I saw Jumper today. The special effects were amazing, but I walked out feeling like I was missing half the story. Sometimes it works when a movie leaves things unexplained, but it did not work in this instance. For instance, there is no explanation for the vendetta against Jumpers or why the two sides are fighting in the first place. I wasn't bored, but I expected more than I was given. This was a movie that had a lot of potential, but it missed the boat, IMHO.

It's such a great movie because they took Beatles songs and found the story in them and created a whole plot just from the lyrics. Also, its the kind of movie that needs to be built up and you should probably give it your full attention in order to apprieciate it.

Really? cause i thought it was even better than I expected and I had high expectations. The music is the reason it was so amazing. They did the same thing with the musical Mama Mia! (with ABBA songs), and that I loved. It's a very cool thing to do, but this isn't the first thing to do that. Even Billy Joel songs were made into a story in the musical Movin' out.
The singing isn't always amazing. Though, I did like the "Let it Be," song. That was very well done. And other parts were good, but overall it's kinda boring. I'm with Bubblewrap on this one. But, I wasn't expecting much.
You just have to understand with me, I've seen so many movies, that all I want in a movie these days is something that keeps my attention even 90% of the time. And this wasn't it.

I music was amazing in this movie. Every voice was terrific and breathtaking. All the little hints of Beatles with the names and the Janis Joplin-Sadie and Jimi Hendrix-Jojo... I agree, it is a bit long and some parts I could do without, but you have to think of it overall. The performances were great, the perception of America in that rough time, the beautiful cinematography, etc. Come on, it was better than you are letting on. "Let it Be" was one of my favorite scenes too. OH! And Bono, that was freaking cool!
I see. But, I have seen plenty of movies too for someone my age. (Over 200 of them

You're right, it should be. That's why only movies that both keep my attention and "speak to me," get my ultimate praise.

I just saw Across the Universe this weekend, and had the same reaction. For a musical with some of the greatest songs ever written, I felt like it was surprisingly lifeless and detatched. I think what it came down to for me was a lack of a story. I think the movie relied too much on people's natural attatchment to the Beatles and the songs that we all know so well, instead of creating characters and situations that could stand on their own, without the music. Of course, just my opinion.

There were some lovely things about it, and some nice imagery.

Yes! There was a lack of story.
The movie did have good moments. Like I said, I liked the "Let it Be," part and even the "Hey, Jude," song. It was in those moments that there was a character connection. I didn't really feel it through the whole thing. At times there was too much flash, too much imagery, too many artistic elements- and sometime less is more. I felt, during those times, that I was being force-fed moments of "Look at me! I'm so different, and new, and innovative, colorful, and awesome!" that very important aspects of storytelling were sacrificed. There has to be a balance.

I watched it last night on tv and what the eff!!?! So weird and definitely a Winona-type movie. I just think of it as random, like the ending, i mean, seriously? Christian Slater was creepy, but he was supposed to be, and I think he was trying to be too hardcore, I don't know, something wasn't right about that. He looked so...how do I put this? Different? No. Unusual? No. Ugly? Yes. But, at some parts he didn't look that bad. Now he looks a lot better, he grew into his face. But, the movie was kind of hilarious at parts because it was so ridiculous. I don't really know what to think about it right now...its kind of staying with me...maybe that was the intention!

I really like Mike judge and his stuff too. I wish the ending had gone alittle different but the more I watched it the more I found stuff in it I missed and laughed more. Pretty cool you picked that out as something I would like.
Elizabeth the golden age, snooze fest. The only thing worth watching is Cate Blanchet again playing the queen. Clive owen as much as I love him was the wrong man to cast against her.
