I think Juno is for the younger set. There are a some older people who liked it yeah, but I think the younger crowds think it's better than what it is.

When I was watching No country for old men, I thought I was sitting through the LOTR movies laugh.gif

Finally got to rewatch O,brother where art thou ? after many years of not seeing it, George at his finest.

O-H that is a movie I thought I would hate instead non stop laugh feast!

O, Brother Where Art Thou? is a brilliant movie. It gets better every time you watch it. Also, very unexpected. Great music and George is fantastic.

Well, I am young and I disliked Juno. Mainly because of the message it has. It had a strong conservative pro-life message hidden under a liberal pro-choice indie film cover. If you look at it closely, it's very bias, and that annoys me. No offense to anyone BTW.

I don't think anybody would want to go see a movie like that where the girl actually chooses to have an abortion. Just saying...

It was very sugar-coated, but that was what it was supposed to be.

It's a sad day for fans of Peter Jackson's LOTR. Apparently The Tolkien Trust is now suing New Line for $150 Million:

QUOTE
The plaintiffs seek more than $150 million in compensatory damages, unspecified punitive damages and a court order giving the Tolkien estate the right to terminate any rights New Line may have to make films based on other works by the author, including "The Hobbit."

Ummm, I strongly disagree. A film tells a story, and a good film tells that story well and has all the other elements (cinematography, soundtrack, acting, etc.) in place and also well executed. Weather that story would be about a girl that would get an abortion would not matter the least to me, it could be well done and a brilliant film--weather or not that would be the focus or a more minor plot.

I just didn't like how bias this film portrayed the story. I understand there wouldn't be a story, in this case, if she had gotten an abortion, but her life was essentially better after having that child. Her whole pregnancy, the process of finding a family, etc. was made to look easy and painless--the pain and hardship only lightened by humor--and the abortion clinic she visited was completely unrealistic. It, and the pro-life protester whom was lightly teased, seemed only placed their to deter those whom are pro-choice from making a fuss. That and their little-indie-flick facade sure made the pill easier to swallow.

I mean, the film is made for young people. What do you think a young naive person who watches a film like that and doesn't know better is gonna think/do? This film tells young people--and anyone else for that matter--'hey, pregnancy is really not that bad! It's pretty easy and painless, actually! It won't turn your life upside down--even if your young and accidentally get pregnant--and it won't be that hard to get a really good adoption family for it either! He||, you can even check the Penny Savor!'

Now, I'm not saying that everyone who sees this movie will think this, I certainly didn't. But I know teenagers--I am one--and they really buy into this. What I am saying is that this movie seemed to me funded by pro-life lobbyists, and I would actually love to see a film that would be more open and give people/teenagers a more realistic view on the whole situation as well as show them the available options.

Also, I DO NOT want to have a debate about abortion. This is a critic/my opinion on the film and the film ONLY. So, please nobody take this the wrong way smile.gif.

I agree that we should not debate abortion. I also agree with the above. I am glad that things worked out for this particular girl, but I think there is always that risk that a naive 16 year old may see the movie and say, "Hey, I can just do with Juno did". On the other hand, that will depend on the girl. I think that those attitudes will be present before viewing the movie.

What I'm trying to say is that I see your point CHBO. But, as with all movies, every person is going to see things differently. Hopefully teenage girls will not be swayed to think that teen pregnancy will be easy, but the truth is, there are some girls who will, or who will believe that the teen father will stick around and hold you as you cry. That being said, I did think it was a nice, sweet movie. Just not entirely realistic.

I completely understand your concerns, but all I'm going to do is respond to it, especially with the bolded part, with what I said in my first post: It was very sugar-coated, but that was what it was supposed to be.

You want a more realistic view. That's great. But that wasn't this movie. I'm not telling you to like the story, or the message, all I'm saying is that this movie went and told it's story the way it wanted to. And I really do hope that people aren't naive enough to believe the situation is that easy. But, you need to find a different movie to tell that lesson.

Teenagers should already know that fiction does not equal reality.
Fancy_New_Becca
HBO, I hope I didn't offend you in anyway saying that younger people would like it more. I just thought IMO that more younger people would like it.

The whole pro life debate is just not worth it to me, cause everyone has their own personal reasons for it or against it.
This is where I think people put too much stock into movies. They are for entertainment, not to make important life choices.

confessions of a shopaholic I'm so happy this movie is coming along. I love these series of books so much better than bridget jones. I just hope they don't screw it up. But Isla Fisher is so funny and good

Yes, that's just what made me dislike it. I don't mean for it to be a serious movie, just that what I stated were some of the things that bothered me about the film. Yes, it was cute and I think the actors did a good job and it was well done, but could have improved in some ways.

I hope that people/teenagers are not that naive either, and I know the vast majority are not and know the difference between fiction and reality.

Don't worry Liz, I'm not offended at all smile.gif, your absolutely right, it is a teen flick. And ITA, I really don't want to debate the abortion, everyone has their own opinion and it tends to be a very heated subject.

Watched On the Town (1949) last night. It always puts me in a good mood- such a fun movie. It's one of my favorite musicals. They actually shot some of it on location in New York. Since they didn't do a lot of "on location" movies then you can see almost everyone looking at the camera and the actors during the opening number

I'm ashamed to say I've never watched the original Indiana Jones movies, but I might have to throw them on my Netflix and see them before we (hopefully) go to the new one.

Such as... movies about camping? If that's what you mean, there's always "Ernest Goes to Camp" and "The Great Outdoors" (kind-of about camping/vacationing). Umm... The Parent Trap (either version, but I prefer the Haley Mills one)...

If you just want movies to take camping (how will you watch them? unsure.gif ) umm... I don't know biggrin.gif.

Meatballs and Wet Hot American Summer, but you're too young for those.

Last Saturday, we ended up talking ourselves out of seeing In the Name of the King. I had read too many reviews that said it wasn't even funny-bad, just bad. Instead, we hung out at my friend's house for a little bit. While I was there, the mailman showed up with a Netflix disc. My friend already had his two, so he was pretty thrown off. It turns out that it was for somebody two blocks away...same house number but different blocks. Of course, instead of sending it right over, we had to open it to see what they rented. We always had the excuse, "I didn't realize until I opened it" to fall back on. It was Horrors of War; a WWII movie with zombies and werewolves! We watched it. It was terrible, but it was something that we probably would have rented anyway if we had known about it. My friend took the movie over to the rightful renter as soon as we finished it. He said the dude was a total character. I don't want to be rude, so I won't describe his physical features (Sloth from Goonies), but was really goofy and nice and told my buddy that he gets his movies all the time too (he just doesn't open them). We're hoping there will be more mix ups in the future. They might as well open a joint membership.

We also watched the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie and Aliens vs. Predator: Requem. ATHF was hilarious. AVP blew. It's been a long time since anybody's made a decent Alien movie.

A new full-length Star Wars movie is coming out on August 15th. It's called Clone Wars and exists in the same period as the Clone Wars cartoons. Supposedly, it's the same concept except GCI instead of, like, regular cartoons.
G_Armani
so did anyone see step up 2 was it good
Fancy_New_Becca
diapers AVP sucked hard core. I thought it was called wet hot american summer? Meatballs 2 is okay I think for jam. It's very stupid but pee wee herman is the best crazy bus driver trying to out run the kid in the electric wheel chair rolling.gif Sleep away camp is funny, but those are scary movies. There used to be a movie I liked as a kid about kids with emotional probelms who go to camp and one scene always stood out, a twin lights his brothers sercuity blanket on fire in the therapists office after the one brother with the blanket ate all the candy on the desk. The kid freaks, the blanket is going up in flames and the kid who lit the blanket on fire starts kicking and screaming all the candy is gone d@mn it d@mn it. It was funny to me.

I was reading this thing on the star wars movie too. I love star wars so I want to see it. It might be time to bust out the old light saber laugh.gif I'm a geek, but I'm a cute geek biggrin.gif
