Walk Hard was really good and I'm not just saying that because you get to see Jenna in lingerie again. I'm serious. What? You don't believe me...cmon...

The movie moved back and forth between hilarious satire and absolute ridiculous behavior. It was much better than I expected and had me in stitches during some parts. There was a part where Dewey Cox is singing a song that was a carbon copy of a Roy Orbison song but they don't inform the audience. Nobody in the theater got the joke but me. So I was laughing hysterically and my friends were looking at me like "It's funny but not that funny". So I made them listen to a Roy Orbison song afterwards and they understood. Very good movie.

Lots of Office cameos btw...

I saw Walk Hard last friday and I thought it was hilarious! It was good since they played it straight the entire time. My husband and I are still quoting it-- of course he goes for Tim Meadows lines--and I just keep saying "We can't! We're friends!" or however it goes. smile.gif
So many cameos, I couldn't believe it. It was great.
I kept telling my hubby 'lets get tickets an hour before it starts in case they sell out.'
Well, it ended up being the two of us and an old man. ONLY THREE PEOPLE. Can you believe it?

Was Atonement good?

Atonement was awesome, and I really recommend everyone go see it (as well as read the book). Everything from the acting, cinematography, directing, casting, the adaptation from the book, was all excellent. I read the book last year and couldn't be happier with the casting and, well all of it. It's just such an enthralling story! I want to go see it again, and when it comes out you can guarantee I'll own it too! Let's just say it would be in me desert island top 5! Is that enough to convince you to see it? laugh.gif

Edit: I think there's a preview if you press on the link in my sig. There's also info on the movie.

Last night we watched "Once."
Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. I'd never hear of them either.

I liked it. Loved the music. The accents were tough, but once I got used to it I understood it. I might watch it again with the closed captioning.
That's the one about the Irish busker, right? It's way up high on my list (edit: Of movies I still need to see). The ten-best lists are coming out, and this one's on a lot of them.

Is The Diving Bell and the Butterfly really that good? Most people have it listed at No. 1 or 2. Seems kind of high for a movie that nobody saw, but that happens all the time. I don't even know that that one's about.

I'm ashamed of myself for not making it out to The Darjeeling Limited, but, heck, even matinees are $7 now (before snacks), and my local rental place has new release DVDs for a dollar for five nights. It's easy to see why I rarely go to the theater.
stlcard_25
I rented Balls of Fury and The Heartbreak Kid last night. OK movies...good for a few laughs, but far from favorites.

Not sure if I mentioned it before in here, but the new National Treasure movie is merely ok. Not as good as the original.

I don't know what the budget was on that one, but I wouldn't be surprised if 95% of it went toward Christopher Walken's salary and advertising. I like a good bad movie, but... Who am I kidding? I know I'll rent it. I just have a feeling that all of the funny parts were used in the preview..which I saw about 740 times this summer.

I love Thomas Lennon as Jim Dangle in Reno 911 so I liked his parts...I never saw the preview, or only a few times, so I don't really know what they used.

In the high-stakes world of underground table tennis...

Who told you to take the cricket out of my hand? You smash lucky cricket? You not hit flies. You hit bees. What part of "sudden death" don't you understand? She gives "wax off" a whole new meannniiiiing. Then there are the sight gags like the little girl kicking him and the black guy doing the robot before starting the game,... I'm sure I can remember more if I try.

Or you can just go here.

Okay, so I just watched it again. I was only off by a little bit.

And, yes, Thomas Lennon is pretty hilarious in everything he does.

I will see this. I actually want to see it. I just feel like I'm setting myself up for a disappointment.

Yes, the rumors are true. And if you like the trailer, you will like the movie. Just don't expect like a lot more than you see in that extensive trailer.

I watched The Bourne Ultimatum today....pretty good as action flicks go. Enjoyable, as the first three were.

I was putting away some of my old VHS tapes this afternoon and saw Neptune's Daughter in the pile. I haven't watched the movie in awhile- but it's one of my favorites. I know it's in the Esther Williams DVD collection that came out this summer- but that's one set I haven't bought yet. I found this scene on youtube. Cracks me up everytime I watch it rolling.gif

We just finished The Bourne Ultimatum as well! It was wonderful, probably the best of the 3!

Hubby and I saw Balls of Fury in the theater and we enjoyed it. We didn't have very high expectations, which might've helped, but if you're fans of movies like Dumb & Dumber, Anchorman, Dodgeball, etc. you'll most likely enjoy BoF. Christopher Walken is pretty funny in it smile.gif.

I bought hubby Live Free or Die Hard for a Christmas present and we watched it last night. We saw it in the theater, but it was just as awesome the second time around. I think it's one of my top 10 favorite movies.

We got Rush Hour 3 on netflix today and just watched it... it's pretty good smile.gif. I don't know if I can compare it to the previous 2 because I haven't seen them in a few months (or more), but it was another good action/drama/comedy. I recommend it smile.gif.

Next on netflix is the movie "Next" with Nicholas Cage. Anyone seen this? Some friends of ours said it was good, but we haven't been motivated enough to watch it yet smile.gif.

The Bourne Ultimatum is definitely the best of the three. I loooved the ending. When he jumps into the water and doesn't move. But, the music starts to play and he swims away. I'm so glad they ended it like that. Those movies are so well made. This one was my favorite, then comes Bourne Identity, then Supremacy.

I liked I Am Legend.
I'm to the point where I'm becoming obsessive over Sweeney Todd. I'm rediscovering my love for musical theatre wub.gif .

The character development in this movie was phenomenal and Helena Bonham Carter was aMAzing!!!!!!!!

I even bought the soundtrack...I might have to see it again. wub.gif

Sharpie!!! I just got back from seeing Sweeney Todd. Unfortunately I had a different reaction to Helen Bonham Carter sad.gif (Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love her and I think she was fantastic when acting. I guess I'm not too fond of her singing voice most of the time.) But I still really liked the movie/musical and I loved everyone else in it (even Depp and I was a little worried about him, too.)

I want to see Sweeney Todd too, but I don't know if I'll like it as much as other Tim Burton films cause I don't love musicals. But I mean it is Tim Burton, so I'm sure it's good.

I really want to see Atonement again (can you tell I love it?). Really GO SEE IT!!! Oh, and read the book! Ian McEwan writes so well!

Juno's on my list. It has Diapers written all over it. I eat that kind of stuff up, and the reviews are incredible.

There's about a 90% chance that I'll be seeing Sweeney Todd, or Todd Sweeney as my friend keeps calling it, on New Year's Day. I already know I'm going to like it.
prettyinpink86
Sharpie, is there a lot of blood in Sweeney Todd? I'm a *huge* fan of musicals but not so much blood & guts. I will actually get sick to the point of where I'm almost about to throw up. I'm super sqeamish. Like, I really wanna go see it but than again, I don't want to be covering my eyes throughout the film to avoid feeling sick laugh.gif. As a 36yo woman, I'll tell you that I loved "Knocked Up." Hubby & I actually saw it on our anniversary last summer & laughed our butts off. It's crass & crude at times, but I would think anyone who's had a baby (I have not) would laugh hysterically too. Must see.

I saw I Am Legend today. I did not like it. I couldn't connect to the character and there was no solid plot, IMHO. It just hobbled along in a very predictable way from start to finish. Not even the special effects could save it. It's too bad, I thought it had a lot of potential. Luckily, I had free movie passes so it didn't cost me anything except a couple hours (of which I will never get back).

Oh no, I am sad! I have been really really wanting to see ^^, but you are not the first person who has said you didn't like it. Maybe I should wait until it comes out on DVD?

Has anyone seen P.S. I Love You??? I thought it was really great! I guess it could be viewed as being a chick flick, but it's got really sweet, really sad, and funny moments. Someone told me before I went that I would cry for 75% of the movie. Honestly, I cried about 5 times, but my single friends didn't really cry at all. The rest of the time it was touching & sweet. I highly recommend it. I thought Hilary Swank did a great job. I loved that Gerard Butler guy (had never seen him before) & "Denny" from Grey's Anatomy (also had never seen) was also cute. Lisa Kudrow (of Friends fame) did a great job as one of Hilary Swank's friends, and Kathy Bates was okay. Please let me know if you've seen it! (Side note: It was dedicated in memory of a girl I went to high school with who died suddenly at age 35. Her sister helped produce the movie. There's a nice photo of her at the end before the credits.) Also, if you've seen it and know what the Irish song is that he sings in the bar, please let me know. Wow. I'm really glad I asked you Sharpie about the blood & gore factor in Sweeney Todd. Just moments after reading the spoiler box I felt slightly sick. Yeah, I know it's all fake but my imgination runs wild laugh.gif.

Yesterday I watched two films, Mr.Beans Holiday & A View to Kill. MBH didn't have a lot of dialogue but it was really funny. Naturally it wasn't as good as the first Bean film but nonetheless, I adore Mr.Bean. He cracks me up. And ooh, the actress who plays his love interest in the film (Sabine) looks eerily like Rashida Jones. I actually had to look it up on imdb to make sure it wasn't Rashida. Here's the proof. Maybe it's not the profile pic that shows it, but look at the ones from the Bean film. Creepy...

The latter film was decent. Good, but not even close to being my favourite Bond film. That title goes to Goldfinger. Anyway, I wasn't too crazy about the plot or bad guy. I always have these high expectations of extravagent ways to take over the world by the bad guy who's very eccentric. The humour was pretty good though. I still think Bond is the best action hero ever, & it helps that he's a stud too laugh.gif.

It's okay IMO, but not hilarious. I was a big Simpson's fan since early high school, but I just stopped watching it a few years ago because to me it just wasn't funny anymore and the jokes were done to death. However, I went to see the movie with a few friends that wanted to go, and I enjoyed it. It's actually got some touching moments. I'd say it's worth the rent if you're not expecting a spectacular monumentous extended episode.

^^ Thanks! Ya, I love the Simpsons but now I don't watch the new episodes, they aren't as funny anymore. My cousin went to see it with his girlfriend and they liked it and said it was funny. I guess I'll rent it sometime, I wouldn't expect it to be really great or anything. Thanks again for the tip!

Oh, yeah, finally saw the Simpsons movie. It was funny--but I thought it might be a little bit better. But Marge's video to Homer was pretty heartbreaking, I gotta say.

I have never watched The Simpsons & doubt I'll see the movie, but my BILs keep singing THIS over & over & over. So now it's stuck in my head too. And I gotta admit, pretty funny. laugh.gif

Okay, so I broke down & saw I Am Legend today. I didn't think it was HORRIBLE, but it was disturbing & made me very tense & uncomfortable. Will Smith did a good job. Am I glad I saw it? No, except I kept Mr. FNOR from buying it when it comes out on DVD. (He tends to do that if he thinks he might like something b/c he figures buying it costs almost as much as renting.) Did I enjoy it? No. I went in expecting your typical "end of the world" movie (Day After Tomorrow, Poseidon Adventure, Deep Impact, etc). It's definitely not that. I spent much of the movie w/ my fingers in my ears & eyes closed. I absolutely HATED the part when the dog died. The infected zombie people were horrid.

I rented the Nanny diaries and Benders big movie or something. The future rama cartoon.

I rented the new Halloween movie tonight. It started out pretty good, but at the end I was ready for it to be over.

I saw the Nanny Diaries last night Liz. Cute. I really liked it.

Just watched I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry--it had the juvenile humor I expected, but it did have a message, too. It was different than I thought it would be--and in a good way!

I saw P.S. I love you today( As if you can't tell by my signature). I was surprised. It was very touching. Incredibly sad, yet it was also charming and funny at parts. I was blown away by Gerard Butler's romantic comedy appeal, he really brought it to town. He was great, and I probably wouldn't have liked it as much as I did without him. There were some parts I could have done without and some awkward story lines, but overall it was a good film. Definitely a chick flick, but not a cutesy one, a solid girl movie. So much eye candy! It had a really good message, but throughout the whole movie there were certain scenes were tears were hard to keep from falling. The only thing I wished I could have seen in that movie was more GERRY BUTLER!
Worth my money!

I watched Swing Time (1936) tonight. Nothing like a Fred and Ginger movie to make a really dull and rainy day better smile.gif I'd only seen maybe 3 out of the 10 movies they made together- so it's great seeing some of these for the first time.

Swing Time and Top Hat are my favorites so far. I haven't seen Shall We Dance in a really long time- so I think I'll watch that one tomorrow night. Follow the Fleet was really cute too- I watched that one last night. I shouldn't try to pick a favorite though- all of their movies are great laugh.gif

I love Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire films wub.gif. Everytime I watch one I end up trying to dance like them with some hilarious results laugh.gif.

I tivoed The Gay Divorcee & some other Bond film with Timothy Dalton which I'll watch tonight or tomorrow. Bond is the ultimate man wub.gif.

I'm so glad you liked it! I loved it! I'm not a huge Hilary Swank fan & hadn't ever seen Gerard Butler in anything before, so I was pleasantly surprised. I had heard it was sadder than sad, but I thought it was well balanced. My absolute favorite scene was when he was singing to her in the bar. I LOVE that song but can't find it on iTunes b/c I don't know the name & it's not on the soundtrack. I want to see that scene over again since we learned after that he had met her earlier in the day on that road & gave her his jacket. When I first saw it, I thought maybe they were already dating. Anyway, I totally agree w/ you. Good movie. wub.gif Although I hate to admit it, I guess it is a chick flick.

I went to see Atonement again yesterday happy.gif wub.gif!
