every month my University's student activities council puts on a midnight movie at our big theatre here in town. We get a to see the movie, eat popcorn, and drink soda for "free" (as in the thousands and thousands of dollars it is for tuition and general fees every semester cover it dry.gif ).

This month the feature is "Home Alone." WOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!! And that is where I will be tonight smile.gif.
